Question: Whats the best way to treat fire ant bites on a 1year old? This weekend he was playing in the grass and it looks like a few fire ants bit him, he never cried though I noticed his little ankle when we got in the house. Whats the best way for me to treat the bites?
Holly Wolly - They don't seem to bother him at all unless I touch them, they just look bad.
Answer: I would suggest a little Benadryl cream or Hydrocortisone cream.
Actually-better yet, call the pharmacy or the doc's office and see if those are ok to put on a 1 year old. I haven't read the labels...
Sorry I wasn't much help at all :)
ETA: Are they burning or itching him at all? If so, put an ice pack on it. I have a really cute scooby doo ice pack for my son (6 years old) and he loves it. Plus it is in a plush animal so it isn't really cold on him.
Question: How do I treat my fire ant bites? Yesterday i got about 150+ fire ant bites on my right leg (from my knee down). How could i treat it so that it goes away soon?It doesnt really itch, but i can feel it and it is really annoying. Now i know not to kneel down in an ant pile... espicially one you cant see =\.
Answer: The best thin for the bug bites is Burt's Bee's Bug Bite Relief. You can pick some up at the health food store. As far as the ants go, Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it here and there. The ants will come and pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants can’t digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.
Question: How to get rid of the itch from fire ant bites? My friend has gotten bitten/stung by tons of fire ants and has tried numerous things to help with the itch, she says the itch right now is the worst. This happened to her last night. I have done some searching but only seems so much can help and wondered if anyone has tried anything else and it worked.
We know Aloe is to help but she doesn't have any. She has done the baking soda and water to make a paste, ice compress, toothpaste she is trying now. Hydrocortizone cream didn't do a thing nor did calamin lotion.
Can anyone help with how to help get rid of the itch with stuff you can find at home that really works?
Thanks for the help! Have a great Labor Day!

Question: What can you do for Fire Ant bites? We just moved to Texas and lived in Indiana previously and never had to deal with fire ants. My 20 month old son just got attacked by them. He has bites everywhere. What do I do? How do I get rid of the ants and what do I do for the bites?
Answer: I know it sounds crazy but if you rub a small amount of bleach water on them it will take away the sting. I'm not sure if you want to do this for a baby but it works for adults. Just use diluted bleach with water on a rag and swab the bites.
Question: How do you treat Fire-ant bites? I play alot of disc-golf. From picking up frisbees, I must also pick up fire-ants. I don't notice the bites till the day after. Usually they are small and blistered on my hands. What do I do? Just ignore the bites like I have been? Ignoring the bites sometimes takes 2 or more weeks to heal.

Answer: Well.... youre not suppose to pop the blisters... if that is what you were saying.... but you could disinfect the area with alcohol, apply a commercial product to numb the area and relieve itching for a while, or spray a topical (cortisone) or take a systemic (oral) antihistamine (like Benadryl) may help prevent allergic reactions and swelling.
Question: Whats the best way to get rid of Fire Ant bites? I have 4 bumps from getting bit by fire ants. Whats the best way to get rid of them?
Answer: I use Benadryl Spray available at your local pharmacy. Once it's sprayed on your bites, it takes about 10 seconds and they won't itch or sting anymore.
Question: What's the best relief such as bactene, etc. to put on fire ant bites ? Definitely they are taking the Benedryl, but the bites seem like they are quite bothersome--
Answer: Go to your local health food store and buy Burt's Bee's Bug Bite Relief. It's works like a charm! I have posted a link below. For future reference you can kill all ants by using a mix of cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it here and there. The ants will come and pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants can’t digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.
Question: What is the best treatment for fire ant bites? My 3 year old stepped on a HUGE mound yesterday and was stung between 10 - 15 times on her foot. Does anyone know what kind of medicine to put on it to stop the itching?
I am from the Northeast and did not have these obnoxious creatures!!!! HELP!!! :)
Thanks!
I am allergic to Neosporin, so I am afraid to use it on my kids.
Answer: Expect pock mark like scars.
Benadryl ointment directly on the bites and Benadryl liquid in her tummy.
Cool compresses help--since it is her foot, use a cool damp sock.
Aloe with lidocaine(sunburn treatment) helps too.
Watch for fever or swelling.
