Answer: Polysomnography technologists perform sleep studies to help patients of all ages who suffer with sleep disorders. The job responsibilities of a polysomnography technologist include preparing patients for sleep studies, monitoring patients during studies and recording results. Since sleep studies are usually performed in the evening hours, polysomnography technologists must often follow a nighttime work schedule. Most polysomnography technologists are employed in hospitals and sleep disorder centers
Question: Are all polysomnography test overnight? I have sleep paralysis and was wondering if i would have to stay overnight at a sleep center, hospital or where ever this is held?? thank you!
Answer: Wish I could think of the name of it... there is a place here in Wisconsin where they send you home with all the equipment and you don't have to spend the night at the sleep center. There are places out there.
Question: Must insurance companies honor your prescription for a sleep study (polysomnography)? i feel bad cuz its costing them money, and thus raising others costs, but my doctors suspect sleep apnea due to deviated septum.
Answer: I am nearly certain that a health insurance policy will honor the sleep study. If you have coverage by a policy which considers if a provider is "in network" or "out of network", be sure you choose one that is "in network". This will assure that you are not obligated to any charges over and above the allowance set by the insurance company.
My husband had the sleep lab done in 2003, in network. The insurance company "disallowed" a large percentage of the charges, because of the way the sleep lab submitted the charges. The sleep lab was not permitted to bill us for any of the disallowed amount, except for what was attributed to deductible.
Please do not postpone having your sleep study. It is so important to treat sleep apnea with a CPAP while sleeping. Your major organs can be adversely affected when they are deprived of oxygen caused by sleep apnea. With proper diagnosis, you can receive a CPAP, which will also be covered by health insurance, after deductible is satisfied.
You'll sleep better and live a more quality life when you are sleeping well. The cost is only one-time for the sleep study and the equipment. It can provide a lifetime of better health.
If you are in doubt regarding any insurance benefits, make sure you contact your own insurance company. Good luck.
Question: Polysomnography technologist? Please tell me about this job,the pay,and is it a stable job?
Answer: pay is 20bux an hr average, maybe a little more. stable yes. a lot of people out there have trouble sleeping, mostly because they have sleep apnea, they stop breathing for some reason.
If you're a vampire, then this job might be okay for you, but you have to be sure. you will go to the person's house, and observe them there or you can work in a sleep lab. you will start work around say 10pm and just watch and observe the person sleep the whole night. that's basically it. you will be working with machines thats hooked up to the person and pay attention and understand what's going on.
LOL make sure you don't fall asleep.
