Question: Pulmonic Stenosis? MY 1YR OLD DAUGHTER HAS TO GO TO THE DR ABOUT THIS. WHAT IS IT? WHAT WILL HAPPEN? PLZ HELP
Answer: Pulmonic Stenosis refers to the heart valve between the right ventricle and the pulmonary arteries. The right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs via the pulmonary arteries. This is how your blood get oxygen in it. Stenosis means a narrowing. It could be the valve itself or just above or below it. I'm assuming you are going to a pediatric cardiologist. They will do an echocardiogram on your baby (this doesn't hurt, its the same kind of thing you had when you were pregnant when they looked at the baby . . . ultrasound/sonogram) This will show how much stenosis or if its real at all. My son had the same thing done when he was 1. It turned out to be nothing, just a false alarm. If the echo shows that there is something wrong, its hard to say what will happen next. Sometimes they wait and see if it gets worse before they do anything. If they feel they need to open the valve more (stenosis means it doesn't open all the way) they can do that in the pediatric cardiac cath lab using a balloon, with good success. I think things will probably be okay. I know it's hard as we all worry about our babies, but try to stay positive.
Question: what do you feed a 10 wk old puppie with pulmonic stenosis?
Answer: Ask the vet who diagnosed the puppy.
Question: Pulmonic stenosis in dogs? Our scottie girl was diagnosed with pulmonic stenosis as a pup (grade 4/5 heart murmur) She's now 4 yrs old and is still doing very well. She is on Atenolol 25mg per day. If you didn't know this about her, you would never guess, she is lively and energetic as always. However, I wondered if any of you have experience with this illness and, now that she is 4 yrs old, I have been warned to expect a decline in her health as she gets older. Is there anything more I can do to help her?
Hi Cameochis
I would love for the heart murmur to recover and I know that this is common, but not in our case. She is re-evaluated every 6 mths. One side of her heart is now slightly enlarged due to the extra strain. Thanks 4 your kind comments.
Answer: I had a GSD with this. His heart was quite enlarged. My vet (a friend) told me that the dog could die tomorrow or he could live a long life. He told me to enjoy my dog. I certainly did and I even competed in Agility with him. He died at the age of 11 from an unrelated illness.
I can only repeat what my friend said to me "ENJOY YOUR DOG!"
Good Luck to you both

Answer: Um, I would put this in the pet section... and most likely you need to place a call to a Veterinarian to give you the answer... not a bunch of bored Mom's sitting on the internet... Kthxbai...
