Question: What kind of job is suitable for people with obsessive compulsive disorder? I have obsessive compulsive disorder, and often get fired. what kind of job do you think is suitable for me? If you have obsessive compulsive disorder what kind of job you have?
My symptoms is that I keep on checking things over and over again. For example, I keep on checking the door lock and light switch over and over again to see if it locked properly, so that I get a right feeling that it closed properly.
Answer: People with OCD tend to do extremely well in accounting.
Question: How do I control obsessive compulsive personality disorder in myself? I thought I had obsessive compulsive disorder but it turns out to be OCPD. I expect to much from my girlfriend friends and family and I want it to stop especially for my girlfriend. I know Im putting a lot of stress on her and pushing her away and I want to stop. She has put up with it for 5 months now and I know she loves me for dealing with me. Its going to be hard for me to stop because she doesnt make it easy with some of the things she does but I need to get my problem out of the way so I can rationally deal with our problems. Thank You.
Answer: You need to get help first but also you need to let her know that it is not her and that you can't help yourself and that you're trying. But if you say that to her and you just keep just doing what you're doing people can take so much with out you helping yourself. You have to make a move to show you love them enough to help you. I'm not trying to be mean to you but I am a person with a illness and I to had to go get help to show the one I love that i to loved them. Sometimes loving ourselfs is more love to them then love we give them if you know what I mean so please go get it before you lose something you might look back on and hate yourself for later.
Question: Is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder just an excuse to ritualise every day operations until it ruins your life? Is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder just an excuse to ritualise trivial every day operations and actions until it ruins your life?
Answer: What is your question?
You do not make yourself clear?
You have the answer to "your" question all wrapped up within your one sentence.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a ritual (or rituals) we feel we must perform, be it as "trivial" (to quote yourself) as constantly feeling a compulsion to check, ensure you have actually looked your door.
Once leaving the house, walking away, we feel a desperate need to check over and over again that we have "really" locked the door.
Or, we may feel a desperate need to wash our hands if we touch anything we think may cause us harm.
By that I mean we would wash our hands, dry our hands, then we may touch something, then that need returns again and again and again..
This Compulsion can just go on and on and on..
So yes OCD may involve what you call "trivial" actions, "trivial" needs, involving to every day "operations".
But to those who suffer from this sometimes debilitating disorder, it can take over their lives, causing them to "re-enact their needs (ritual) over and over again..
This disorder can make it impossible for many who suffer to lead a normal life.
So yes, it can ruin our lives..
I do hope that this gives you a little insight to how this dis-order can take over our lives, leaving us little time to carry out everyday tasks.
Could you explain to us why you feel the need to use the word "excuse" within your question?

If you have obsessive compulsive disorder what kind of job you have?
There is many more different kinds of checking rituals that I do which I am too ashamed to say.
Answer: You can try walking dogs, making scrap books for people, fruit baskets, dog houses, bird houses, Sell things on Ebay, Sell Avon or SMC www.smc.com make your own business over the internet, Detailing cars, write books, I would suggest doing things that you feel comfortable doing, it's not really up to us what you can do, its if you can find an employer to work with your disorder. Have you ever thought about filing for SSI or disability and just work from home? Its just a suggestion but if you dont want to do that, and thats totally understandable, just keep at it, keep trying new jobs... you may be suprised and find someone who is willing to work with you. Also, I would suggest (if you arent already) going to a counselor and getting on meds. that can really help.

