Question: Does anyone suffer from Fixed Drug Eruption? Being left with marks on body that look like bruising? I had a reaction to a medication and was informed by a dermatologist that it was a "Fixed Drug Eruption". meaning that every time I was exposed to the offending medication that areas on my body erupted in red itchy patches. After the offending drug was stopped, the redness and edema subsided, however I am left with many marks on my body that appear to look like a bruise, although they are not painful, just ugly! I was told that this is "Classic Fixed Drug Eruption" and when I researched this on line, it sounds true, however I have not found a way to get rid of the areas. The dermatologist told me that "NOTHING" would help, that they just have to fade with time..........I have waited almost 10 months now and they are still there!! A plastic surgeon would not even see me, referred me to a dermatologist again. The original dermatologist told me that "lasers" would not help...tried prescription bleaching creme...nothing. Anyone else out there? All of the sites on line NEVER refer to a Cure!

Answer: I've had something similar, though I was fortunate not to have it last that long. I, too, was on a medication that made it look like I was bruised all over. However, once I stopped the medication, the bruised look subsided after only a few months. Have you tried either Vitamin K cream or taking the vitamin itself? That might be one way to go. The other would be to see if you can research specialists who handle this (look online).
