Question: liposarcoma?

Answer: A liposarcoma is a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma that develops in the fat tissue. They can develop anywhere in the body, but most often appear (as soft lumps) in the thigh, behind the knee, or in the abdomen. These types of tumors can grow quite large and bulky and can metastasize. There are four different types of liposarcoma (well differentiated, myxoid, round cell and pleomorphic) . Your doctor should be able to tell you which type you have. They generally occur in adults between the ages of 50 -65. Some liposarcoma's are slow growing, others are not. It is critical that you discover which type of liposarcoma you have. Complete surgical removal with good margin is the preferred method of treatment, but much depends upon the grade and stage of the cancer.
