Question: What causes spondylosis in younger adults? I am 36 and have severe degenerative spondylosis in my neck with reversal of the normal curve. The Dr.s have told me that this is common in older people, and gets worse as we age, but nobody can tell me why it is like this with me. It causes severe muscle spasms almost every day and I already had to have one of the discs taken out and fused because it was compressing my spinal cord so bad my arms were affected. I've never been in an accident or had any traumatic injury. Anyone know what would cause this and if there is anything I can do about it?
Answer: Spondylosis is spinal arthritis~I have it, too, and am in sympathy with all the awful sysmptoms~This site will give you a lot of helpful info! My prayers are with you(((hugs)))
Go to SPONDYLOSIS on a search engine, like GOOGLE, and click on Spondylosis Osteoarthritis, and find out everything you want to know......
Question: How can I cure cervical spondylosis or what drugs can reduce the pain in my right shoulder? I have terrible pain in my right shoulder and it was diagnoised that I have cervical spondylosis.
Answer: I have cervical spondylosis and have tried many homeopathic remedies. What has worked for me the best is
1. acupuncture
2. steroid injections
3. regular massage.
I have it pretty severe and have it in 5 of my 7 vertebrea as well as radiopathy (not sure if that is the right word). herniated disks, bulging disks and 2 vertibra with virtually no spinal fluid getting around the spine.
I had what is called an epidoral tranferaminal which are basically steriods injected directly into the spinal chord areas. This has given me the longest relieve - 4-5 months without meds. but it is very painful
quick question - do you get ringing in the ears? vertigo?
ps - i have tried the goji juice - it did not help.
Question: Can a cortisone injection be given in the neck for spondylosis which is causing tingling in the fingers? I have spondylosis in my neck in about 4 discs and am currently experiencing a tingling and lack of sensation in my thumb, index and sometimes middle finger. I also have pain gathering in my elbow at times, as well as a loss of sensation as well as pain in my forearm. The doctors have only said anti inflammatories and heat to relieve the pain. The pain I can handle, the sensation in my fingers is always there and very annoying.
Answer: Yes it can. It took two separate treatments but it worked. No more headaches, thank God. Your symptoms sound exactly like mine did.
Question: What kind of pillows should be used by people suffering from cervical spondylosis? I am suffering from cervical spondylosis since last 6 years and want to know what kind of a pillow would be advisable.
Answer: Sleep on a firm mattress. Use a feather, polyester or special neck "cervical pillow". Use a thinner pillow or none at all if you have pain when you wake up.
Question: my dog has severe spondylosis and is in a lot of pain? our specialist has put him on metacam, how long before he improves?? the specialist tells us to bear with it but i hate to see our dog in pain and would tather have him put to sleep than suffer any more. does amyone have any experience with metacam and spondylosis?
he's only been on metacam 4 days and i think he,s slightly better but not much. he was only 100% diganosed 3 weeks ago and only been in pain about 6 weeks
had an mri scan done today, our dog ahs a tumour as well as spondylosis, not 100% sure yet but i feel he will have to be put to sleep
Answer: Pain management would be top priority until you find out and try different treatments. Then your dog and you wouldn't have to deal with the suffering of the pain issue. As far as a future decision to put him to sleep and you are not quite sure about this decsion, I would suggest getting a 2nd opinion from another vet. If both are in agreement, you will be at more at peace if you choose to take their advice and let him go.
I hope that he will improve and that you won't have to decide! Good luck.
Question: What is the ground on which I can legally remove an employee suffering Cervical Spondylosis? Here is this guy, an employee in my Chemicals manufacturing plant for about 14 years. I realized that he suffers cervical spondylosis since August, 2008. He is a non performer and I am sure I want to remove him from employment. He has been advised light nature of work, whereas I do not wish to assign any light work to him, and moreover I do not think there is any light work at all.
Please assist.
Answer: There is the problem, you "do not want to give him light duty" or "there is none available" if it is the latter he may be let go legally.
