Question: stroke?????????? my mom had a sever stroke. She is 45 years old. She doesn't smoke, drink, does not have a high blood pressure, high cholestreol, exercises, and maintains a healthy weight. She is always eating healthy. She does suffer from severe arthritis and was taking a celebrex every day. She was also on cynthroid, and methratrexoid. Could her cause of a severe stroke be blamed on her medications?
Answer: yes they could. Also any combination of drugs should be checked to see if there are any synergistic side effects. Sometimes different drugs should not be taken with other drugs. It is very dangerous.
Question: How is a stroke written up in medical language by medical personnel? How is a stroke written up in medical language by medical personnel? Will the chart say "stroke" or will it say "altered mental state?" How will a stroke be written up?
Answer: It can say either one of those things. It can say "cerebrovascular accident" or "ischemic event" or "thrombotic event" Or it could be a transient ischemic event (mini-stroke or TIA)
Usually the altered mental status would be considered a symptom of the problem - the reason for admission, perhaps. Then the medical workup would be done, with CAT scan or MRI of the brain, to try to find the reason for the symptoms. The CVA, stroke or whatever would then be considered the definitive diagnosis, or if none were found, then other workup to find the cause of the altered mental status, like medications, blood pressure problems, lung problems causing hypoxemia, chemistry problems like diabetes or other imbalances, all of which can also cause altered mental status, would be looked at.
Question: How can I change the stroke of multiple vector shapes at once in Photoshop? When I resize my vector art to make it smaller, the problem is that the stroke size stays the same on all my shapes, making it look really bad. I could resize the stroke on each shape, one by one, but is there a way to change the stroke, or any vector effect for that matter, on multiple shapes simultaneously?
Answer: There is in Illustrator. You can use the magic wand in there and it selects all objects with the specific attributes you clicked on.
In PS, I'm not sure. I don't care for the vector capabilities in PS.
If you have Illustrator, you can export the paths to it from PS and edit them from there.
Just a thought
Question: What is the best stroke for a long distance swim? I swam a little less than a mile and I thought switching sides on the side stroke every couple minutes worked really good. What do you think? Plus, what muscles work different strokes when swimming?
Answer: dude, freestyle will kick that a.ss. switch it up a bit and you'll be fine. breast and side stroke are great alternators, since you can switch sides on the side stroke. I usually always start out with freestyle for a few hundred yards then start switching it up a bit until I feel rested and go back to freestyle and then keep the cycle going for the rest of the swim.
Question: How can doctors learn more about stroke patients by studying these impairments? A stroke is caused by a blockage of blood circulation to the brain. As a result, a part of the brain is not getting the needed oxygen. If a person who has a stroke lives, often there are impairments in their motor or sensory neurons. Why does a stroke on the left side of the brain cause impairments to the right side of the body? Doctors often use the patients as models for brain mapping. How can doctors learn more about the brain by studying the impairments shown by these patients?
Answer: In a miracle of development, the right side of your brain actually does control the left side of your body... most fibers cross over.
By studying what gets knocked out ability-wise (like sensation in the back of your hand or the inability to hold back insults) and correlating it with the location of the blockage, you can see which parts of the brain control those functions. This doesn't work for muscles of facial expression around your eyes b/c they are controlled by both hemispheres.
Question: How soon after a mild stroke can a person begin regular and then vigorous physical activity? I haven't been diagnosed with a mild stroke but I had my left arm go numb followed by a very strong headache, nausea and vomiting. I had a cat scan which showed no evidence of a stroke but I figure the writing was on the wall. Before this, I was very physically active and I'm worried about possibly stressing my body too much and causing another if I work out too hard too soon. Any advice?
Answer: Go for it, but maybe not as hard for a while. Generally a mild stroke or the proper word being Transient Ischaeic Attack normal heal themselves with nil side effects. If it was this keeping fit and healthy would do you no harm. If it happens again seek though seek medical attention.
Question: Whats the difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke? Can someone tell me what the difference between a two stroke and a four stoke is? Is there a big difference when buying?
I am wanting to buy one, and do not know what the difference in the 2 stroke and 4 stroke are?
So what kind of bike is better for a beginner to dirt bikes. I am selling my street bike to get two dirt bikes, one for me and one for my girl friend. I posted another question and got some great responses, but am just not sure what to do about the 2 stroke or 4 stroke???
