Answer: 6 weeks sounds reasonable. You might be able to go back after 4 weeks if you have a desk job.

Question: Does anyone know what happens to the ovary when a dermoid cyst is left there? Does the cyst destroy the ovary? The doctor tells me I have a dermoid cyst on my one ovary (already had my other ovary and tube removed with a previous dermoid cyst as they were torsed and infarcted and "not viable"). I'm inclined to leave it alone as I'm worried about the procedure itself and what that might do. Thank you very much. You have both given me a lot to think about.

Answer: You have unfortunately seen one of the consequences of leaving a dermoid cyst unresected resulting in the loss of one tube and ovary. Torsion and infarction can occur in your remaining ovary and tube. The cyst, if small enough can be removed leaving the rest of the ovary intact. Have it done before you lose the other ovary. Otherwise I suggest you freeze some eggs if you want to have children.

Question: Is it safe to have sex if you have a dermoid ovarian cyst? I have a dermoid cyst that I am going to soon have removed. Fortunately, it is benign. Answer: no, you will not rupture the cyst with sex, use protection.

Answer: If you ovulate and the egg makes it to the fallopian tube, then you can become pregnant. The endometriosis reduces the chance, but does not eliminate it. Do not read too much into this. Continue to seek medical advice from professionals. Don't get your hopes up or let down without more information. Possibility and likelihood are not the same. Do not confuse the two with each other.

Answer: I have never had cyst or anything of that nature But I do know that by getting a complete Hysterectomy you do have other option. That is a Big Surgery. After you will have to take hormones for the rest of your life. that's a huge thing also. Since it might cause heart attack or stroke, cancer, many things. You need those Ovaries. Tell your Doctor that if all possible you would like to keep your ovaries and if he thinks you need a Complete Hysterectomy Then by all means get a second oppion, maybe even a third or forth opinion. It is your body. Sometimes them Doctor's might be to quick to say you need a Complete Hysterectomy, especially if you have insurance they can Milk. That is their Bread and Butter. Question: Will the removal of my ovarian dermoid cyst make my weight or wasitline decrease? I'm having surgery to remove a 21cm x 11cm (8'' x 5") dermoid cyst on my right ovary. To me this seems like a fairly large sized piece of mass they will be removing and my question was whether this procedure was going to make my weight or more importantly my waistline smaller ... I have a wedding dress which has already been fitted and was seeing if I needed to schedule another fitting.

Answer: Good lord, woman! I got a dermoid at the age of 13 and dropped to the floor after school one day, throwing up and moaning. I had to get a Stat surgery to remove it, and it was only 9 cm. How your ovary hasn't burst is a miracle, and I wish you a good recovery! You will most definitely lose weight. Not only is it likely the equivalent of giving birth to a baby (that cyst is huge!), but the recovery from surgery will be stressful on your body, and you won't be eating much while recovering. I remember returning to school and getting rumors about being anorexic. I would schedule another fitting about 2 months after surgery. That was about when I could walk like a normal person. Question: I have a spinal dermoid cyst and I need help? I have had 5 opertations to drain the cyst in my spine over the last 18 years. The last operation was 3 years ago, however since that operation the cyst is refilling and after being admitted to hospital when the pain got so bad they did an aspiration to remove the blood in the cyst that must have been caused by a bleed. The specialist thought the bleeding would stop and the cyst would stop refilling. However, the problem is still going on and a radiologist is giving me aspirations ever 4 to 6 weeks. The pain is really getting to me and I can only take so many ibrobrufen! I need to decide on next steps and could do with some advice and particularly specialist that you would recommend.
