Question: Anybody else have Dermatographic urticaria ( Dermographism) OR Skin writing?????? i had this for 6 months and the doctor said that it would go away in about 8 WEEKS. My condition is getting worse, i start to get them at night. I changed everything even what i eat, shower with, wear, and take!!!! is there a way it can improve??? if so someone help me PPPPPPPPLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS…
Answer: I had that for almost 10 years. I could sit in a hard back chair and see the design on my back. They were controlled by claritin and advair or serevent (last two are asthma meds). I have also heard of people responding to singulair(another asthma med). Go to an allergist if you aren't already because they will more aggressively work with you.
I finally got rid of my hives and meds when I went on a gluten free diet. Gluten is found in wheat, rye and barley and products made from them. You can approach this form two different ways depending on your circumstances. The first is to get testing for celiac disease which involves blood work and then possibly followed by an endoscopic exam of the small intestine. This will tell you if you are intolerant to gluten.
The second way is to try a 2 month trial gluten free diet which is easy to do for a while by just eating fresh fruits, veggies and non processed meats and adding rice and potatoes for starches. Avoid breads, desserts and store bought sauces and gravies and anything processed that doesn't say gluten free until you learn how to read labels. This approach will work if you are intolerant or allergic to gluten, wheat, rye or barley.
If you do the second approach before getting the testing, you will have to go back on a gluten containing diet to get tested or the results won't be accurate.
Good luck and if I can help anymore let me know.
Question: How to get rid of Urticaria? I have a minor urticaria (also known as dermographism) and I've had it for around 3 years now. What it basically is, is when you scratch your skin the spot you scratched becomes raised, sometimes itching. Any help?
Answer: I had dermographism and several other forms of urticaria for about 10 years. Mine went away when I went on a gluten free diet. If you want to try a gluten free diet, the first thing you should do is get tested for celiac disease and dermititis herpetiformis which are conditions due to gluten intolerance. After the test, if it is positive, go on a gluten free diet and you should get better. If the test is negative, still try a gluten free diet for 2-3 months to see if your urticaria gets better. This will rule out non-celiac gluten intolerance and celiac/wheat allergies.
Gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley and maybe oats and products made from them. The easiest way to get started on a gluten free diet is to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh or frozen non processed beef, fish, pork, chicken, eggs, beans, potatoes, rice and cheese. If you are going to stay on the diet, you can learn how to find substitutes for gluten containing products you miss.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