Answer: two strokes have alot of power but a smaller power band, not as much over rev as the newer four strokes.
four strokes produce a smoother power, and the way the honda's 450's ignition is mapped now days and efi, make it the best choice compared with a two stroke.
For trail riding i think you would get more out of a four stroke, as for you girlfriend who i think you said was 5'6 i would recomend a four stroke best bet is a crf250r unless your riding on the road dont get an 250x, it adds alot of unneccesary weight (battery, lights, electric start etc) if she is only a slim build its not worth it. plenty of power there to keep her happy but it is a forging bike at the same time.
Question: What is the name known for the therapy for giving stroke patients proper exercise? I wish to know of the name of the therapy which is offered to stroke patients to exercise their stroked hands and legs.
Answer: basically they receive physiotherapy which can be active or passive depending on the severity of the stroke. It is sometimes also called Neurological Physiotherapy.
Question: What is the differnce between 2 stroke and 4 stroke oil? I know they are intended for different vechiles etc but I wanna know how to tell them apart.
For example if i gave you a glass of each how could you tell that which one is the 2 stroke?
Answer: 2 stroke oil is made to combinded with the fuel.
4 stroke oil is made to be added to oil pan.
both reduce friction & wear .
4 stroke -- pumped through engine
2 stroke--- burned in combustion process - has low ash
additive to reduce carbon buildup on piston & valves
2stroke oil is much thinner than 4 stroke oil -- to put it simple
hope this help.
Question: What kind of motorbike requires more maintenance a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? What kind of motorbike requires more maintenance a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? Also what kind of maintenance do they require?
Answer: I've owned both kinds and depends on what you call maintenance.
4 stroke requires regular servicing, including carbs and valves.
costing upwards of $250.00, (if not heaps more)
2 strokes require regular oil and plug changes, and two stroke top up.
once in a while, a carb balance. you don't have to rebuild, unless you thrash it mercilessly.
with 2 strokes generally running to twin cylinders and smaller capacities, regular running costs are very reasonable.
The costs of an occasional ring change and decoke, or even rebore pales against bi-yearly full services in most 4 strokes, and rebuilds of these bikes cost HEAPs!
in gp racing, costs skyrocketed when they went to 4 strokes.
Also, you dont have to rebuild road going motors, of either kind, after 10-30hrs, unless you are a complete tosser.
By the way I own a 4 stroke, but i do miss the ol' strokers.
Question: What is the advantage of a 2 stroke engine? I used to ride my Dad's old 1972 Kawasaki 750 3 cylinder motorcycle. It was surprisingly quick for it's weight and age. It was a 2 cycle. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a 2 stroke compared to a 4 stroke? Are they more powerful or something? Thanx!
Answer: Are they more powerful or something? Yeah, they are. The advantage of two stroke is that it gives you more power. A 'stroke' in an engine is everytime the piston goes up and down. A "power stroke" is the stroke when the gasoline in the cylinder fires, and produces power, which is transferred (eventually to the wheels). In a "two stroke" engine, every second stroke is a "power stroke" (where the piston is burning gas and making power) and the other stroke is an "exhaust stroke" where the burned up gasses are cleaned from the cylinder. On a "four stroke" bike, every fourth stroke is a "power stroke" and the three other strokes are "exhaust strokes". So a two stroke will be more powerful because it is firing twice as many times as a four stroke. To figure out the power of a two stroke relative to a four stroke, multiply a two stroke engine by 2. So your dad's (incredibly cool because you can't get it anymore and I bet it's fun to ride) 3 cylinder 750 cc 2 stroke, puts out as much power as a 1500 cc 6 cylinder 4 stroke engine. Yeah, that's why it is surprisingly quick!
The big disadvantage, and why you can't really get them anymore is because they pollute. The three other strokes in a four stroke engine are to reduce emissions. Most countries and states in the USA have banned new two stroke bikes. Even in California, two stroke bikes OFFROAD dirtbikes are not allowed to ride certain times of the year (we have the "green sticker" and "red sticker" thing).
The other disadvantage is that on a 2 stroke, you have to mix the oil in the gasoline, and the engine will burn oil. (Another reason they are big polluters.) The newer two strokes have a separate resevoir for oil, and the engine automatically mixes it for you. But a two stroke engine is still designed to burn oil, more than a 4 stroke.
Question: How soon can I stroke a newborn kitten without the mother rejecting her? the kitten is about a week old and my wifes daughter keeps wanting to stroke it. The cat is obviously not happy about he prospect at what point can the kitten be handled without the mothers rejection. six weeks till weaning seems a rather long time to wait.