what kind of job do you think is suitable for me? If you have obsessive compulsive disorder what kind of job you have?
Answer: I'm 33-years-old and have been living with moderate OCD since the 4th grade.
My best advice would be to find a "work-at-home" job where YOU are your own manager.
You might consider the following jobs as well:
1. Trader in the stock market (online from home, i.e.- Fidelity)
2. Online Web News Editor (for your local television station)
3. Website design (online from home)
4. Social worker
5. Broadcast Radio Board Operator / Master Control
Question: I just want to know, is obsessive-compulsive disorder a type of dual disorder? I came across that question about dual disorders and I just became interested in the topic. I think my scary neighbor is obsessive-compulsive but I'm not sure if that counts as a dual disorder. So, is it?
Answer: Yes, obsessive-compulsive disorder is a type of dual disorder. People with OCD are obsessed with being in control and taking charge of things. They are easily upset with the littlest things and are usually paranoid. An example is the character Monica of Friends. She is really obsessed with cleaning and she is easily bothered by a bit of dirt. I've included some site links for you to learn more about OCD.
Question: What kind of job is skill based job and suitable for people with obsessive compulsive disorder? I have obsessive compulsive disorder, and often get fired for checking things many times. what kind of job do you think is suitable for me? If you have obsessive compulsive disorder what your symptoms? what kind of job you have?
I have many different symptoms. I tends to keep on checking things over and over again. For example, I keep on checking the door lock and light switch over and over again to see if it locked properly, so that I get a right feeling that it closed properly.
Answer: I'm a technical writer and I get to pick apart and fix documents all day long. And of course, I have to check, double check, and triple check. It's a great feeling. Sometimes my boss gets mad at me for my other little OCD behaviors, and I remind him that my OCD is the reason I'm so good at my job!
You could also get a job cleaning, or doing some monotonous repetetive task at a factory. Or get a job in an environment so fast-paced you don't have time to obsess.
Retail worked very well for me, especially since I worked at a fairly low volume store. I could organize and reorganize merchandise to my heart's content. I also did well as a direct care worker in a home for people with disabilities.
Good luck!
Question: Is aspergers also tied in with obsessive compulsive disorder? I have Asperger's Syndrome. It says in my IEP for school that I show compulsive behavior. Is Aspergers some how connected with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
Answer: Many individuals with Aspergers tend to display symptoms of OCD and in fact, sometimes get misdiagnosed as OCD when really, they have Asperger's Syndrome. The repetitive things displayed from Aspergers can make someone think you have OCD, when truly, its just the symptoms from Aspergers and not OCD. OCD alone has the need to do things a certain way-- but doesn't display social aspect difficulties in relationships/communication, etc. Though, since you probably display difficulties in social, communication and need to have things in order (don't like change), then you're probably just accurate with an Asperger diagnosis, though if you display need for things to be the same ALONE, then you'd have an OCD diagnosis, though diagnosis can overlap and manifest the same symptoms and at times, if strong enough for a given time frame- then you can meet the criteria for both disorders, but this doesn't necessarily mean you meet both disorders. I'd recommend having your parents request further testing if you have any concerns. Good luck!
Question: Is there a comparison between Obsessive Love Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? Are stalkers suffering from a trait of obsessive love disorder? And what is the difference between obsessive love disorder and nostalgic love? (I know that there is more than one ? here, but after reading about them it seems to me that there is a lot of similarity between the symptoms of nostalgic love, obsessive love disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and emotional dependency. Are we really using a bunch of different terms for the same condition, or are these all diff in some way?
Answer: A disorder is a disorder is a disorder . Even when you substitute 'compulsion' with 'love' it does not mellows down.
A nostalgic love will not stalk a neurotic one will do. Love benefit both partners, and it's not a OCD.
Question: Do i have a severe case of obsessive compulsive disorder? I always fell anxious and tired. I always get feelings that i might have a heart attack, or die. Most of the time I feel massive headaches, and usually I can't sleep. Do i have a severe case of obsessive compulsive disorder?
I also have lots of trouble working, and attempting normal activities. This has been going on for about 6 weeks. Do you think this is normal?
Answer: I suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder and I can tell you there is a lot more to it than that. I seriously doubt you have OCD (seeing as you don't really show the right kind of symptoms), but if you are really worried here is the WebMD page on it:
http://www.webmd.com/anxiety-panic/guide/obsessive-compulsive-disorder
But my bet is on this:
Generalized anxiety disorder - Excessive and unrealistic worry over a period of at least 6 months associated with 3 of the following:
- Restlessness
- Easy fatigue
- Difficulty concentrating
- Irritability or explosive anger
- Muscle tension
- Sleep disturbances
- Personality changes such as becoming less social
If things continue on like this you might want to talk to your doctor. I'm no expert, but I hope I was helpful.
Question: What on earth is obsessive compulsive disorder? I heard an old classmate of mine committed suicide and it was down to "obsessive compulsive disorder". Could somebody please explain to me what it is and what causes it?
to suzanne - isn't OCD supposed to be a psychological disorder anyway? so why would doctors be arguing over whether or not it is?
Answer: Im sorry to hear about your classmate.
I myself am a sufferer of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Its a form of an anxiety disorder and convinces the sufferer that is some rituals are not carried out a negative problem will occur not just necessarily to a family member or loved one.
It can also cause in intrusive thoughts.
where the sufferer can be talking to someone and suddenly an image of the being killed or stabbed will occur in their head, they cant control this, its not that they want to do it it is just a problem the have to deal with themselves.
Hope this helped x
Question: Is any herbal or homeopathic treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD) in India? I am suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD) since about 1994 and on medication(paroxetine) but not enough working and having heavy side effects so i am very very tired reason why i am looking for herbal or homeopathy treatment to resolve this huge problem of my life. These treatments might be available in India.
Please help me. I would be very grateful to your answers.
Well, i live in UK.
Answer: I'm sorry to hear that you have been suffering for so many years, but don't give up hope. I have OCD, have overcome it, and have started a support group for kids with OCD (see ocdkidssacramento Yahoo Group). The road to overcoming your OCD involves Exposure and Response Prevention or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. ERP is the form of treatment for OCD and it works! I am living proof of that. The fact of the matter is that you can't get better on medication alone. In order to get over a behavioral disorder duch as OCD, it is necessary to go through therapy. Not relaxation therapy, but Cognitibe Behavioral Therapy or CBT. www.ocfoudation.org is a great resource for locating qualified OCD therapists across the U.S., but I am aware that OCD-UK has a site with some good resources as well. You need to find a therapist in your area that practices Exposure and Response Prevention, the gold-standard treatment for OCD. If you are unable to find a specialist in your area on the OCF's list online, you can buy a self-help book. One of the best books out there is The OCD Workbook by Bruce M. Hyman and Cherry Pedrick. While therapist-assisted treatment is always preferred, you can be very successful working on your own with a self-help book if you have the proper motivation and support. This will require a lot of work, but it is the only way to get over this obstacle in your life and with motivation and dedication you can do it!

Answer: Talk to a psychologist, not a psychiatrist
Question: How does the biological perspective look at the topic of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder? How does the biological perspective explain obsessive-compulsive disorder?
Answer: There is no biological perspective, except in the mind of some social scientist. Perhaps you meant physiological perspective. Biology is the study of living things, but the physical causes/effects of the disorder are not completely understood, though serotonin is heavily implicated. Of course, a program instituted to counter the symptoms does have effect. This is touted by social scientists as a great miracle; " talk therapy changes neuron connections ", they trumpet. This statement is a banality, as any so thing changes neuron connections; otherwise we would be amnesiacs.
