Question: If you lack Melatonin can that be the cause of allergies, particularly Solar Urticaria? What about an iron deficiency, would that cause allergies?
Answer: Allergies are due to several considerations like cell mediators (histamine, leukotreins) which are stored in certain cells (mast cells, basophils) in your body. The storage cells can be activated by many things like Antibodies (which the body makes itself for defense against outside organisms); when the Antibody is activated, it will stimulate the storage cells to release the chemical mediators and viola, allergic reaction.
If you lack melatonin, that could be caused by the same thing which is causing allergies, such as an auto-antibody (an antibody against something in the body ie Melatonin), and also causing the allergy such as the solar uticaria.
They are all generally linked in some way but one does not lead to the other, something else is causeing both of them, and I doubt the iron deficiency is causing the allergies though it could be a cause of the allergies.
Question: solar urticaria relief? I suffer from either solar or thermal urticaria (hives), or a combination of the two. When I'm out in the sun, my arms break out in a rash that usually also sunburns, resulting in a very painful itch. Benadril and gold bond don't help much, so are there any other treatments for me?
Answer: I was diagnosed with solar urticaria about a year ago, as a result of chronic sinus infections and a bad reaction to an antibiotic.
I've tried anti-stomach acid drugs (there's a connection for some), allegra-type drugs, and some homeopathic supplements/diet alteration.
None have worked for me. I'm still looking for the magic bullet.
They think it's an immune system problem, your body is now "allergic" to the proteins created when your skin gets sunlight.
My advice:
1. Get a good allergist.
2. Avoid the sun. I'm lucky, I'm okay outside when it's cloudy, but otherwise, I avoid it when I can.
3. Get an epi-pen and have it ready. If you get too much sun, you can go into anaphylaxis.
4. Keep researching. My next step to explore is something called UVA rush hardening...still trying to find a US resource on that.
Good luck. This is not easy to deal with.
Question: Physical urticaria and solar urticaria? What can i do to help my condition? I already take Alergie medication. I just developed physical and solar urticaria about a year and a half ago and since then ive ben hiding in the house from the sunlight as much as posible. I cant even take a slightly warm shower or my whole body brakes out in hives i cant be in the direct sunlight for more than ten minets or i have full body hives i cant even slowly walk 3/4 of a mile in the dark on a cool night with out breaking out in full body hives. i cant walk into a building with the heat on or i break out. Im on zyrtec right now ive tryed all over the counter alergie meds n theres only about 2 that work 2 some degree but they dont rely help much ive also ben perscribed a few but they dont work eather. Im only 18 years old and i need to be able to get a job some how so is there something i can do. I cant work outside because of the sun or inside because people turn on the heat. What can i do to help my condiction. My doctor only diegnosted me she didnt give me any medication or talk to me about this just told me what i have.
Answer: I sympathize with you. I had hives for 10 years and not quite that severe but life altering in many ways.
There are several things you need to look at. First of all, the doctor situation. You need to make an appointment with an allergist and get to it as soon as possible. They are the doctors most likely to find a medicine combination that will work for you. You may need to take two different ones to control yours.
I will tell you what worked for me in ending my hives and allowing me to return to a normal life. I went on a gluten free diet and after about 2 months the hives went away and I was able to stop all my meds and have been gluten free hive free for almost 7 years now. The gluten free diet works for about 10 percent of hives is my estimate. Gluten is found in wheat, rye and barley and things made from them.
The things you need to do before going on a gluten free diet is to get your doctor to test you for celiac disease. That is done with blood tests and possibly and endocscopic exam. After the test, if it is positive go on a gluten free diet. If the test is negative, go on a gluten free diet trial for about 3 months and see if the hives go away. That will rule out non-celiac gluten intolerance and gluten/wheat allergy.
The easiest way to start a gluten free diet is to start eating fresh fruits and vegetables, non-processed meats, fish, chicken, eggs and cheese. Add in potatoes and rice for starches. Stay away from commercial sauces and gravies and anything that has an ingredient on the label that you don't know what it is and where it comes from.
The third thing you can start trying is to find a job that you can work at home in. Things like call centers and things like that may have some work at home jobs. That will be the hardest part.
That is a long answer and if you have any questions, contact me through answers. Good luck!!!
Question: would you date a guy with solar urticaria? just curious (meaning being allergic to sunshine - rashes/itchy ect).
I avoid going outside when it's sunny, cloudy's ok. So i mostly go out at night. I'm not sure if this'll make it harder for me to find a potential partner though.... :(
Answer: Is your name Edward Cullen? j/k seriously if a girl finds you attractive or shes a nightlife kinda girl, than I see it working out fine. It might be weird for some girls, but if you live in a place where its not constantly sunny, I can see it being a little easier.
Question: I'm allergic to the sun (solar urticaria) and I get UV blackout windows but the police said their illegal....? Is there anything I can do......maybe a doctor's note?
Answer: A doctors note will probably not be recognized by the state. Tint is a safety issue, they will not make an exception for that.
Question: A great dermatologist in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill? I am moving to the Triangle area soon, and would like to see a *very good* dermatologist about my rosacea and solar urticaria.
