Question: Why do I always get Aphthous stomatitis? How to prevent it.?
lol its also called canker sores or aphthous ulcers
Answer: sounds like a greek name lol..
Question: Anyone tried Aphthasol (RX) for canker sores (aphthous stomatitis) if so what results did you get? My doctor prescribed lidocaine 2% for the pain over a year ago. However if this new RX is worth it by shortening the outbreaks I'd be all for it. I regularly get these - one that once a month.
I suffer breakouts more than once a month & the doctor has prescribed 2% lidocaine for the pain.
Appreciate the answer... I'm one of those *over the edge* folk... I get them more than 90% & I actually have chunks missing in my tongue.
I need more than the normal things that do work to a certain extent ... I do the alcohol, peroxide, Benedryl, maylox, baking soda, etc....................
I'm one of *those* that live with this nearly daily. Thank you - I just saw there was a new RX APHTHASOL & prayed it was a small answer... One can hope.
Thanks for your help...
Answer: They're usually caused from a bacteria. Try putting rubbing alcohol via a q-tip on them at the first sign you're getting them. The trick is to get them early! It works for me. If you develop them, rinse your mouth with warm water with sea salt (don't use regular salt). Some people have canker sore onset from lemons or other acidic fruits or when they bite or get a cut in their mouth; that usually causes me to get them. Good luck!
Question: How do fellow canker sore sufferers treat their lesions? Here is my own remedy
1- Ok the first step sounds hokey, but I believe you have to be nourish yourself so the first step is to drink alot of water and take a multivitamin.
2- Apply hydrogen peroxide w q-tip to the sore 2-3 times per day letting the sore bubble for 30 seconds then rinsing out.
3- Apply "aphthasol" (prescribed) a few times a day after peroxide.
4- Get plenty of sleep.
I say that this method works and by that I don't solely mean pain reduction, although that is a benefit, but also shortening the duration of the sore from over a week to just a few days.
BTW I do get chronic canker sores ( aphthous stomatitis)
Answer: I feel your pain...literally...I've got one now but it's almost pain free and healing now only after 3 days...
What I do is take lysine 500mg/day to try and prevent them or if you feel 1 about to break out (due to stress or staying up late), I up my dose to 1500mg/day. It has reduced the duration of my canker sores from a week+ to 2-3 days.
Question: *** mouth ulcers advice ***? Hi :)
I have had this anoying & painful mouth ulcers for 2 weeks now.
It's located on/under the tongue and gums.
2 Days ago I went to the Dr. and he diagnosed it as Aphthous Stomatitis. I think it's getting worse. I tried this Oracort E cream but it's hard to target the many aphthas. I also started using mouth washes & WARM (?) salty water. It is not suggested to consume salty food, so how is salty water good? I am not sure if it is helpful since it stings and makes the white sores more noticeable.
What are some good suggestions to help cure this problem?
I am desperate & depressed... also I have read that 2 weeks should have fixed the problem...
Also how do I know its not herpes?
What is the difference between herpes and Aphthas?
I am not in USA so try to give a universal drug.
Thanks for your help

Answer: We recommend salt water rinses because it soothes the areas and promotes healing we've found. They say stay away from salty foods only because it hurts and they are thinking comfort more than anything. If you get these sores frequently there are "herpes-type" medications that you can take that lessen the effects of these sores.
This is from a website: http://www.stevedds.com/toppage2.htm
Debacterol, gives almost immediate relief and speeds healing. It is an acidic agent which chemically cauterizes the ulcer surface, sterilizing it, and covering the painful nerve endings. Only available as an in office treatment, Debacterol is 90 percent effective in giving immediate and lasting pain relief. Avoiding known triggers is helpful, such as using the SLS free toothpastes mentioned above. A healthy diet with vitamin supplementation is recommended. Excellent oral hygiene, including use of antibacterial rinses (Rx chlorhexidine or OTC Listerine), has been shown to reduce frequency of attacks. Reducing stress is important as well. Topical steroid treatments (Kenalog, Lidex gel, Decadron rinses) are quite useful, reducing the pain and duration of the lesions.

Answer: Oh you poor thing! I used to get mouth ulcers a lot, but usually only one at a time. One time I had two and I was dying!
Here are some things I did to help ease the pain and make them go away faster:
Don't eat or drink anything salty, spicy, or acidic -- if you can help it. The acid is especially bad, and it is was caused my mouth ulcers most of the time (I drank a lot of citrus drinks).
The best medicine I ever found for them was called Zilactin-B. It is wondrous! You just dry out the ulcer for a few seconds, then dab on some of the medicine and let it dry. It forms a little band-aid over the ulcer. Medicine on the inside, and a protective covering on the outside. Immediately after I put that on, I would be able to close my mouth and the ulcer wouldn't be bothered by my teeth. The medicine stings a bit when you first put it on, but it is so worth it!!
It will last for hours, plus it is soothing. I always put it on about 5 minutes before I eat so it has a fresh new band-aid on it.
I always read that the mouth ulcers can take 2 weeks to heal (or more), but once I started this regimen, they were gone within a week.
Hope this helps!
