Question: Insect Repellents? My parents have these insect repellents in their home and it plugs into an outlet and they glow in the dark, does anyone know where I could find them? My parents got them in Home Depot but I can't find them there. Any help is appreciated!!!
Ok, so if I go to Lowe's where can I find them? Do they have a name?
Answer: Hey Jelly- You don't necessarily have to go to a "Home Improvement" store I've gotten them at Target and they have worked wonders. I've also seen them in Walmart. Good luck getting rid of those critters!
Question: What do you look for in Insect Repellents for your kids? I would like to inquire what do you look for in buying insect repellents for your kids. We are trying to develop a new product and your inputs will be appreciated!
Answer: something that doesn't stink, and that you don't have to wash off when you get inside, considering my kids sometimes fall asleep before they get a chance for a bath if we have a late night. (like watching fireworks)
Question: What type of herbs are useful insect repellents for househould sure.? Mites, ticks, fleas, spiders. With it being summer and two cats, the bugs can get inside rather easily. I heard Rosemary can repel fleas. Any help offered is appreciated. No chemical suggestions please.
Answer: Rosemary, pine, lavender, pennyroyal, mints, onions, garlic, chives, rue, wormwood and many other herbs with a high oil content can effectively help repel a variety of insects.
Bergamot oil and tansy both repel ants.
You can make a dried mix of rosemary, mint, pennyroyal and lavender to stuff into dog or cat beds to help repel fleas. This also helps deodorize their beds and limit the doggie odor.
Pennyroyal and anything from the onion and chive family can be crushed and used as an insect repellent on people as well - just don't allow anyone who is pregnant to handle pennyroyal, as it may induce early labor - it's potent stuff.
Added bonus - these herbs will make your house smell really nice. You can even crush the dried herbs, sprinkle them on the carpet before you vacuum - room deodorizer plus flea repellent in one.
Question: Are there any "safe" insect repellents for infants? I have a 5 month old, 4th of July festivities are coming up which means a lot of out door activities. Any suggestions on baby safe insect repellent?
Answer: Our peditrician told us to look for one with the lowest concentration of DEET. Problem is then it doesn't really work! If you are going to have the baby in a stroller/car seat or the like, you can get a mesh/net covering at toys-r-us or babies-r-us that will go over it to protect the baby. I got the one big enough to go over a graco travel system and it works great to keep pests away from the baby.
Question: Are there any health risk in using insect repellents daily? I live in Georgia and in the spring, summer and fall seasons the mosquitos, ticks, fleas, etc.....are terrible not to mention they carry horrible risks of disease when they bite. I have to use a repellent almost daily in order to be outside at all or these blood sucking pests seem to make my arms legs, face, wherever the "buffet". I cant help but wonder what if any the risks and/or dangers to my health may be in using these repellents so frequently .
Answer: Well I'm sure you have discovered by now you are not allergic to the stuff, but there are other risks involved. I know the ones with DET work better, but if you are going to be using it every day you might want to get one with a low percentage of DET or not at all. We are not even sure what kind of long range side effects that stuff has yet. There are also patches for your clothing and little wrist bands you can try, but I have never found them to be as effective for a heavily infested area such as GA. However, if you are just running outside to get the mail try putting on a couple of those little arm bracelets or something so maybe you can skip a day of bug spray. Also, go look on the website of the particular spray you use and see if there are any warnings against long term use. It seems to be the better they are at preventing bug bites the more harmful they are for you. Good luck.
Question: What are some good, natural, and organic insect repellents for the garden? Preferably stuff that I can make at home.
Answer: For aphids, you can mix a tiny bit of dish soap in water and spray it on them. For many insects, a strong spray of water from your hose will knock them off as well.
I use white vinegar and water to kill ants, and I assume it would repel them if it didn't evaporate.
Search for "companion planting" on the web and you'll find other PLANTS you can plant nearby to repel insects, like marigolds. I also plant radishes nearby other veggies because some insects like them much better and will eat them and leave the other veggies alone. You can also plant beneficial plants to encourage a pest's predator to hang out near your plants (again, search "companion planting").

Question: What are the top ten Insect Repellents? Please can some one tell me the BEST Repellents to use? I Hvae no idea which to go for?
What about these new Bands?
Any help apprecieated! Thanks!
Answer: I agree with the DEET thing, but not the 80%. Well, maybe in the USA, but one of my friends went on a safari and had a bottle of 99%. But that is pretty much like cancer in a bottle. it will repel you too; not just the bugs. :-)
if you are mainly worried about the kind that suck your blood or sting you, then just eat a lot of garlic. if you don't like garlic then take garlic pills. also it a natural diet, mostly veggies, and meat that is grilled or fried in olive oil or vinegar or something. This works amazingly well. I went on my first camping trip of 2007 in early june and got eaten alive. I had like 15 mosi bites on just my face. I went back to the same spot for a week about 2.5 months later, after changing my diet, and got 1 bite the whole week.
good luck.
