Probably no connection.
Get your serum para thyroid hormone (parathormone) checked and see a good internist/endocrinologist.
Question: Can you get hypercalcemia through your diet? I may need to be on a soft diet for awhile. I will be eating lots of milk products-e.g. yogurt, mashed potatoes, pudding, ice cream, cheese, Ensure shakes, etc. Do I need to worry about getting hypercalcemia from these things or does the body naturally excrete excess calcium?
Answer: I don't know your reasons for this diet, but you may be interested in some different options. I have had great results with an all natural product called Isagenix.
This product is only available by distributor.

Question: Is anyone familiar with hypercalcemia in cats? My cat was recently diagnosed with hypercalcemia. She is very young and we're in the process of having multiple diagnostic tests done to hopefully rule out lymphosarcoma, parathyroid problems etc. The vet suspects that this will be determined "idiopathic" meaning that they don't know what is causing it. Meanwhile, we're trying everything we can to help lower the calcium- is anyone familiar with this and have any ideas? (we switched her to a high fiber diet already)
Answer: Hypercalcemia is very unusual. I'm assuming you've already done some web searching and know the possiblities? A good site is here: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_hyp… It's critically important in a cat with elevated calcium to make sure they get plenty of fluids. You are trying to dilute the calcium so that the kidneys can flush it from the body. You might want to consider a water fountain. I think idopathic hypercalcemia is a guarded diagnosis, meaning that it's difficult to get it under control and prevent kidney failure. I will hope that they are able to find something to "fix" to enable your cat to live a long and healthy life. Good luck!
Question: Why does hyperthyroidism cause an increase in bone turnover (osteoclast activity) and hypercalcemia? Being as calcitonin is produced in the thyroid gland. PTH is obviously produced in the parathyroid gland and 1,25 DHCC in the liver and kidney.
Have I got something wrong here?
Answer: I don't think the mechanisms are entirely clear. Increased bone turnover has been separately linked to high T3 and low TSH.

Question: What happens to phosphorous when you have hypercalcemia? Is phosphorous the same as phosphate and if it is, what happens to it when calcium goes up/down? In other words, how is it related to calcium?
never mind i figured out it goes down. its an inverse relationship
Answer: You're right. Give yourself 10 points.

Question: What is the reason to administer frusemide for a patient with hypercalcemia after rehydration?
Answer: With hopes to decrease the blood calcium levels, especially the ionic form.
Question: I've been diagnosed with hypercalcemia, how much weight will I lose? I'm already quite thin (91lbs, 5'5") and I'm worried that I will lose too much weight because of the hypercalcemia. My doctor isn't prepared to give me many drugs to stabalize my condition (various allergies and heart problems), so in the mean time, I don't want to lose any weight. I've actually been trying to gain.
How can I do so?
Answer: Do not start eating tons of junk food. Eat a lot of red meats and starchy veggies.
Question: What is the cause of both lytic bone lesions and hypercalcemia?
Answer: Multiple Myeloma
Question: Explain why get weakness in muscles due to hypercalcemia? Why muscles spasm in hypercalcemia?
Answer: The calcium ion pump creates the action potential for your muscles to contract. With too much calcium the pumps create tons of potentials and contract your muscles. I think. It has been a while since I took A&P
