Answer: The primary aim of treatment is to correct the underlying disease process. Often correcting the underlying cause results in resolution of the lesions.
Correct hyperinsulinaemia through diet and medication
Lose weight with obesity-associated AN
Excise or treat underlying tumor
Stop offending medicines in drug-induced AN
In hereditary AN, lesions tend to enlarge gradually before stabilizing and/or regressing on their own.
There is no specific treatment for AN. Treatments considered are used primarily to improve cosmetic appearance and include topical retinoids, dermabrasion and laser therapy.
Question: Hello everybody, i was just wondering if Acanthosis Nigricans is curable? I am planning on losing 72 pounds....cause i am very fat...but if umm i lose all this weight will my Acanthosis Nigricans take off?
Answer: Losing weight by eating healthy should help reduce the circulating insulin and decrease it quite a bit..
You will have to eat a balanced diet, whatever you are eating now is causing you to have too much circulating insulin..
If it still continues when you have lost the weight, then you will want to have another check up done to check for other causes.
If there's nothing else wrong, your doctor can prescribe salicylic acid creams to remove the outer layers of skin to reduce the appearance of it..
Question: is it possible to have acanthosis nigricans without having diabetes? acanthosis nigricans is a disease where you get dark patches on your skin (like the neck and under arms).
is it possible to have acanthosis nigricans without having diabetes?
Answer: Type I is benign and hereditary - not associated with any endocrine disorder. Type II is benign and is associated with diabetes mellitus, acromegaly, cushing's disease, corticosteroid use (eg, prednisone), oral contraceptive (birth control pill) use, addison's disease, hypothyroidism. Type III is due to obesity. Type IV is caused by high doses of nicotinic acid. Type V is malignant and is a paraneoplastic disease secondary to adenocarcinoma or lymphoma.
Question: Does acanthosis nigricans fade if you lose weight? I have lost about 40 pounds now. I am currently 193 lbs. I have dark brown spots on my elbows, knees, and around my neck. I am very sure that it is acanthosis nigricans. DOes anyone know if this will fade if I continue to lose weight. My doctor said I am prediabetic. I have been exercising regularly and eating a diet low in sugar and starches. Any help is appreciated.
Answer: What makes you sure you have Acanthosis nigricans? Were you diagnosed by a dr? It usually causes velvety, light-brown-to-black, markings usually on the neck, under the arms or in the groin. Acanthosis nigricans is most often associated with obesity.
Eating too much of the wrong foods, especially starches and sugars, can cause insulin resistance. This will result in elevated insulin levels. Most patients with acanthosis nigricans have a higher insulin level than those of the same weight without acanthosis nigricans. Elevated levels of insulin in most cases probably cause acanthosis nigricans. The elevated insulin levels in the body activates insulin receptors in the skin, forcing it to grow abnormally.
Reducing the circulating insulin by dieting or medication can lead to improvement of the skin problem.
All the best
Question: Is it bad to eat high sugar fruits if you have acanthosis nigricans? Is it wrong or unhealthy to eat fruits high in sugar such as bananas if u have acanthosis nigricans
Answer: Depends, if you have this disorder due to insulin resistance than it might be a little unhealthy. If you're insulin resistant, you're going to want to stay away from sugars and carbs since your body can't break them down as easily due to your insulin; and then it will cause high ketone levels and secrete itself through your urine. So if you urinate frequently, that is a sign. So be careful.
Question: What foods should I eat to fight insulin resistance?...I think I have Acanthosis Nigricans? all online sources are saying insulin resistance is caused by too many sugary foods, and such....
can someone give me an idea of what I can eat on a day to day basis to stop the acanthosis nigricans?
Answer: If you have Acanthosis Nigricans you need to get tested for diabetes. Type 2 can be symptomless for years, until it damages your body so much that the complications start.
Ask your doctor to do an HbA1c test, and a Glucose Tolerance Test too.
In the meantime, cut back on sugar and refined flour products. Try the South Beach diet, its low carb and should help, but you still need to get tested because diabetes and pre-diabetes are not something you can ignore or treat on your own.

Here's are a few paragraphs from Bharat Savur's article on The Hindu Business Online
..."When Dr Karsch examined the swished milk-white oil under a microscope with 600 magnification, he saw live organisms swimming in it. It's poisonous, so never swallow it, he warns. These poisons are bacteria-embryos, which, if not eliminated, cause diseases. Apparently, Dr Karsch cured his own chronic blood disease and 15-year-old arthritis.
The first sign of improvement is in the teeth-they become firm and white, he says. Other healing indications: fresh, relaxed feeling on waking up, disappearing dark pouches below the eyes, anew appetite and energy, better memory and deep sleep.
Dr Karsch swears by the mouth oil-wash for anything from organ-disorders, skin-diseases, menstrual problems, paralysis to every ache and it is in the human anatomy. You can swish even when you have fever, he says, adding, it takes anything from two days to a year to cure a disease.
And if these claims sound exaggerated, he told a conference of Ukrainian cancer specialists, try out the process yourself.
Interestingly, Ayurveda advises oil swishing "to purify the taste-buds and the entire system", as explained by Dr Deepak Chopra in Perfect Health.
According to this life science, the tongue is mapped by organ-locations — that is, each section of the tongue is connected to the kidneys, lungs, spleen, liver, heart, pancreas, small intestines, stomach, colon, and spine.
Thus, an oil-mouth-massage soothes and stimulates the key meridians where taste meets organ. Simultaneously, as in any skin-massage, the inner skin and lining of the mouth, palate and tongue become warm and supple and the lubrication prevents dryness (the vatic effect).
In modern dietetics too, dryness is discussed.
For example, lack of Vitamin A (retinal) causes the outer lining of the eyeball to dry and wrinkle, and affects vision.
And as any dietician would tell you, all oils contain 960 micrograms of vitamin A per 10 gm (the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A per adult is 600 micrograms). So, it's possible that oil gargling helps in reaching the required retinal to the eyeballs and keeps them elastic and smooth.
Likewise, the Ayurvedic `purification of taste-buds' also has its equivalent in dietetics as `antioxidants'. Oxidation literally means `the putrefaction of body-tissues'.
And oil-soluble vitamins, A, C, D, and E are antioxidants that protect and prevent the decaying process and help maintain the integral functioning of cell membranes. That's why many people are ingesting vitamin E pills to stem `aging' (oxidation). "
