Question: Henoch schonlein purpura questions? I had a mild/short case of henoch schonlein purpura when I was 6. I am 17 now, and I am considering joining the Air Force.
Can it reoccur later on in life?( Is there a chance of it randomly flaring up again despite my age?)
Should I mention it when they go through my medical history?
Answer: Yes I think you should mention it. It will not affect your application to join the Air Force as long as you are fit and healthy now. I first had Henoch-Schonlein purpura when I was 20 and bouts of rash for about a year afterwards. It can reoccur but this tends to be milder than the original "flare up."
Question: What is Henoch-Schonlein Purpura? Why do kids usually gets it? Why does it come with a triad of symptoms? My kid has HSP.
I understand its autoimmune but i just can't accept that.
It pains me seeing him complaining of severe abdominal pain and being injected with high doses of steroids for pain control.
I take very good care of my child and i just need to know why does it all suddenly happened to him.
He has rashes behind both ears extending to lower extremities.
He also started complaining Muscle cramps and easily tires to walk.
I am very eager to learn in detail the course of HSP.
I hope somebody out there can help me.
thank you very much.

Answer: I heard it's an auto immune allergic disease, but doctors don't really know the cause. It is mostly children's disease, especially boys, and appears after some cold symptoms.
As much as kidneys are the most important but rare complication, if you don't have kidney problems, you could be able to follow your studies. But you never know, as the real cause of the disease is not sure.
I think if your nutrition is rational and good with fresh foods, I don't think it could happen again.
This is what is written in the following site:
http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/4000122…
Prognosis
HSP is an acute self-limited illness and usually resolves without treatment, but may rarely lead to complications. Initial attacks of Henoch-Schonlein purpura can last several months. One third of patients have one or more recurrences.
Children younger than 3 years have a shorter, milder course and fewer recurrences.
The long-term prognosis of Henoch-Schönlein purpura is directly dependent on the severity of renal involvement.
Question: What do you know about Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP)? HPS is a disease that deals with vasculitis and causes bruises after a viral infection. Our 2 year old niece is being tested for it right now in the hospital. The doctors can't think of anything else her symptoms may point to. She has severe, sudden bruising and joint pains.
Does anyone have any experience with this, in either children or adults? Thank you so much!
Answer: I was diagnosed with Henoch-scholein Purpura by an E.R DOC. Said I was thought to be the oldest person ever seen with it at age 28, don't know that's true or not. My family phy. had no experience with it, if fact it went un-diagnosed for some time until it got really bad one might causing the trip to the E.R. It has something to do with an inflamation of the blood vessels and it causes for lack of a better term "Leakage" that's the purpura to appear on the legs and sometimes butt. I have done a lot of research on this, as it scared me to death. my email is marialb23@yahoo.com if you have specific questions, I don't mind. I went through dermatologists and everything over it.

Question: has anyone ever had henoch schonlein purpura like me? www.medicinenet.com/henoch-schonlein_pur…
this site tells you all about it - but my illness was triggered by an allergic reaction to a colouring in a lollypop at a kids birthday party and i was in hospital for 2 weeks and immobile for a further 4. any other experiences appreciated?
Answer: I have only seen about 6 cases in over 30 years. Henoch-Schönlein Purpura is more often triggered by streptococcal infections, which I think was the case in all those I have seen, but allergies can also be a rarer cause. 5 of those were children under 10 years, and only one, the most recent, was in an adult. It is generally self limiting, and it sounds as if you are now recovering.
