Question: Anyone Have Experience With Cardiac Disease in Cats? My 2 yr old cat recently developed an infrequent cough, I brought him to the vet to be checked out. We did bloodwork and some x-rays. The bloodwork showed no significant findings but the x-rays showed a heart that looks like it belongs to a cat 7 times his age. The vet is recommending an ultrasound and an ECG as further screening but wanted to know if anyone has any perience with cardiac disease in cats
Answer: I would get the tests done, they will tell you what part of the heart is enlarged, if the blood is flowing right. These tests will also assist in making sure that the right heart meds are given.
Question: what countries or ethnicities food pyramid would not be recommended for cardiac disease?
i agree with that but not according to our food pyramid.
Answer: Can you clarify?
Question: What are signs and symptoms of someone with Cardiac Disease?
Answer: There are many Cardiac Diseases. You should clearly ask about what disease you want to know. Generally Heart attack is the main disease.
A heart attack is an injury to the heart muscle caused by a loss of blood supply. It usually occurs when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood through a coronary artery — a blood vessel that feeds blood to a part of the heart muscle. Interrupted blood flow to your heart can damage or destroy a part of the heart muscle.
Years ago, a heart attack was often fatal. But today, thanks to better awareness of signs and symptoms and improved treatments, the vast majority of people who have a heart attack survive.
Warning signs and symptoms of a heart attack include:
* Pressure, fullness or a squeezing pain in the center of your chest that lasts for more than a few minutes
* Pain extending beyond your chest to your shoulder, arm, back, or even to your teeth and jaw
* Increasing episodes of chest pain
* Prolonged pain in the upper abdomen
* Shortness of breath
* Sweating
* Impending sense of doom
* Lightheadedness
* Fainting
* Nausea and vomiting
A heart attack can occur anytime — at work or play, while you're resting, or while you're in motion. Some heart attacks strike suddenly, but many people who experience a heart attack have warning signs and symptoms hours, days or weeks in advance. The earliest predictor of an attack may be recurrent chest pain (angina) that's triggered by exertion and relieved by rest. Angina is caused by temporary, insufficient blood flow to the heart. The medical term for insufficient blood flow to the heart is "cardiac ischemia."

Question: Can someone explain how sleep apnea contributes to wt gain, diabetes, and cardiac disease? I have been told that if I do not sleep through the night, snore, feel tired and groggy when I do have to get up that I may have sleep apnea and that it is very dangerous.... I would like more info as I am going to have to convince my husband why we need to invest in a magnetic air sleep system I have been investigating at http://www.mynikken.net/winters Thanks, Fact & Figures would be helpful.
Answer: Sleep apnea is a condition where your airway becomes closed off while you sleep. The lack of oxygen causes you to choke and wake up so you can breathe. The most common cause of sleep apnea is being overweight; With the extra fat around the abdomen and neck, it becomes harder to breath when you are sleeping because when you sleep your breaths become shallower to begin with.
Sleep apnea contributes to weight gain by causing you to lose sleep every night. You are exhausted every day, and eventually this chronic exhaustion causes your metabolism to slow; you don't have enough energy to waste, basically. Also, it will cause you to seek sugars that are high in carbohydrates in hopes of gaining energy. Additionally, the lack of sleep contributes to stress which triggers hormonal changes that lead to weight gain.
So sleep apnea leads to exhaustion which leads to stress which leads to cardiac disease, hypertension weight gain which leads to cardiac disease, hypertension and diabetes (which causes cardiac disease and hypertension) and leads to...worse sleep apnea. Can you see how all these feed off each other?
I wouldn't waste my money on the Nikken system unless you just want a new bed. The Nikken products may be exceedingly comfortable, but sleep apnea has nothing to do with how comfy your bed is.
Your best bet is to talk to a doctor; he can get you in for a sleep study to find out if you have sleep apnea (they watch you sleep and count how many times you stop breathing). If you do have sleep apnea, it is fortunately very treatable. If you already overweight, then dropping some poundage might be all it takes. You may also need a CPAP machine to sleep with at night, which will push oxygen into your lungs and keep your airway open so that you don't wake up choking.
Question: Does allopurinol for gout have affect cardiac disease or cardiac medications? My husband has been on allopurinol for 20+ years. Recently he had 2 heart attacks then coronary bypass surgery. He is now on lisinopril, toprol xl, lipitor and aspirin.
Answer: my husband and son have the Gout uric acid in the blood but now when they have attacts they eat alot of cherries it knocks the gout out. Question: What is the difference between Cardiac Ischemia and Coronary Heart disease? I'm a little confused.
But, isn't ischemian caused by atherosclerosis? When the arteries are narrow they may cause reduced O2 in heart tissue??
Answer: cardiac ischemia is reduced oxygen to the heart muscle, after 20 minutes ischemia can lead to infarct or death of the muscle. CAD or coronary artery disease is atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries or progressive narrowing caused by plaques in the vessel wall. Hope that helps
