Question: Dermabrasion?????????? I have acne and acne scars. My skin appears darker than what it was befor my scars. Will getting dermabrasion clear up my skin and give me back my natural skin color. what about a chemical peel

Answer: Yes, getting dermabrasion can work well on your skin, but depending on the intensity of your acne it may not keep you from getting future outbreaks on more dark spots. Dermabrasion can also be very costly just as chemical peals and both take several visits. Some people take more than others pending on how bad your situation may be. I suggest that you find a good cleansing system that assures balancing and toning the skin. You can find a good line of products at you local spa or full services salon that are of high quality. They can also be costly but last longer and still don't cost as much as dermabrasion and chemical peals. Otherwise, you can use products such as Aveeno or Nutregina that have an even tone line and actually work fairly good yet may take a little longer so have patience.

Question: Can dermabrasion and laser treatments get rid of stretch marks? I gained weight recently and developed horrendous, ugly stretch marks on my bottom, hips, and inner thighs. They really bother me and I want to get rid of them (no words of consolation can make me like them more). Do dermabrasion and laser treatments work?

Answer: Laser treatment can help, but dermabrasion won't do a thing. With laser, the light beam stimulates the collagen underneath the skin which kind of plumps up the gap caused by the stretched skin, and tightens that gap up a little bit. Pulse dye lasers work well on lighter stretch marks, while other types of lasers heat up the reddened or brownish marks and make them lighten, but they still work by stimulating the collagen. It's expensive, but if you are really bothered, it would be worth it. There's usually no charge for a consultation, either. Just ask around your community for referrals to good laser clinics. Question: Are there added risks in doing a dermabrasion procedure on your face versus a microdermabrasion procedure? Will your face look scalped and unnatural if you get a dermabrasion procedure? Answer: Yes there are. Dermabrasion is a much more intense procedure than microdermabraion. And I don't think any facial procedures help in clearing skin in the long run. They may help initially, but the acne problem will usually come back if you haven't gotten to the root of the problem. Question: what is a good micro dermabrasion cream? I bought the Neutrogena kit and it seemed great but the next day I had a break out, and the next day another one. They were quit large. Is this because of the cream or does doing micro dermabrasion bring all the impurities out? I am afraid to do it again in fear of another breakout. What is a good cream to use?

Answer: Try your favorite moisturizer and a teaspoon of salt or sugar or even finer, baking soda.

Question: Can I get a tattoo after a chemical peel or dermabrasion? I plan on getting a tattoo on my upper back, but have acne and taking a treatment for it to finally go away. I am positive that I have a few scars back there from the acne. I've heard that its hard to tattoo with scars. So i thought about getting a chemical peel or some dermabrasion to remove the scaring and eventually getting the tattoo. Is this a good idea or an extremely stupid one. Answer: Microdermabrasion is not going to get rid of acne scarring...don't waste your money. Chemical peels are pretty much going to deliver the same results unless they are very heavy medical grade and you risk other problems like hypopigmentation. There is far more down time on that than a month to wait for a tattoo. The same with laser resurfacing. Talk to a dermatologist if you really want to consider altering your skin before the tattoo. There is no problem tattooing over acne scars.

Answer: you should be at least 18 o that all the hormonal changes that occur earlier in life are over. the way your skin heals after the microderma session depends on hormones, that's why it's so important.

Technically, you can have a microdermabrasion procedure performed every ten days because the stratum corneum (top dead layer of skin) rejuvenates itself after only a few days. Dermabrasion is a very deep surgical process of removing skin. This is something you definitely don't need or want!
