Question: Zoonotic Disease Transmitted Through Animal Bites? I have to do a report on a zoonotic disease only I can't choose which one I want to do. I'd like to do one that is transmitted via animal bites or scratches but I DON'T want to do rabies or anything parasitic. Can anyone think of any other diseases transmitted this way?
Answer: Cat scratch disease (aka cat scratch fever), caused by Bartonella henselae. Interesting, with the causative agent identified only fairly recently, plus it was a great rock song by Ted Nugent in 1977.
If that doesn't suit, check this CDC publication, which lists several more possibilities: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/rr/rr5404.pd…
What do you mean, you don't get to choose which one to do? Is your teacher going to assign you something?
Good luck!
Question: What kind of animal bites heads off of chickens and leaves the rest? My mother has chickens in her pen.Something is getting in and biting the heads off and leaving the rest.Could this be a weasel? What ever it is it has teeth strong enough to bite thru wire.I always thought weasels ate the whole chicken but someone told her they just eat the head sometimes.
Answer: Racoons and Weasles will do this, mainly because they are after just the brain. The brain has the best nutrients and fats for getting winterized. The predator might be unbalanced nutritition wise and is trying to bulk up on needed vitamins. Weasles and Racoons are also easily excited, when they get in a hen pen they can't help themselves and kinda go haywire, killing everything they can catch, they cant eat it all and they cant carry it all away, so they go for the choice pieces. The heads.
Cats, Foxes, Dogs, and Birds of Prey will generally only take one and go away to eat it, maybe coming back but they generally dont slaughter and eat only the head.

Question: If an animal bites you and has rabies how long does it take for you to die from it?
Answer: If you were totally alone, your throat wouyld swell up on the inside and you couldn't eat or drink anything. So you would die in 4 days from lack of water, or 2 weeks from lack of food.
BUT.. nobody who saw you would allow you to suffer. You would be taken tothe hospital for a "shot" in the abdomen to start the treatment. It is very curable nowadays.
Very few dogs get this disease. It is mostly carried by raccoons, rats, squirrels. Don't approach these animals acting abnormally.
