Question: Fetal growth restriction and low fluid.? Hello. I'm 29 weeks pregnant and on hospital bedrest and fetal montioring b/c of low amniotic fluid and fetal growth restriction. I have to have an ultrasound every morning so I never know what day is going to be delivery day which is very scary. Thank goodness that the baby looks completely normal and all her organs are functioning properly. The doctors hope to hold off delivery until she is 34 weeks. Has anyone else ever heard of this? The docs have no idea what is causing it b/c I'm not leaking fluid and I'm at a university hospital with the 3rd largest NICU in the USA. I also have to have a c section which I've never had before and I was wondering how they treat the pain after that if you're breastfeading. Since she will be premature I'm afraid of how pain meds would affect her since I have to provide breastmilk for her as soon as she's born to help fight off infection and provide antibodies for her. Thanks in advance for any answers and please keep my little one in your prayers!
Answer: I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS..... Yes I have had this. If you are up to hear more let me know....I don't want to scare you. But I am truly sorry you are going through this. What hospital are you in? You will definately be in my prayers.

sorry I had my email blocked from receiving messages from here....it's fixed now.....
Question: small fetus (fetal growth restiction)? im 34 weeks pregnant and have been told that my baby is only weighing 1740gms which is 3pound 12 ounces.I have to go back weekly for ultra sounds 2 c how the progress of the fetus is going.Just wondering if any1 has had a similar situation or has any information on fetal growth restriction
Answer: I know one thing that helps when this goes on... although I haven't really experienced it myself. But start eating a lot of rice... and chicken... Eat one whole chicken a day if you can with a few cups of rice. This will really help the baby put on weight a lot faster. Congratulations and best wishes to you. I am sure everything will work out.
Question: any1 had or having a small baby? im 35 weeks pregnant and my baby has fetal growth restriction. She is weighing 1.7kg 3pound 13 ounces and were both being monitered quite closley with ultra sounds every week and if the baby does fully stop growing they r going to induce me.Has any1 had a similar problem or no anything about this situation.
Answer: hi, I am a Midwife and new mother of a little 11 week old girl who was also growth restricted. At 41 weeks she was only 2.5kgs (5lbs 11oz) and didn't actually grow from 35 weeks.
As long as you are being monitored closely with scans and being seen by your obstetrician then that is all you can do. Also rest up when you can as that really does help to grow your baby!
I was finally induced at 41 weeks as unfortunately I didn't see my doctor until this stage and had I seen her they would have induced me sooner. It can be a long process especially if it is your first baby as you are forcing the body to do something it isn't quite ready to do yet. But you will be monitored the entire time and if your little one shows any signs of distress they will act accordingly.
Even though I am a Midwife and I do advocate normal birth as much as possible, I am also a mother and am realistic about what really needs to happen in some circumstances. All that matters is that you and baby are healthy at the end of the day so if the induction goes ahead and a caesarean happens as a result, then that is the best way for you both.
My little girl is now 11 weeks and just 4kgs. She is doing good despite being a hungry little devil and suffering horrendous reflux.
It sounds like you are being looked after well and as I would expect with your condition so rest whenever you can and just see what happens. Good luck xx
Question: Has my baby stoppped growing? So my midwife has told me my baby is measuring 34 weeks when i am 35 weeks pregnant and i weight the same as 34 weeks as well. I have gained 46 lbs with this pregnancy and he was measuring normal up until this point. I have an appointment on wednesday and i will be 36 weeks. She says if i still measure the same they are going to do a ultrasound. What if he still measures the same? What will happen? Could this mean he has fetal growth restriction and i will have to deliver?
Answer: could mean the baby has started to drop and is lower than the week before, although a 1 week difference is not considered much, my dr didnt even measure me this week (35 weeks) she said that I looked a lot lower so she didnt feel a fundal height would be accurate, I also lost a pound this week brining my weight gain to 17 pounds, (I was only 125 to startwith) and they arent too worried, they may do an ultrasound just to make sure the lil bugger is head down like they are supposed to be and close to an average weight. I wouldnt worry too much.
Question: small baby being induced? im 35 and 5days weeks pregnant and is having a baby with fetal growth restriction. My baby is on the 3rd centile weighing 4pounds 7 ounces 2kgs.i have an growth utra sound at 36weeks and they are concidering inducing me at 37weeks.Has any1 had a similar situation or got any advice about eithere my baby or being induced.
Answer: While I had no complications, I was induced at 41 weeks.
They are considering having your baby early because he is not growing well in your womb. In cases like this, the baby would actually do better in the outside world, instead of inside.