Answer: My cat had two litters of kittens. My wife and I handled them when they were just born. Matter of fact, when she had her second litter, a cat from her first litter took one of the kittens away and dropped it in the hallway. I found it and took it back to the mother. She didn't reject it. She did reject one of the kittens in her second litter right away and would not feed it or clean it from the beginning. It died after 2 days.
Question: How do you specifically do the butterfly stroke? I mean exactly what to do at what time. Like how to dolphin kick, when you should, when to do the arm stroke (and how), posture, and when to breathe. It won't help saying that I need to practice because this is the hardest stroke because I have absolutely no clue what to do, no matter how many times I see people do it perfectly.
Answer: You do the dolphin kick at all times by basically ducking your head up and down and having your body follow and you can try the arm stoke at a certain interval by making a key hole under the water (a big circle starting at the top of your head under the water with your hands together and pushing out ward toward the sides of your body). For example, when I am doing this stroke I like to do it at 1,2, and 3. You bring your arms above your head on 1, seperate your hands under the water into the circle on 2 and push out on 3. And you basically breath whenever you feel you need to but be sure it is at the end of the stroke when you are pushing out so that you can push yourself out of the water to get a complete breath in. Mix these together and you get the complete stroke. The key to it, whether you want to hear it or not, is practice. It is a very difficult stroke but each time you do it you get better and better and before you know it it will be alot easier. Good luck.
Question: After an ischemic stroke, how long does it usually take for the brain swelling to peak & subside? I am asking this question for the case of a large ischemic stroke in which around 2/3 of the left side of the brain has been impaired. Presumably it takes longer for the brain swelling to subside for a large stroke than a minor stroke.
A follow-up question is, what is the mechanism by which the brain swelling subsides? Does the swelling subside only due to the death of brain cells?
Answer: Hi.
After an ischemic stroke, there are actually two types of brain swelling(aka cerebral edema) that occur.
1. First, there is intracellular edema, which is also called cytotoxic edema. When a brain cell's oxygen supply is interrupted, the cell is no longer able to regulate the concentration of its own electrolytes. As a result, while the cell is dying, water rushes into the cell from extracellular compartments. This event occurs within a few hours (2-3 hrs) after the stroke happens.
2. The second type of edema is called vasogenic edema (aka interstitial edema) and occurs later than cytotoxic edema. In this case, after an ischemic stroke, the blood vessels downstream break down and begin to leak water and proteins into the area of dead brain. These events occur with 6-12 hours and progresses for about 3 days.
When someone has a large stroke, it is the rapid progression of interstitial edema that is potentially lethal. The estimated peak of interstitial edema is about 3 days, but more realistically it is about 3-5 days.
Eventually as the neurons and its supporting cells die off and are replaced with scar tissue, the cytotoxic edema subsides. Also, as the blood vessels repair themselves or either die off, the leakiness of the blood vessels subside as well. Thus, to answer your question, the resolution of swelling is not directly due to the death of neurons, but it is due rather to the decrease of inflammation and the gradual repair of the blood vessels.
Hope I was able to answer your question!
Question: How does acupuncture help a stroke patien's immoblie left arm learn to be mobile again? I have a neighbour who had a stroke 8 months ago. He was admitted to a General hospital and was on western medication. At the same time he also received 2courses of Acupunctre treatment totalling 10 days of treatment.
He stopped the acupuncture treatments when he was asked to take warfarin. Now that he is off Warfarin and is on Cardiprin, can be go for acupuncture?
Answer: I don't know. but if someone kept sticking me with a pin and telling me to move my arm................ I just might get THE POINT.
HAR HAR HAR.
Question: What is the best swimming stroke to tone your whole body? I was wondering if anyone knows the best swimming stroke for whole body toning? I usually do breast stroke... should I continue to do this? I haven't been swimming properly for months and have just started going again. I want to tone up my stomach, bum and legs (thighs in particular) mostly, obviously it will tone my arms and legs anyway... What stroke(s) do you think I should do - I CANNOT do butterfly by the way before you suggest that. Thanks.
Answer: Well different strokes potentionally tone different parts of your body. I would try adding in different strokes, some easier, some harder, such as the freestroke/front crawl, whatever you want to call it. That is one of the toughest ones to continue doing. Also try sidestroke, that might help toning your stomache. I'd research diffrerent strokes on the internet to see what else you can add.
