Question: writers cramp? hey, well im still at school (yr 10) and yesterday i went to after school detention for 2 hours, because i didnt get my work experience sorted out.....
anyway detention is basically sitting at a desk in a classroom on my own for 2 hours writing out a massive essay, and copying from a textbook, nice hey.
my hand and fingers started aching after about an hour, so i stretched them out etc, but it didnt help that much and it got worse after about an hour, i was writing quiet fast because the teacher said i have to do at least 6 pages of written work in detention :(
at 5.30 the cleaner came in and took my pen to sign me out of detention, i asked if he knew how to stop cramps in my hand and how to stretch them out, but he said just shake them out for a while. i used a biro for the work which was a bit uncomfortable i guess?
any ideas on how to stop cramps or maybe suggest a nice pen to use when writing lots?
kayleigh xx
Answer: NO! This is the problem with Detention, you end up with writers cramp. The only cure, avoid detention at all costs. Best of Luck
Question: Do i have writers cramp/repetitive strain injury? Do i have writers cramp/repetitive strain injury?
i am a sixth former and when writing (especially in exams) my hand often begins to ache. i can no longer write as fast as i once did and can not hold my pen properly. i often change pens several times during exams/lessons and my hand often trembles. last year i had tendonitis in the same hand and couldn't write in exams and for several months.
Answer: Yes - it sounds like it. I'm betting you are rather tense when you take your exams and you are holding onto the pen harder than you need to. You should establish a pattern where you stop every 5 min (or after so many questions) and loosen up your hand for 20 seconds (flex it, shake it, stretch it). That will get the blood flowing again and you will be less likely to have the problem. Oh and by the way ... RELAX
Question: Does it help memorization and understanding to write notes by hand? How can I reduce writers cramp? I have been studying a professional exam and I have been taking notes to cut down on the material. But it takes so long, 3 and 4 and 5 hours at a time and my hand hurts a lot when I do it for more than an hour.
Answer: I certainly used to find that making notes, and then making notes on the notes was a helpful way of revising.
Typing the notes up on my laptop is quite good - but not as good as writing them (for me anyway) - but you could try.
For some people putting the notes on tape or on your iPod works, then you can listen to them in odd moments or on the bus or whatever.
Drawing pictures in the margin works for some people, as does using different colours and highlighters.
It's good if you can talk over the work with someoen else, and test each other on it - that way you are interacting with the material.
Writers cramp is a pain in the .......hand.
Don't grip the pen too tight. Try a gel pen or a soft pencil so that you don't have to press so hard to write.
Put the pen down and stretch your hand in all directions as soon as it starts to cramp. Every page or so, stop: try drawing a picture in the margin or using a highlighter. Anything to break to constant muscle tension from staying in one position.
Hope this helps.

Question: need a bad guys name Please help me i ve got a writers cramp!? in my book that im writing, i need two bad guys names. one is for a scientist and the other is ex military. if you have any ideas for a name please tell me.
Answer: Good suggestions already.
Other ideas----for the scientist, Simon Kraft, and for the ex-military guy, Mac Morgan.
Can't help adding that what you've got is more likely a writer's block than a writer's cramp, unless of course you're writing by hand and then you could indeed have the latter! In any case, good luck with your book.

Answer: Background: Writer's cramp is a form of task-specific focal dystonia. Dystonia is an involuntary, sustained muscle contraction causing twisting movements and abnormal postures; focal dystonia means only one body part is affected. Writer's cramp is the most common dystonia occurring in the setting of repetitive movement disorders. A focal dystonia can sometimes be the first manifestation of a generalized dystonia.
Medical Care:
-Approximately 5% of patients have spontaneous remission, most probably in the first 5 years. However, the majority of these patients have relapses.
-Treatment is generally disappointing.
-Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) delivered to the forearm flexor muscles for a 2-week period has been found to improve symptoms for up to 3 weeks after treatment.
-Behavioral changes may help.
-Biofeedback, hypnotherapy, and relaxation therapy have been tried.
Activity:
-Altering the grip of the pen and/or increasing the diameter of the pen used is the first step in treatment.
-Patients can use a writing device or other means of transcription, such as typing or dictation.
