Question: What is irritant contact dermatitis? I was told by my vet that my dog Brandon, an American Staffordshire Terrier/Rottweiler Mix, has allergic contact dermatitis AND irritant contact dermatitis. That is pretty much all he told me. I don't know if it is a diseased that has to be managed, or something that can be fixed. I would really appreciate some more information. I can't find anything online for dogs, only people.
Answer: Irritant contact dermatitis occurs when chemicals or physical agents damage the surface of the skin faster than the skin is able to repair the damage. The dermatitis or eczema is often well demarcated with a glazed surface but there may be redness, itching, swelling, blistering and scaling of the damaged area. This may be indistinguishable from other types of dermatitis.
Question: Postinflammatory hypopigmentation Nair chemical burn? I had irritant contact dermatitis from a Nair chmical burn on the face and it has caused postinflammatory hypopigmentation "It presents as poorly defined whitening of the skin which is irregular in outline. Often the loss of pigment is partial rather than complete. " Is there anything I can use or do to help get back the pigment in the skin e.g. creams, treatments at dermatologist, prescription drugs etc... I'm so worried that it might be scarred and no longer able to re pigment I've had this for some time first turned out to be a red mark but then loss color in the skin. What are treatments that dermatologists do to fix this and the prices because I don't have much money and it probably won't be covered under OHIP.
Thanks to the people that reply, I'm desperate for solutions!
The burn did not leave dark marks on the skin , it left partial pigment loss that left whitening of the skin in some areas that the Nair product was applied to
Answer: i know an excellent cream for skin burns, surgery scars and also for striae.. its name is Contractubex. you should use this for months depending on the extent of your affected skin, and apply for 4-5 times a day patiently. you can find this from any pharmacy..
i hope you'll get better soon!
Question: Really itchy horse dont know what to do with her.....? i have just sold by pony, a 14.1 black welsh section D mare, 14 yrs old. she has gone somewhere with cattle, and there are allot of flys, but her owner phoned up the other day to say she was really itchy and that she had rubbed a big patch by where her girth goes, we went to see and it looked like the girth had rubbed to advised she got a girth protector for her, but now she has told us that she has lines on her back, about 1 inch long that stand out along her back and they have turned to blisters, she doesn't no what it is and neither do we, she is putting a fly sheet on her every day to try and stop her itching, she has always been a itchy horse but never this bad. i was wondering if it was something to do with the cattle, we are going over tonight to look and see if we can see anything in the Field she is in other than the cattle that could be causing her to itch so much, she was itching on a trailer that was in the Field but that has been fenced off now. does anyone have any other ideas what it could be, we are wondering if it is lice, Irritant Contact Dermatitis,Seborrhea or something like that, is there any supplements we could recommend too? as she is really itchy
thanks
Answer: Could be a lot of things, but first make sure the ones on her back are not Saddle Rubs. I somehow don't think the ones where her girth goes are from flies - it must be from the girth. Did you check the person's tack or did you sell tack that went with pony?
Did you see person saddle pony and ride? I only ask because I have tried in the past to sell one of my horses and even after seeing the person's place and talking extensively to them, I later found out they don't know anything about horses!!!
The person might be saddling the pony wrong (loose girth) which would cause girth rubs, and if the saddle is slipping, that could also cause the saddle rubs. It is really amazing how many people don't know the basics of saddling a horse even after owning lots. If you suspect any of the above, I'd take pony back.
Hope it all works out.
Edit: also check fly sheet (does it fit?) cause that could cause rubs. And if you used to keep pony nice and clean in a stall and the buyer is leaving in pasture, possible the dirt is not being properly cleaned off before they ride. This would be highly irritating to pony's skin.
Question: What could cause an allergic reaction making my daughters face swell and turn bright red? it starts around her mouth and spreads to her entire face. It swells to the point that her lips will crack. We apply ice packs and give benadryl but once it starts there is no stopping it. The swelling lasts around two days and the redness will last a week or more. after about three days, any affected skin will begin to peel like a healing sunburn. We have seen three doctors (including an allergist) they say "Contact Dermatitis" but have no idea what the irritant could be. They say to treat her with hydrocortisone cream and cold compresses. Also, to use vaseline on her lips. Maybe someone has had a similar experience or has heard of one and could give me some clues. My daughter is a nail biter, thus making it nearly impossible to pinpoint what exactly could be going into her mouth. I would appreciate any help i can get. I just can't figure this out.
Answer: The allergist should have done skin testing. This is probably the only way you will find out. She needs to know so she can avoid whatever is doing this to her. The skin test is done by actually injecting a small amount of the suspected allergin under the skin. She may not be thrilled about having this done but it probably should be done.
Question: mother in law is being treated for a yeast infection but...? around October 7th we all went swimming in an overchlorinated hot tub and my sister in law and I both got urinary tract infection's and my mother in law supposedly got a yeast infection. However, she is currently on Diflucan for that and Lorazapam to help her sleep and there is no relief, her symptoms are redness and rawness on the outside of the vagina and it just hurts as well as she has been complaining of abdominal pain she has no discharge and no odor. She is also very exhausted. These meds aren't working and she has contacted several doctors (one who didn't even look) Is there anything else she can try that isn't going to have all these side effects and does anyone think it could be irritant dermatitis? Help!!!
Answer: Have her try Monistat 7 for her yeast infection. It also has a small tube of cream in the box for her to use on the outside of her private areas to help stop the itching.
She still needs to see a doctor for blood and urine culture tests to make sure there is not anything else wrong.
Good Luck :-)
Question: What is "Irritant contact dermatitis"?
Answer: it is very irritating. Really though, I had it and still get it every now and then, something (we have not figured it out yet) I come into contact with during the spring and summer sets it off, and it really reminded me of poison ivy or oak. I had to get a steroid to take care of it.
