Question: I beleive I have Oral Lichen Planus? Hey there, my name is Dan and I'm 18 years old and I'm going to see an Oral Surgeon in March about some painless white lines and white spots in my mouth. I beleive smoking has had some sort of effect on my mouth. Assuming cigarettes contain arsenic and many other carcinogenic substances, I beleive what has developed in my mouth is causing Lichen Planus, any help will be appreciated. I've seen countless GP's and they all seem to also think Lichen Planus, I was just recently asked to go see an Oral Surgeon by my GP to be sure it's nothing serious.

Answer: Yes, lichen planus is a somewhat common occurence and normally harmless. However, an oral surgeon consult wouldn't be a bad idea just in case. Since you are a smoker, sometimes there can be precancerous cells and the oral surgeon can detect and remove before a problem occurs. Just make sure they do not want to do a ViziLite check on you, don't waste your money. You want someone who has a VelScope.
