Question: What kindof cases/disorders would one expect to find on a Medical Endocrinology ward? I know it is related to hormones, and there seems to be a varying amount of related disorders - from diabetes to thyroid to cancer. Are there any specific disorders in relation to Medical Endocrinology (in the UK)?

Answer: Here are some examples: patients with pancreatitis, patients in diabetic coma, sent up by the ER, patients in severe hyperglycemia sent up by the ER, patients with Addisons disease (adrenal trouble), patients with severe anaphylactic reactions that has not been properly diagnosed, young girls with severe abdominal pains who tell you when you ask whether they have had sex : "No doctor I am not married!" with an innocent smile and are about to loose a 6 week embryo,patients with acute neurotoxin infections from seafood, and other sources, patients with chronic heavy metal infections: lead, arsenic , benzene compounds, patients with wrongly diagnosed epileptic seizures.....you want more, we have seen them all mate.

Question: What should a Medical Assistant know really well if getting a job in Endocrinology? I have a work interview as a medical Assistant for a Endocrinology specialist and was wondering what the Doctor might question me on. Any key words that I should study to refresh my memory would really help. Okay I guess this wasn't that obvious so I be clear. I am a well educated CMA who knows exactly where his boundries are. I just have neve worked or known anyone who has worked in the endocrinology field so I was hoping for some duties, terms etc. that might be used on a daily basis that wouldnt be in a general practitionors office.

Question: Endocrinology? Since I was about 14 I started getting lumps in my nipples. As I grew older it turned into more of like a button stuffed in there. I am pretty sure it is a hormonal problem but now that it is winter and I have been too busy with work to get any exercise I think I am starting to grow full on boobs. I think it is not that atypical to have this happen as you are going through puberty but I was wondering if I should be concerned that it has gone on so long, or if there was anything I could do other than getting off my lazy bum and working out.

Question: Is the field of reproductive endocrinology expected to see continued growth in the future? Or will it decline? I'm thinking about medical specialties and this field seems really interesting as well as timely to me since many women are putting off having children due to their careers and then later on have difficulty. This is where the RE comes in. However will this field be as in demand in coming years? I dont want to go into a field that requires so many years of study only to find when I come out that people dont need my services anymore.

My teacher just informed us yesterday that all of our sources must be peer reviewed and that we now need around twenty sources instead of the previously assigned five. Question: Hi, What hapens when you go to the Endocrinology ward at a hospital? Ive been refered by my Dr to this ward with reference to my being over tired lately! I know its to do with hormones! Just wondered what the crack was? Thanks

Answer: well you already know so much its the study of the endocrine system , that can involve hormones , i have seen an endocrinologist at hospital , though i was simply an outpatient and it was all very simple initially it was taking a basic case study , back ground to your probs etc for me at least he instigated a few tests , and further treatment depended on the results , those test by the way though they had a few different names basically were in the form of blood tests. Im sure there are many diferent types of treatment and stuf , but i hope that sheds a little light on the situation.

Question: Is this process to acquire a medical degree in endocrinology correct? uhm do i go to a UC to get a masters and then transfer to a med school? any other process?

Answer: I am currently enrolled at Loyola University Chicago, majoring in Biochemistry. The way I understand the process is that you must first complete four years of college, go to medical school, complete your residency and internship, and then you must complete a fellowship under an endocrinologist.

Question: How many years does it take of schooling to become a pediatric endocrinology and how much do they make?

Answer: What is that? You mean an endocrinologist specializing in children? A pediatrician doing some endocrinology (don't believe it goes this way). I assume you know someone doing what you want to be. Why don't you just ask them? It's hard to give you an answer when I'm not sure you even know exactly what it is you want to be.

Question: In endocrinology, can receptor cells be damaged by the hormone that activates them?

Answer: Damaged, in a sense, yes. It is a common feature for receptors to be internalized upon activation which often leads to their degradation through a process called ubiquination. Parathyroid hormone activation of Parathyroid Hormone receptor (PTH/PTHr) is an excellent example of this. Once PTH binds to it's receptor, the receptor is internalized and degraded. This is a feedback mechanism that prevents over stimulation by PTH.

Question: What medical schools specialize in endocrinology?

Answer: Nobody specializes in medical school. We all get pretty much the same education, except for a few clinical electives. Endocrinology is a subspecialty of internal medicine. You would have to complete three years of internal medicine, and then do a fellowship in endocrinology.

Question: What kind of career could I get in endocrinology? I'm looking into taking classes, and I'm really interested in endocrinology, specifically hormones that deal with the transgendered. Are there any other options besides a straight up M.D.? And what classes would I have to take?

Answer: PhD, PharmD, Lab tech, Psychologist.

Question: Which programs offer the best Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility Fellowships? Which programs offer the best Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility Fellowships? How do I find a ranking? Or which ones carry the best reputations? Any comments or opinions?

Answer: Try looking at zoology, biology, or medicine programs at different schools. Most schools don't categorize down as far as reproduction, this topic can just be found within a bigger category.

Question: would endocrinology lbe able ot offer an opinion on whether testosterone injections would increase my libido?

Answer: Testosterone is not likely to increase your libido, unless you are diagnosed with a difficiency. Adding more when you already have enough natural production may help you gain muscle mass; but it may also reduce the size of your testicles, and cause you to go into unexplained rages. This is a powerful hormone, and should only be administered under the guidance and monitoring of a physician.

Answer: I have no idea how long it would take. But if you're interested in that, I suggest you do it. There are not enough pediatric endocrinologists to go around ... much less good ones.

Question: endocrinology does anyone know what it means couse i have applying more to health professional? i am 13 years old and if you know what endocrinology means then you will kow that it is to do with hormones i only has a 2 inch penis because of my homones can anyone help (applying to health professioals) my doctor said that it will ever grow that ll my hormones have matured fully except the endocrinology ones i was never born with them

Answer: you are 13. give your hormones some time to work you haven't sexually matured yet - this takes time - can you grow a beard?