I have had terrible dermatologists in the past and I need a recommendation... Thanks!
Answer: I went to: Wake Dermatology Associates

Phone: (919) 781-1001
They are great! I have only been twice, but saw two different doctors. Both were professional, knowledgeable and still had great bedside manners.
I just googled them and saw that they had a 5 star rating from their patients on one website.
Question: If I get an absess or ther infection after treatment at the dentist, will it ever clear up without antibiotics I had two replacement fillings and an extraction & I have had problems with my teeth ever since, feelings like toothache, unable to eat cold things, can't bite down on anything hard. The dentist says it is an infection & I have had 2 seperate lots of Amoxicillin, but it won't clear up. I have an immune deficiency, I also have Ulcerative colitis, so I can't have just any antibiotics. I don't seem to be getting over this & I am wondering if it is possible this will ever clear up on it's own if I just leave it now,or do I have to keep going back to the Dentist & getting nowhere. I tried to see my Doctor about it, but he didn't want to know & just suggested I ask the Dentist for a different antibotic, but the risks are 2 great on all the ones I've looked up, they all have side effects that wiil make my other illnesses worse, or they cannot be taken along with the other medicines I'm already using, or they cause abnomal reactions to sunlight and I already have Solar Urticaria as it is!!
Answer: Coming from someone that also can't antibiotics because of allergic reactions and getting every side effect known to man I came across a natural antibiotic that they use in the hospitals (Colliodal Silver). It has no side effects, does not interfere with any medications, can be used long term, usually works within 2-3 days, taste like water- no taste, can be taken on empty tummy or full, can be used directly on tooth, in eyes, in ears, etc. I sugggest you go to your local Natural Store or vitamin store and find it. Now it will not cause you to turn blue like some people like to claim. You would have to literally overdose on this stuff for years for that to happen. I guarantee you will be happy.
I had an abcessed tooth like you and had a root canal done and crown. I had such a nasty infection to the point that my entire face was swollen like a balloon and I could not hardly swallow. The dentist prescribed this heavy duty antibiotic that I knew I would not be able to take so I went down and got the Colloidal Silver on the advice of my sister in law who is a doctor and has been using it for many many years. I put it directly on the infected tooth several times a day and swallowed some too for good measure. I went back to the dentist 3 days later with the infection completely gone. The dentist said, "Oh I see you took all those antibitoics." I just smiled at him and didn't say a word. It has been 2 years since I had that done and no problems with the tooth.
I have used it on urinary tract infections on myself and my daughter when she was almost hospitalized for one and cured it within 3 days. My husband has had a nasty sinus infection and used the Colloidal Silver spray and he used it several times for 2 days and it went away and has yet to come back. That was over 2 months ago. It really is a life saver. I am a very sceptical person and if I can recommend it you know it will work.
Question: I think I have a sun allergy? Everytime I go in the sun I get hives that itch and hurt really really bad and even when I put on really high SPF sunscreen it still happens. Last summer I used loads of sunscreen and I was only in the sun for 10 minutes and I ended up getting a really really REALLY bad burn and I almost had to go to the hospital.
Is there any way I can make this go away? My doctor said it sounds like I have Solar urticaria
So please, help!
Answer: I have Lupus. That can happen with Lupus. I'm not trying to scare you. I'd just ask the Dr. if it's a possibility, and rule it out. They can do that with a blood test. It would be better to know sooner than later, that way you could get started taking better care of yourself. I hope you feel better.
Question: What does a real vampire do? Apart from what Stephanie Meyer seems to believe, real vampires don't sparkle, and they certainly don't drink animal blood. So, apart from that, what does a real vampire do?
And, just to get us thinking some more, why did vampires even appear in mythology? I was doing a little reading on this, and apparently, there have been some cases of Solar Urticaria, and a person is unable to come in contact with sunlight because it burns their skin...or something like that. But that's just what I think. You could have a completely different opinion...So, what do you think?
nesquikislifeforce: Let me assure you it was not my intention to insult anyone. I was merely asking if vampires appeared in mythology because of the condition.
brina: I like bunnies with mustaches and top hats. :D Actually, it's a picture my older brother made, so I took it to spite him.
Answer: A vampire is not a real person. It is a state of mind. The darker more secluded negative you. Everyone has an inner vampire. You know those days when you don't feel to good and someone around you is being bubbley and happy and sunny shine barbie ??? An sometimes you will like make fun of them, or lash out at them, or do something to make them feel less positive, and you feel slightly better? Thats a vampire (psychic vampire) It is when someone is so low on energy they feed off of negative comments, fighting, arguments, etc. It is when you can't feel positive and good by yourself so you need the enrgy and you get it by sucking it from someone else.
Our ancestors knew about this and they invented the vampire myth. Someone who lives alone, prays on young virigns (usually positive people) takes them away and sucks the youth from them (sucking the energy by force) it is that state of mind that the myth is based on.
P.S. the sunlight thing : people who feel negative and want to stay negative for some reason are sometimes afraid of becomming positive so they stay in their dark aura until it wears off. The sun is a giant ball of positive energy and that would drain away the negative web they have created.
