Question: Constipation? I was wondering if anyone had any at home remedies that can help with constipation in my 3 month old. He pooped early Monday and hasnt pooped since. I am breastfeeding and I can tell he is really gassy and cant poop, It seems like he tries but nothing happens.
Thanks!
Answer: Breastfed babies can go for up to a week without having a bowel movement! Your milk is so perfect that there is just less waste to dispose of! I wouldn't worry about it untill it has been over a week. Then I would call your docter. I wouldn't try introducing a bunch of "home remedies" if I were you. My guess is that your baby is fine and will produce a stinky in a day or so.
Question: Whole Wheat is supposed to be high fiber good for constipation but wheat produces lot of heat. How come? I have always heard that wheat produces lot of heat hence should be avoided during summer coz it may aggravate piles , constipation etc But its also mentioned that Whole wheat has lot of fiber and hence is good for constipation. How come?
Answer: The health benefits of wheat depend entirely on the form in which you eat it. If you select 100% whole wheat products, however, the bran and the germ of the wheat will remain in your meals, and the health benefits will be impressive! Our food ranking qualified whole wheat (in its original non-enriched form) as a very good source of dietary fiber and manganese, and as a good source of magnesium.
The many benefits of whole wheat products are being recognized more and more by consumers.

Question: How many days of constipation before seeing a doctor? Constipation states yesterday. Much more than I've ever been. Very little made its way out. Today absolutely nothing has come out. How long should I go before seeing a doctor?
I should also note that the problem isn't getting it to move, but getting it out the exit. It feels too small. My urine is also very orange. I guess I have to drink more.
When should I make an appointment with my GI doctor? It will probably take three days to get in.
Answer: I was constipated for a week once, when I was 13 years old. At the end of that week, I got cramps. Bad. Turned out, my appendix was about to bust.
Question: How can I help my wife from constipation? She's been occasionally suffering from constipation. Is this not because she is already 57 years of age? Is it because at our age, digestive system starts to malfunction? And could constipation go to cancerous case?
Answer: Many people suffer from occasional constipation. Usually constipation isn't a serious matter and is correctable and preventable by making a permanent change in eating habits and lifestyle. Increase dietary fiber, water intake to 2-3 liters/day, and increase phsyical activity. The occasional (and I stress occasional) use of a stool softener or laxative is fine. She can speak to her doctor about this and her constipation.
Constipation is more common in people over the age of 65.
Whether this will lead to cancer or whether the constipation is due to cancer, remains to be seen. There would be other signs and symptoms. At this point, I would not be concerned about it. If her constipation becomes chronic or cannot be remedied by my suggestions, she should report this to he doctor.
Question: Can Soy Milk cause constipation? What are the affects of drinking too much soy? Foods that help constipation? I have bad constipation and bowel problems, and I'm also lactose intollerant (milk makes my constipation worse), so I've been drinking 4 glasses of soy milk a day, eating soy cheese, and drinking a soy protein drink. Is that too much soy, and does soy cause constipation? I take magnesium and miralax for the constipation, but what foods might help the constipation (besides prunes)?
Answer: Soy milk/products might, because it has a lot of protein in it. Try All-Bran buds in the morning with just a bit of your soy milk, and try to drink a lot of water as well.
Question: What is the difference between constipation and severe constipation? I want to know what is the difference between constipation and severe constipation, as far as definition. causes and symptoms.
Thank you
Answer: Constipation is where you have to strain to get the stool out.
Severe constipation is where you need to take medical or physical action to empty the bowel.
Both have the same essential cause which is slowed transit time in the bowel leading to dehydrated, hardened stools.
Here is the link to the bristol stool chart - with sufficient fluids and fibre a normal stool is a 3, 4 or 5.

Question: What can a gal with gastroparesis do to ease constipation from lack of fiber? I have recently been diagnosed with postviral gastroparesis. Although I am tolerating the low fat low diet fairly well (oh how I miss fresh veggies and loathe baby food!), I have developed a strong tendency towards constipation. I believe this is due to the "low fiber" part of my diet. I am a little concerned about this because of a strong family history of colon cancer, and fiber is said to help prevent it... What can I eat or take to relieve the constipation?
Answer: Hey, I'm very sorry about your recent diagnosis. I also have gastroparesis. My gastroenterologist recommended Miralax to me. I haven't tried it yet because I haven't had problems with constipation, but it's supposed to be a mild, but effective laxative. I know what you mean about baby food... ugh! I prefer blended up soups now to baby food, except the fruit ones are ok. You should check out the yahoo group for gastroparesis. They offer a lot of support and advice for fellow patients. The link is http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/gas… They are a wonderful group and it's a great place to vent when you're having a rough day. Good luck to you.

Question: How should i get rid of my constipation and bloating after i just finished a diet? I have recently gotten off of my diet, just a low calorie diet, and now i am starting on a new eating plan which is 5 small meals a day to help speed up my metabolism and i have been eating the daily intake of fiber and having a healthy balanced diet and i exercise a lot and i've been drinking water and i've even tried a gentle over night laxative. What should i do to get rid of my bloating and constipation?
Answer: Prune juice and cranberry juice. Not the cocktail kind. Continue drinking water. You may also try adding flax seed meal to your diet. You can buy it a health food store. A few sprinkles a day keeps the doctor away.
Question: what is the best way to avoid constipation? I am a piles patient and want to know how can i get rid of constipation.
Answer: foods most likely to prevent and cure constipation little of CoarsWheat Bran &Rice Bran and lots of Fruits and Veg.Prunes.Figs.Dates.COffee.Lots of fluids ,if your constipation is chronic or ir is known to result from a medical problem consult a physician before radically changing your diet....there are foods to watch for: caffeine. although coffee can be a laxative, caffeine can also contribute to constipation in some.Onevsurvey of 15,000 men and women by University of North Carolina researchers noted that those who were often constipated drank more tea and coffee. A possible reason: the nerves of the colon may come to tolerate the constant stimulant effect of coffee and caffeine, and thus become sluggish, just as they often do when people become overdependent over-the-counter stimulant-type laxatives..another food to watch for ..milk and calcium...