The good news is that a baby can go home pretty quick after delivery if they are over 4 pounds, which is already is.
As for being induced, the contractions are a lot more painful because your what your body is "made" to do happens in a matter of hours, instead of usually days when you give birth naturally.
Good-Luck!
Question: small baby bein induced at 36 weeks im 36 vweeks pregnant and my baby is has fetal growth restriction. My baby is weighing 1.9kgs and is going to be induced 2moro.Im really scared as this is my first baby and have no idea what to expecthaving a small baby and also being induced has an1 had a similar situation or any advice at all.
Answer: dont worry i had it to..
all my babies stopped growing my last at 33 weeks
she was very small but shes 8 months old. shes been crawling since 5 months, shes standing up. says 3 words
so you will have a smaller baby than the average.
my last was a c section as i wouldn't dialate so keep it in mind that could happen.
my c section was smooth and was great, bub was in special care for 3 weeks and i saw her but it was much needed rest to. my scar you honestly hardly see now.
good luck.
Question: having a small baby? im 35 weeks pregnant and my baby is weighing 1700gms 3pound 13ounces which the doc are concerned about the babies weight .They have diagnosised fetal growth restriction. I now have to go each week for dopplers and growth ultra sounds.Im scared and worried and just seeing if any1 has had the same situation or has any clue about this?
thanking u.....
Answer: when they do an ultrasound and give you a weight they are giving you an estimated weight. the weight they give you can be off by up to two lbs. if add two lbs. to the 3lbs 13 oz estimate you would get 5lbs 13 oz which is average for 35 weeks of gestation... at my last ultrasound they said my baby weighed in at 10lbs 1 oz at 39 weeks well they did a c-section and he just weighed 8lbs 11.8 oz.. so the ultrasound was off on weight...have in good faith that you doctor has your babys health at intrest and will do what ever nessessary for your baby's health... and it seems to me that they are doing given that they want you in for dopplers and ultrasounds everyweek.. i wish you the best of luck..
Question: IUGR - What is the 10th percentile? The most common definition of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a fetal weight that is below the 10th percentile for gestational age as determined through an ultrasound. This can also be called small-for gestational age (SGA) or fetal growth restriction.

Does anyone know what the 10th percentile is at different gestational ages? I am 37 weeks and an u/s estimated that my baby only weighs about 5 lbs. I know this is an estimate, and my doctors are watching closely. At this time, the baby is not in the 'danger zone,' but does anyone know what would be considered 'dangerous?'
I will of course find out more at my next appointment on Thursday and ask my doctor this question also. Thank you!
I was just curious because up until the 37th week, my baby was growing normally. Now she has either slowed down or stopped and I was curious if she does not put on any more weight if there is a chance they will induce me. I was induced with my first, and had hoped to do this one naturally.
Again, I know only my doctor can really answer this for me, I was just looking for some experiences or knowledge. She is over the 10th percentile right now, but that could change if she isn't growing. I just wanted to know what the 10th percentile is.
Answer: You can google gestational age growth charts, they have them on the CDC website too.
But the 10th percentile at 37 weeks is roughly 2150 grams, or about 4 lbs 12 oz.
At full-term, 40 weeks, the 10th percentile is roughly 2650 grams, or 5 lbs 13 oz.
Since babies can gain up to a half pound per week in the last month of pregnancy, I wouldn't worry too much about your baby being too small.
Good luck to you!
Question: different due dates given? hi, im nearly 39 weeks pregnant. i go to the hospital twice a week for stress tests due to pre term labor and placental and fetal growth restriction. Because of the restriction problem, my doctor pushed my due date back as far as 4 weeks. i had an ultrasound at the hospital to to measure the babies growth and his development is on track for 39 weeks, but he is just small. My first child was 4 pounds 10 and full term. she was completely healthy. But i don't understand why my doctor keeps telling me im 4 weeks behind what i really am. would it be to late to change doctors? and what should i do about it, because 4 weeks is a pretty big difference in dates.
i used the same doctor in my last pregnancy. also the doctor at the hospital said if he was my doctor he would induce me next week, but he is advising my doctor to induce me.
Answer: Did you have the same doctor as you did with your first one? I would remind them your oldest one was small baby. It maybe to late to change doctor. If the ultra sound said your baby is 39 weeks then I would just go by that. Your baby will probably be born before you doctor is thinking. Don't stress over it just let your little one show the doctor he is ready to come. Your doctor can move your due date but that does not mean your baby wont come sooner.
