Neither of my parents had a Fissured Tongue but my grandfather did. I've read that it is hereditary. I've never had any problems with it.

Answer: tongue piercing is questionable even in a non fissured tongue. The infection rate is high and tooth breakage is possible. Also, try to imagine what kind of rep a pierced tongue gives a person. I am not against piercings or tattoos but I do think that the body art should be kept in places that can be covered by a normal dress or short sleeved shirt. This way when it becomes necessary to be conservative-you can. My son in law has a full sleeve tattoo and although he loves it, he has times when he thinks it is inappropriate and it is difficult to cover. I'd skip the piercing and get your hair done -or nails or whatever!!!!!

Question: Effective remedies for Fissured Tongue? I several large fissures in my tongue (condition named as "Fissured Tongue") that can be quite painful when eating acidic foods like tomatoes. I didn't have this when I was younger and it seems to be getting worse with age. I've been taking vitamins everyday for a decade, including B vitamins but that does not seem to help. You can get a medical prescription for it but since you are seeking an alternative method you can simply get a probiotic such as Culturelle or Acidophyllis..get it in capsule form. OPEN the capsule on your tongue and hold it there for about 10-15 seconds and do that twice a day until the area has healed..once it has healed continue to just swallow the whole capsules 2 times a day indefinately..Geographic tongue can be caused by an overgrowth of the unhealthy bacteria in your Digestive tract and by taking acidophyllis (the healthy live bacteria) you will replace the healthy bacteria which will in turn destroy the bad stuff and keep it at bay..
