Question: How many times stronger is injecting a drug rather than injesting it? How many times stronger is injecting a drug rather then eating it?
I'm asking this because I am taking my psychosis medicine orally and I am switching over to injection of the drug.
Answer: If it's injected into a vein, then the drug reaches its maximum concentration immediately and doesn't have to first pass through the stomach, small intestines, and most importantly, the liver and its extensive network of enzymes. Also, almost none of the drug is lost due to this 'first pass' (actual drug term). If it's injected into a muscle or other tissue, then it becomes more complicated. The actual change in the maximum concentration between the two delivery system (IV and oral) depends on the drug and how your body metabolizes it (a branch of medicinal chemistry known as pharmacokinetics).
Question: Does anyone know why your ears ring when injecting a drug? I heard that if that happens it is called death rings. Why does it happen? Please serious answers only. I know drugs are bad so please spare me the lecture. My friend scares me when she tells me this happens to her.
Answer: it is the blood rushing past the ear. the mastoid process is the bony mass behind your ear. it is sort of spongy in it's look. it also butts up against the mengies.
when you take any drug, it affects the blood pressure and heart rate. as the blood flows faster, the carotid artery has an ending/offshoot in the ear.
as the blood runs faster, the carotid vibrates and the mastoid process "magnifies" the sound. also, inside the ear, is the cochlea (coke-lee-ah) which is a fluid filled snail-shaped organ which has delicate hairs in it.
normally the stapes bone strikes the cochlea, which converts the mechanical energy (sound) to a fluid energy, inside the organ of corti.
all of these together, work sort of in reverse when the blood flow increases, therefore, this is one reason why "ringing" occurs.
Question: Where in the heart do you inject adrenaline? (drug use is not a factor in this question)? Basically what i said in the title. I'm curious where in the heart do you inject adrenaline? (drug use is not a factor in this question). How do you feel around to know exactly where to stick the needle?
ilse72, thanks alot for your answer. covers half my question. I'm just one of those... 'what if i need to' ... kind of guys. i'll leave it open hoping someone can tell me how to find the area i would need. again, thanks.
Answer: An intracardiac injection (of epinephrine) is given into the chamber of the left ventricle during a cardiac arrest. This can only be done by someone who has had intensive training as it is not an easy thing to do.
While I have witnessed it being given more times than I can count, I could not begin to tell you how to locate the exact location for inserting the cardiac needle. The precise procedure also was not something that was covered in nursing school.
All you can do is hope that a doctor who has done it will see your question and be able to explain in layman's terms how to do it but I highly doubt anyone could do it based on instructions alone.

Question: What type of illegal drug requires the use of broken light bulbs for inhalation, smoking, etc? My husband and I have a house that we are currently preparing for sale. Our next door neighbors have a relative who has been imprisoned twice for drug use/sale, stealing, forgery .... I think he has been using our house to use drugs, was wondering what type of illegal drug requires the use of broken light bulbs for smoking, or inhaling -- possibly injecting? Have not found any hyperdermic needles, but all of our light bulbs have been removed and broken, and there is a residue in the part not broken. Looks like it has also been heated with a lighter or something. Anybody know?
Thank you very much for your input.
Answer: I think they are using it to heat up cocaine to melt it into crack rocks or something of that nature.
If I were you, I would call the police and don't touch the lightbulbs anymore because it could be crystal meth or something just as dangerous. I wouldn't let this creep get a way with it if I were you because next you know, the guy will be stealing from you to support his habit...
Please take my advice - call the police immediately - do not take this matter lightly because if he is doing the type of drugs I think he is doing, he could become dangerous or start hallucinating and you don't want to deal with that crap.
If he has a record, then his fingerprints will be all over that house including the light casing for the bulbs and you can have him charged with breaking and entering as well as trespassing. I wouldn't get into it with your neighbors because it's their relative and they will probably back him up.
I hope you take this action - I think it's the best way to handle it without a confrontation.
Good luck!!
ADDED NOTE: TO FORESTA : I wouldn't say my answer is "bunk" because I am a former crack addict who has been clean for 7 years who knows how take cocaine and make it into crack so until you have walked a mile in these shoes please refrain from commenting on someone else's ANSWERS. This is why I'm saying that the police should be contacted because it won't stop at using the home as a drug house. Next thing you know, there are others and then if you show up there with prospective house purchasers - do you think they want to buy a "drug house".
I WISH PEOPLE WOULD LOOK AT THE WHOLE PICTURE FROM START TO END BEFORE DISSING SOMEONE ELSE'S ANSWERS. THANK YOU ...
Question: What has been the impact of safe injecting room for intravenous drug users that have been established ? Has this impacted on the amenity of the local community ?
Answer: +
I must admit there are times when questions like this particular one gives me pause, or even shock. The clinics help; but the federal government will not allow pacifyer drugs that will be a halfway towards breaking the drug habbit. Cold turkey is not a safe solution since the drug users became hooked on drugs because they have weak minds and no willpower.
Question: Do heroin users ever inject the drug into the veins in the top of their hands? I believe my sister is using heroin again. She claims that she is no longer using. I see small spots on the top of her hands between her pointer and middle fingers and her hands always look slightly swollen. Does anyone know if heroin users ever inject the drug into the veins in their hands? Maybe similar to receiving an IV before an operation?
Answer: or in your LEFT ear lobe
has to be left
Question: Please tell me the name of a certain injected drug given to patients after surgery for severe nausea? It is not Reglan. It is something much stronger, with a narcotic effect. This is something that when given to alert, energetic people, can turn them into slobbering zombies.
I need to know the name of it, because a relative who had a bad reaction to it is going to be having surgery. i need to be able to tell the hospital staff what it is, so they DON"T give it to her.
Answer: There are several. Compazine,Tigan etc., and a newer one I can't think of the name of. Use to be very expensive and used primarily for chemo patients but the price has come down since it;s become generic
Sounds like compazine. I had a bad reaction to it. IMy body bent backward so only my toes and head touched the bed, my eyes rolled back etc.It is often used in nursing homes to quiet patients.
If there is a way to check her past med chart from that surgery, you could be certain. You are a good friend.BTW you can often tell drugs types by the way the name ends ie compazine, thorazine.(You know the thorazine shuffle) Not always the case but still, I think you may have a comapzine issue here. Make sure in the future she has all medical records notified of her allergy/sensitivity to the drug. If it is compazine (or another) there are usually drugs that are in the same famile but have slightly different name such as Promethazine). Don't tell just one person, I have had to correct nurses and doctors numerous times when they bring me something I am allergic to. Always, ALWAYS ask what drug the nurse is giving you.
Question: Why do people hit their arms before injecting? I was watching a movie last night, the main character was about to inject drug into arm. First he hit his arm a few times there, then pumped his arm a few times. I understand pumping the arm to increase the vein size, but why hit it?
Answer: to make the vein come out
Question: What recreational drug could a person inject right before driving? I know it's a weird question. I'm writing a fictional story and have someone injecting something in their car. A friend pointed out that no one would get in their car, inject something and then drive. I'm sure that might be true for heroin, but is there another recreational drug someone might inject for 'fun' and be able to drive (albeit under the influence) afterward? I mean not totally floating and with eyes rolling back in head like I've seen in the movies when people inject stuff. Thanks.
Answer: cocaine
