Question: tardive dystonia / dyskinsia diagnosis? I have suspected for a while that I have developed TD. I go to a Neuroligist regularly for seizure maintenance and have spoken with him about this. He seems very hesitant to diagnose me, but he does acknowledge that I have many of the symptoms. He is prescribing me restless leg syndrome medicications, but they are not helping. I want him to diagnose me on my chart, not just in speaking. What do I need to say to him to make a final diagnosis? I need him to do this so that the RLS medication would be considered maintenance medication for my insurance. Right now I have to pay full price as my insurance will not cover non-maintenance drugs. Any help is appreciated.
Answer: Why don't you ask your neurologist why he is hesitant about diagnosing you? If you don't agree with his reasoning and he is still not diagnosing you, you could tell him that you want a second opinion. That should be your right. He shouldn't be able to deny you that. If he refuses, you can just find another neurologist on your own. If you have more than one neurologist not wanting to diagnose you though, maybe you could be wrong? After all, they are the experts. Medication is never 100% effective either.
Question: Does anyone know what this could be? Late Saturday night, a friend starting acting weird. She was having movement disorders and said that she could not control them. Sunday was the same way. Just constantly moving and not being able to control arms from moving. I also noticed that she was exaggerating her speech to say words and has become very talkative. I have checked the net and these symptoms are seen in a variety of disorders like Tardive Dystonia, Wilson's Disease, Basilar Artery migraines etc.
I don't think she had TIA or stroke because she did not exhibit facial paralysis or pain on the appropriate side. I also checked the side effects of her meds. Has anyone every experienced this or know someone who has. I think she should see a doctor but she has been through so much this year already, and may decline. I even thought about a nervous breakdown.
Answer: For three months I was having uncontrollable twitches and electrical sensations all over my body. I went to the doctor he said come back if it got worse. I went back 6 times! He never did anything, than one Saturday it got really bad I told my husband I was going to go crazy, 1 hour later I had a Grand Mal seizure! I had been really feeling electrical problems and the twitches were warning me. a year later we are still trying to find out what is wrong. Please don't leave her alone or let her drive. I was not breathing and had to be given CPR, if I was alone I probably would have died.
Question: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy--what to expect? I have SEVERE Tourette's, I screech, scream, hit myself (slapping and punching) have fits where I fall on the floor and flail around uncontrollably, I curse loudly, sometimes I can't talk except for gibberish, I have compulsions to drool or go limp, I squat every couple steps unless I hop on one foot instead of walk, I spit, and weirdly, my voice (I am southern, my family talks kind of southern) has gotten this sort of english accent, and I can't make my voice go back to what it was before it changed. I've taken all the drugs they use for Tourette's, but they caused reactions including dystonia and tardive dyskenesia, so I can't take them any more. Furthermore, none of them even worked. Now we have finally gotten an appointment with a specialty clinic that works to treat OCD and Tourette's. They do cognitive behavioral therapy, and the appointment is in a few days. I'm very excited--this is one of our last chances at getting rid of my many tics. What is the therapy like? Has anyone heard of other (drug) treatments for Tourette's? What do they do in the therapy? If it's basically learning to stop ticking, I don't see how it could possibly work... What do they do, how do they do it? I am so excited, and of course, nervous. So any treatments you've heard of for Tourette's, advice is welcome.
Answer: i am so sorry for u, and i don't know sadly, but, i might have this myself, so we will hang in there together!
Question: Why do Psychiatrist prescribe medicine to block the dopamine receptors in your brain think it is safe? "Dopamine has many functions in the brain, including important roles in behavior and cognition, motor activity, motivation and reward, inhibition of prolactin production (involved in lactation), sleep, mood, attention, and learning. "
Why do Psychiatrist think prescribing medicine that blocks these receptors safe for you?
Patients that lack dopamine include people with Parkinsons.
These drugs cause dystonia, and Tardive dyskinesia.
Why do Psychiatrist prescribe these medicines to their patients? Why are these drugs legal?
I was diagnosed Bipolar with Psychosis.
The drug I was given was poison. I could feel the drug destroying my brain.
I quit taking the drugs and modified my brain to work correctly.
If you need any tips, my mind no longer races and i dont have psychosis.
Answer: Everything that psychiatrists have been doing since the beginning of psychiatry is an experiment - attempt and error - another attempt and another error. They have not come with anything that works yet. FDA approves their drugs based upon recommendations made by... - by whom? - by psychiatrists being paid by pharmaceutical companies.

Question: extrapyramidal side effects help? Which medicine can help to reverse tardive dyskinesia , acute dystonia and other adverse reactions induced by antipsychotics ?
Answer: Patients with severe or progressing symptoms should be considered for treatment with clozapine, which has shown good efficacy in reducing TD symptoms . Although numerous other treatments have been described, including vitamin E, dopaminergic agents, benzodiazepines, and branched-chain amino acids, none has been shown to be effective
