Question: Why do you have to remove nail polish before surgery? It seems before any surgery, the prep sheet tells you to remove nail polish.
Answer: Because general anaesthetic can effect circulation. Changes in the colour of nail beds is one of first signs that there is a change. They need to see what colour they are before you go under, and during. Spotting signs as early as possible can reduce problems associated with the side effects of general anaesthetic.
Despite the rise in plastic surgeries, general anaesthetic is still not without its risks.
Question: Is it normal for a doctor to prescribe athlete foot medication after nail surgery?
Answer: I'm not an MD, but I would expect it to be preventative. Shoes are high humidity areas and feet go places other feet have been. Best to prevent the fungus, because it is really hard to eliminate it once it starts.
Could also be that the nail surgery was related to athlete's foot already being present - it can get under nails and cause discoloring and loosen the nails.

Question: How much is nail replacement surgery? I have really messed up nails and it looks like fungus and im 15 and get maid fun of. How much is it to replace my nail with new nail that looks normal? BTW IM A GUY.
My nails keep having problems they grow back its not a fungus either. So they dont go away without surgery in my case.
Stop saying there is no way to fix them there has to be a way.
Answer: There is no surgery to replace your nails, just leave them alone, let them grow out a a little, them clip them, DO NOT CHEW THEM, keep the cuticles pushed back (That's the thin skin at the base of the nail.)
Question: Has anyone ever had nail surgery for ingrown toenails? My 12 yr old son is having work done on both of his big toes for ingrown toenails. Has anyone had the procedure done and if so, what was your experience like? How painful was recovery and how long did it take before you were active again? He will be getting a local anaesthetic so I assume the procedure itself should be pain free.
Answer: hey. just read the post and im 15 i've had both of my toe nails done. Only pain full thing is when they inject the anaesthetic few seconds and you cant feel no pain only hot and cold... i was out of action for around 1-2 weeks you need to clean it up on a daily basis or every 2 days cant remember. hope i helped =]
Question: Why does makeup, nail polish and contact lenses have to be removed before surgery? Just curious.? I am always reading about this and was wondering what effects makeup and nail polish has on surgery? Especially something like a c-section.
Answer: Nail Polish and Toe polish has to be removed so they can check the blanching in your fingernails or toe nails.
Make up- it's a sterile environment, plus they watch the skin color. (this also depends on what type of surgery your having.
Jewelry- It's basically so you don't lose it or have to worry about it being stolen.
Contacts- If something happens the last thing they want to do is try to fish out a contact and since your eyes roll back in your head when you go to sleep it avoids the contact from getting stuck somewhere in the eye cavity.
I hope this helps.
Question: Can my 3 yo go in the ocean after toe-nail surgery? She had the procedure 8 days ago, has been soaking twice daily in warm water w/ epsom salt and been taking antibiotics daily. Toes are healing fine, but new skin has not yet fully developed. Saw podiatrist yesterday and he is happy with healing process. Did not ask about going to the beach. She has played in the sand once since, but not in the ocean. Would this be ok?
Answer: I wouldn't let the baby in the ocean, Ocean water is disgusting. Thats a for sure way to get an infection..
Question: Can you get an ingrown toe nail surgery removal were your toe nail grows back?
Answer: all really depends on how your body takes to the surgery and how much if any damage is done to the nail bed and cuticle area..you would be surprissed at how your body will heal from things my daughter cut her thumb off from the knuckle up it was sewn back on she lost the nail a month later and 3 months later it grew back you cant even tell anything has happend
