Question: Need information on which airline has the best Bereavement Rate Policy?? Our daughter's husband got a job in FL last spring. All of our family and his are in UT. They lost their baby to Neonatal Adrenoluekrodystrophy (a peroxisomal disorder on the Zellweger Spectrum... if any of that makes sense....). We need to get them and the baby's body back to Utah for the funeral and burial, as her plot is here and all the families are too. He just graduated from college last March. We recently moved from CA and are paying 2 mortgages... Long story short, we need to find the most affordable way to get everything done. *There will be no insurance money, as no insurance would cover her because of her condition... Thanks for taking the time... as ours is a little chotic at the moment...

Answer: First off, let me begin with saying that Im sorry for the loss and I wish your family my deepest sympathy. Bereavement fares are not always cheaper than the lowest discount fare. Airlines still have them and quote them and will sell them, but sometimes there are still the lowest discounted fares available and are cheaper. Shoot me an e-mail with exact cities and dates of travel if you know them that way you will know what you are looking at if they quote you a higher fare for bereavement. You first should contact the airlines care center, for Delta its Delta Cares. For shipping human remains back from FL to UT is $326.25. If the body is cremated you can carry it onboard with you. By calling DL Cares at 1-800-DL-CARES they will offer you the quote and make all necessary flight arrangements for you. This should be the same with all airlines, call their care center and they will take care of everything so you dont have to worry about finding fares. The funeral home or hospital that has the baby right now will have all the documentation necessary for transit. If the baby will be transported through Cargo, the funeral home will have to bring the baby to the local cargo facility. They know the procedures and I will spare you the explination as Im sure it is hard enough to read this as it is. Again, shoot me an e-mail with your cities and I can help you find the best airline with the most direct route or minimal connections to get everyone back as quickly as possible.