Be care full how you are wording things as you will open yourself up for a law suit.
Question: what are the exercises to avoid in a fitness center for a person cured from cervical spondylosis? I had a problem of cervical spondylosis which was cured one year ago. I wish to join a fitness centre to improve my physical condition. What are the exercises that I avoid in a fitness center. Shall I work with low weights? Please guide me.
Thankfully, for the last one year I do not have pain. When I had pain I could not rotate my hands properly.
Answer: You want to avoid any excercise that will require you to flex your neck forward forcifully or abruptly. I would not recommend tossing a set of barbells over your neck and to squats or do too many sit ups unless you can keep your neck straight or in a neutral position. Also, if you do any exercise that brings on your neck pain, do not continue.
Question: Has anyone ever heard of lumbar or thoracic spondylosis? I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my early 20s. I have had lower back pain on and off for years but last year it became severe and chronic. I am now 43. I have been on disabilty and on meds but nothing seems to help. Physical therapy seemed to make it worse. Yesterday I was told I have lumbar and thoracic spondylosis and bone spurs, and they have refered me for spinal injections. I'm wondering if anyone else has been thru this? Did it help at all? Will I ever be able to return to work or a normal lifestyle??? I try to stay active but I hurt so bad and often have numbness and weakness in my legs. I am so discouraged. If anyone knows anything about this please tell me what you know. Thanks.
Answer: OMG, I have something very very close.. I am in pain all the time, done the meds, the shots and therapy i am at my last resort which is FUSION..
I have had 3 shots in my back..What i have is a budgled disk and spongylostheis L4-L5, pain goes down my left leg , to my hip all the way to my foot.. horrible pain...
I don't know what kind of spinal injections you are gonna have but I had epidural, and nerve block shots down. They are both ONLY temporary , the first one I had done they never botherd to numb the area at all, i felt the needle go all the way in. Wanted to die. That one was a JOKE! I felt okay for a week, if that.. the second one was down a little better, but didn't really do much either, pain was gone for about maybe 2-3 wks.. that one didnt hurt as bad as the one before...
the last one... was what they called a nerve block shot and more was involved..I ended up with a migraine for a week.. i was miserable.. BUT it did make me feel alot better for longer time..... it was great... my leg didn't hurt, etc etc... BUT soon after a month maybe more, the pain came back and it was worse then B4!! Maybe its cuz when i start to feel better I start to do things i should not. I am only 31 been dealing with this for 2.5 years.. been in pain everyday... find out what kind of shot you are gonna have etc ..
after you have the shot you can not drive yourself home. you have to sit and try please try not to move around to much.. or you could make yourself very sick! best of luck to you!!!
Question: What is moderate spondylosis, and can it cause nerve pain in the feet? I'm still trying to come up with answers for my burning, tingling, painful feet, the MRI says no definite nerve root effacement is identified. Does this mean the foot thing is something totally diffrent, do you think i need a podiatrist, rather then a neurologist?
Answer: A spondylosis can cause nerve pain in the feet. Your pain may be compression on the spinal cord itself. Degenerative changes such as that with spondylosis can cause a spinal stenosis that can also cause nerve pain. What things make your foot symptoms worse and what makes it better? Feel free to e-mail me and we can get a better idea what type of doctor you should be seeing.

Answer: Correct posture and physiotherapy plus medically recommended medicines. Surgery, is normally NOT advised, for most cases of spondilitis, unless it is a very, very special case, which can be "assuredly" cured by surgery. One "DOES NOT," generally, come across such exceptional cases...
Question: Can Spondylosis in a cat cause a loss of bladder control? My kitty has spondylosis, he uses the litter box however when he sleeps, or even sits there is often a little puddle there when he gets up? He acts fine otherwise, any ideas. He is going to the vet tomorrow. I just want to know what to expect as far as what they will do. I have read that steroids can help.
Answer: I know it can be an issue in Human Spinal Spondylosis in the lumbar region, and I am quite certain the same would apply for the same conditin in felines.
