Question: I am wondering if there is anyone out there who's baby was born with this on there hand? I have a grandson who is now 4 months old and at birth he was born with a birth mark like on his right hand and we took him to the doctor and was told that he has something called capillary malformation ..please let me know all information on this?
Answer: Sounds like a hemangioma. The capillaries are small blood vessels that run thru out the body, including the skin. Sometimes they can over grow in an area and create discolored bumps on the skin. One on her hand is not likely a health issue, and when she is older can be removed by a plastic surgeon. My concern would be if she develops one elsewhere, like on the liver or on the kidney or some other organ. She should have regular check ups so the doctors can track her for symptoms of this sort of thing occuring elsewhere in the body.
