Question: Metastasized Breast Cancer: do you know of any survivals? Initial evaluation of a lump revealed lymph modes infected and x-ray revealed lung involvement (10-2008). Patient is still asymptomatic but worried about survival. This is a close GF. I don't know what to say to her. This is horrible.
Answer: Yes I do, a co-worker 's wife has metastasized cancer for the last eight years. It started in her colon and then went into her lungs and now is back in her colon. She had to get permanent disability and has chemotherapy that is injected into her body by something that is strapped to her side.
She has done so much radiation that her skin turned almost black. But she keeps on keeping on. She has a daughter that she has seen graduate from H.S. and is now working and will soon get married. Her husband we talk a lot at work says she still has great attitude despite all the poking and probing she has experienced.
She has numbness from her knee down to her toes, and in her fingers. It never seems to go away. I saw her before the cancer and she was so full of life and energy.
Recently I saw her in December at the Holiday Party, my wife was with me and was told my wife is fighting breast cancer. They bonded immediately. My wife said that she was full of courage and was a help to see that she is still going strong.
People survive, but once it goes into other parts of the body, doctors only try to keep patients alive instead of attempting to cure it.
I believe that the love of life will be the weapon against this type of cancer, the hope of seeing the future especially when a young person is involved in their lives.
Question: Is there a whole body MRI for cancer and if so why isn't it used as a standard evaluation tool for cancer pati ents? My daughter has been diagnosed with Stage IIIC breast cancer and she has been Catscanned, and blood tested, bone scanned and ultrasounded. What checks for cancer in the body as we are concerned with the spread or mastesization of the cancer to other parts of the body? Wouldn't a whole body MRI verses just a breast MRI be more effective?
Answer: MRI affects every atom in your body. Although it is not known to be a carcinogen its use is limited so that the patient is not exposed to extra danger.
Also it isn't just the scanning that is time consuming - someone has to look at the results.
An MRI gives fantastically detailed pictures but some things show up in blood tests before they show on an MRI.
Some cancers do not show clearly on MRI but ultrasound will pick them up because of their properties.
Also Don't forget an MRI will only show what is there at the time of the scan.
I hope this answers your question and I wish your daughter all the best.
Question: please helppp. 17&breast cancer? :((((((? im17&i found 5 months ago a lump/ball in my left breast. i just did the self evaluation check& in only in the breast that i have the lump in... discharge came out of my nipple! the lump is a little bit smaller now after i tried to squeeze it all out, which didnt work. the lump is a little bit bigger than a quarter. it moves around and isnt really squishy.. its sorta hard.... is it cancer???? i went to the doctor he felt it... he said it might be just a breast milk gland but he doesnt know.. so its been a month since that appointment and my doc had to go thru my insurance and everything and now my ultrasound is next wednesday..... do u guys think its cancer?....
Answer: At 17 your chances of breast cancer are close to zero, as it's almost unheard of in under 25s, and in fact fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed are under 30.
Movable and changing in size doesn't suggest breast cancer.
You are fortunate to have a doctor who has taken this seriously - because breast cancer is so very rare in younger women many doctors dismiss the concerns of younger women about their breast health and do not refer them as emergencies - this includes women in their 20s and 30s as well as teens.
Best wishes for Wednesday; I know it's hard not to worry, but do try to bear in mind how unlikely breast cancer is at your age and the fact that there could be many other explanations
Question: Possibly breast cancer? HELP!? Pleaseee.? My nipples have been reddish, and look somewhat chapped, i did the self evaluation and everything seemed fine. I didn't feel any lumps, just the tissue or muscle, whatever that is, and there isn't ever anything draining out of them. They say if you squeeze them and something liquidy comes out you might have it. Nothing came out. I just recently got off my period, but thats not it. I have had this for quite a while but I thought it happened to everyone. I'm scared to tell my mom.. I need honest answers. I'm only fourteen and I am not on the pill. I have not had sex either.
Answer: Yeah, that sounds normal. If you're really worried though just tell your mom,( it's ok, its normal :) ), and go to the doctor. Try using lotion, any kind.
Question: Does this sound like a good deal? I submit photos of my breasts for evaluation, the person said they are a doctor and a breast cancer specialist. Have you ever heard of this, is it true?
Answer: yes it is. its free and he's very reputable.
edit: mike i is a liar.
Question: Persuasive Piece....? Murderous Moments
Did you know that each year almost half of all pregnancies among American women are unintended? Or did you know, about half of these unplanned pregnancies 1.3 million each year, are ended by abortion? The majority of unplanned pregnancies come as a result of having unprotected sex, birth control failure, or rape. Abortion can cost over $1,000 and this does not include the cost such as travel and overnight stays. Abortion should only be thought legal only under the circumstances of saving a life, preventing a woman from having health problems, or when a fetus has chromosome abnormality.
Abortion has not always been as safe as it is today. Between the 1880s and 1973, abortion was illegal in all or most of the United States, and many women died or had serious medical problems as a result. During this time, women often made desperate and dangerous attempts to induce their own abortions. Often, women had to receive medical attention for severe bleeding, rampant infections, poisoning, and retained placentas. Many of the doctors who provide abortions in the United States today are committed to providing this service under medically safe conditions. Around the world, in countries where abortion is illegal, it remains a leading cause of maternal death. Yearly, there is an estimated 68,000 women who die from unsafe abortions. Generally, the earlier the abortion, the less complicated and safer it is. Of teenage women who become pregnant, about 35% choose to have an abortion rather than bear a child.
There is a well established link between early pregnancy and rates of breast cancer later in life. For decades, physicians have realized that giving birth results in partial immunity from breast cancer. Studies have shown, that the younger the age when a woman gives her first child, the greater is her protection. Having an abortion terminates pregnancy, prevents childbirth, and prevents the young woman from receiving partial immunity to cancer, although not becoming pregnant at all can also prevent this immunity. Post abortion syndrome or PAS, appears to be rare; however, when it occurs it can be profoundly debilitating. It is one reason why a woman considering abortion should be fully informed in advance and make a careful evaluation of all her options. Abortion should not be a female thought, for any reason other than emotional, for it is a sign of murder, an incredulous sin.
There are two main issues concerning abortion. One of these issues is a moral decision based on religious belief, marital status, health, economic status, etc. The second, is the decision whether the government should veto her decision after receiving advice from physicians. This helps to generate intense levels of debate and occasional violence, whereas the first issue is set as a decision.
By the 5th week, a fetus gets its first heartbeat. If a heart is beating, there is a real human being inside. Humans have hearts that beat everyday until death. If a woman aborted a baby with a heartbeat, it would be a great deal of comparison to executing a child.
Those who promote pro-life postions say that the government should override a woman's decision to have an abortion in some, many, or all cases. Most pro-lifers base thier belief in the form of an ovum and spermatozoon, a human life becomes a human person at the time of conception. A pre-embryo, embryo, and fetus all have the right to live. Pro-life groups are most effective at the state level and have successfully influenced legislators and governors into creating many laws that restrict abortion. Although there have been various laws, many of the laws have been ineffectual.
Pro-choice are those who believe that the government should not interfere with the woman's decision, or should do so under rare circumstances. Most pro-choice believers see that human life becomes a human person at some time after conception. They believe that a woman should not be forced to go through pregnancy and childbirth if she does not choose to do so. A woman should be allowed to carry on an abortion if it is done before her embryo or fetus attains personhood. Personhood is the state or condition of being a person, especially having those qualities that confer distinct individuality. Each unborn child has a genetic trait unlike anyone else. They also believe that each woman should be free to follow their own ethical beliefs.
Pro-life and pro-choice positions cover a range of beliefs and advocacy. Both groups would like to see a reduction in the number of abortions performed. They both believe that once human personhood is attatined, their life should be safe. Abortions should only be made legal under the circumstances that it needed to save the life of the woman, prevent her from having serious health or emotional problems, or experience permanent disability or when a fetus has chromosome abnormality. A woman may have the right to sex, but she should not have the right to abort.
Answer: very persuasive good work