Good Luck! I know your kitty is uncomfortable.

Question: I have been diagnosed with spondylosis, slip disc and a possible trapped nerve in my neck? I would like to ask if anyone who is suffering from the same kind of thing has ever experienced a numb hollow feeling in either the ears or the face as that is what I am suffering from now and I am really concerned. I am under the hospital at the moment and I am waiting for an MRI.
Answer: More then likely it is a trapped nerve is you have numbness, i know what you are feeling!
Going thru the same thing. The numbness by the ear is the weirdest, and when I lie on my side at night -waking up with a numb face can be scary.
, They could give you a shot in the neck with cortisone. I am still waiting treatment- so I will be anxiously waiting to see what they say.
BTW ask at the desk for them to fax you a report-- this way you have a copy and have it on hand. They will ask you to sign a release.
Would you be willing to share/ compare notes and treatments = I hope so, msg me ok

Question: my son is 18 and has spondylosis and scoliosis with a 40 degree curvature. last year the curvature was 32 but? my son just went back to the doc. for his scoliosis and it has came from 32 to 40 degree curvature in 8 months. doc. says he needs surgery know to stop the progression . is this so and is it a bad surgery and will it help?
Answer: In 1984, I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 12 during one of those junior high screenings. I wore a Wilmington brace from under my arms to just over my hips for 10 mo., then had surgery shortly before I turned 14 (1985). They prefer that you have had your period for two years before they do it to let you grow as much as you can, but my curve was getting too severe (high 50s if I remember right). My top curve was fused using stainless steel Harrington rods and bone chips from my hip. I had to go back into a brace about a year after my surgery for 10 mos. because my bottom curve was not completely stabilized.
There are risks with every surgery, even minor procedures (I'm an OR nurse now).
My pain control was great. Only time I needed something extra was when I woke up and tried to sit up, I was half-asleep still and forgot to do it carefully.
Someone with more recent experience might be better to ask about the physical therapy. The only PT I did after surgery was minimal, basically just making sure you were able to walk steady...but this was 1985 when they used to keep you on bed rest for a week and then put you in a body cast...we don't do that any more.
I'm as normally functioning as anyone (are any of us really "normal"?). I never got off schedule with school. Graduated college at 20 and have been an OR nurse for 16 years, one of the most physically demanding areas of nursing (lots of lifting and lots of standing in one place for long periods). I've had 2 children without difficulty (didn't even use an epidural). I love to travel (I don't set off metal detectors), yoga (though the fusion prevents some positions), and SCUBA dive. I can pretty much do anything I want...but don't tell my husband I use the scoliosis to get out of vacuuming :)
Is he being treated at a Shriner’s Hospital/Clinic by your doctor? As a former patient and now a healthcare professional, I think it's absolutely the best place for scoliosis patients under 18! If you are, ask the docs/nurses if they can arrange for you to visit/talk with other patients or people who will be involved in your care. Other places may do this too, but I think Shriner’s goes above and beyond for their patients.
Question: Please can anyone tell me the symptoms of cervical spondylosis and if there is any cure? I have been given that as a result of tests but with no help as to what course the disease is likely to take Thank you Babs
Answer: Stiff neck, most often one of the very first signs. Neck stiffness tends to grow progressively worse over time.
Radiating pain to the bottom of the skull and/or to the shoulder and down the arm. This radiating pain may seem like a stabbing or a burning, or it might present itself as a dull ache. Along with pain, cervical spondylosis can be accompanied by parathesias and muscle weakness in the neck, shoulders, arms and hands, and a syndrome called “numb, clumsy hands”. In cases of cervical spondylosis with myelopathy, the legs may be affected, leading to an interruption of stability while walking. Loss of balance might also occur. When myelopathy is present, incontinence may become a problem. Muscle wasting also accompanies cervical spondylosis with myelopathy.
Unfortunately, cervical spondylosis is a condition that gradually gets worse. In very advanced cases of this condition, often mobility can only be achieved with a cane or walker.