Answer: Hey will you send me your e-mail address and I will send you a revised copy? I love editing and revisions. :)
* I think it's reasonably persuasive, but you do need to cite your sources and more aggressively argue your point (you did a very good job of being respectful and non-judgmental, so try to keep that!!).
* All in all you did a good job and I just have a few organizational and grammatical suggestions.

Answer: Well, I didn't read it, but for persuasive writing you need to use imperative verbs, e.g. 'We must put an end to this!', 'It is essential that...' and statistics that support your point, as well as expert opinions ('Dr. Smith from the University of Life had this to say:...').
You can also use short sentences for impact, i.e. 'Abort abortion.' and other techniques like exclamation marks, the rule of three ('Not ..., not ..., but ...'), stuff like that.
Make sure you've got a good selection of that kinda thing - teachers love it.
=D
Question: Persuasive writing, help!!? How do I turn this into a persuasive form of writing? Improvements would be nice, also! I'm writing over abortion being illegal, for the most part. I have trouble getting the right info, and placing where I stand. I know where I stand, but I don't think the reader does.. This piece also seems to be like a report. I would love grammar tips, and also stronger verbs!

Answer: You need to state your purpose in the beginning. Opening with a question is good, but it should only be one question. So something along the lines of: Did you know about half of Americas 1.3 million unplanned pregnancies each year are ended by abortion? (State your position here)
Then you need to state your reasons. Three or more. Typically three is a good number. Some reasons for each side may be.
1) a heartbeat is sign of life 2) Many people who can not have children would love to adopt 3) You must atone for mistakes made. Whatever your reasons may be, decide and state them after your first two sentences. EX. Did you know about half of Americas 1.3 million unplanned pregnancies each year are ended by abortion? (State your position here). It should be illegal to abort a child because ..(State your 3 reasons here).
Then in the next 3 paragraphs expand upon each idea. One idea per paragraph. Your final paragraph should restate your position on abortion. The paper you wrote is too all over the place. It needs to be a very concise paper that supports your position.

1: A car mechanic is given a 1966 Mustang to fix. The owner's complaint is that the engine runs roughly, especially when the car is accelerating. The mechanic's first guess as to the source of the problem is that the fuel mix is too rich. After adjusting the fuel mix valve, the problem persists, so the mechanic then guesses that the sparkplug advance mechanism is faulty. Replacing the sparkplug advance mechanism (the diaphragm attached to the distributor) fixes the problem, and the fixed car is returned to the owner.
