Question: Does anyone know what the prognosis for Mantle Cell Lymphoma is? My sister in law has just been diagnosed and has started her Chemotherapy a few days ago. Any information I can find on the internet is quite negative and says that the prognosis is not good. Does anyone know any different? Is it treatable with a good outcome?
it is stage 1, I think, so they've got it early.
Answer: Type in Hackensack University Medical Center Lymphoma Mantle Cell. My oncologist is a world renouned researcher in the field of Mantle Cell Lymphoma. He has just come up with an FDA approved drug for fighting Mantle Cell.
Question: My mother has mantle cell lymphoma she is getting progressily worse she is not eating how long can she live ? She is still drinking water and is quite thirsty all of the time but she is not eating at all she is 87 and also suffers from congestive heart failure her legs are swellling up and they were weeping but the not eating concerns at the moment
Answer: This question is extremely difficult to answer with the information given. If there is any way you can bring her to a doctor, please do. Swollen legs can be a symptom of many things, including kidney problems.
The reason I ask if you can go see a doctor is that they will have all of her medical history on file. This will tell the doctor things like how long ago she was diagnosed, what type of treatment she has already undergone, and what related complications might be causing her lack of appetite.
I apologize if you already knew all of the above.
If you have absolutely zero chances of seeing a doctor, then the only thing you can do is try to keep her company, I think. She is lucky to have someone like you to take care of her.
Question: My mother has mantle cell lymphoma and her BP is 70/40 she is not eating much she is lucid what is happening? one nurse tells me she has round 3 weeks left and yet another says no one can say, now I know that it is impossible to pinpoint I really need some sort of time span. Her hemoglobin is in the 7's. I just need to be prepared.
Answer: Her hemoglobin is about a half of what it should be. What is her normal BP? The low BP could go hand in hand with her low hemoglobin. She could be hypovolemic. What is her oxygen saturation? I need more information and I hate to guess on this which is what I'm doing- guessing. But you are probably looking at days, not weeks.
My mom had lymphoma and she was lucid right up to the end. She never lost it. But she knew. Whether it was consciously or sub-consciously, she said her goodbyes to us the night before. Our very last words to each other were "I love you".
I am so sorry you are going thru this. Spend every moment with her. My mom has been in Heaven with Jesus for 5 years now. I miss her terribly. Even after 5 years, it still hurts so much it takes my breath away.
If you want, you can email me.
Question: What is the best treatment regimen for Mantle Cell Lymphoma?
Answer: Mantle Cell Lymphoma is a rare kind of aggressive Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Although it usually responds very well to initial chemotherapy treatment (such as CHOP-R), it tends to come back. Would suggest reading the information on Mantle Cell here: http://www.lymphomainfo.net/nhl/types/ma…

Good luck.
Question: My mother is suffering from Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Her white cell count is 198,000 can someone tell me how bad ? She was diagnosed last April her white count was 77.000 now it is 198,000 but I am not sure what that means I would like to know if she could be close to dying. She is 87 and her breathing is very bad but thank God she is not in any pain just very fatigued. I'd really like to know what is happening and if she is going to die soon
Answer: That is a very high white count (normal 5-10,000) and signals the mantle cell lymphoma has "spilled over" into the blood, basically mantle cell leukemia. This is not unusual. If she is able to be treated, most oncologists would treat this, but ultimately treatment in this case will be palliative (not curative). If her health is very poor, her oncologist may not feel the benefits outweigh the risks. Her time may not be that short though as occasionally this disease can behave somewhat indolently and grow very slowly. While her survival could be as short as a month if the disease progressed quickly, it may may be as long as a year as well. Given the near tripling of her white count in 20 months, I would be concerned her disease is gaining steam and may cause more problems soon. PLease discuss this with her oncologist.
Blessings
Question: Mantle cell lymphoma - testamonies please?!? A family member was just diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma and the doctors have chosen what seems to be a very aggressive treatment plan. In hospital chemo for 6 days, home for 3 weeks, and back again. On and off like this for up to 8 months... Anyone had a similar experience, survival rates, anything you know would be more than what I do...
Answer: Here's the best site for info:
http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/hm_lls
I have survived diffuse large B-cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Best wishes to you and your family member.
Question: Has any one out there got NH mantle cell Lymphoma? I have just found out that I have, and start Chemo tomorrow. Is this the begining of the end?
Answer: Hang in there.
Chemo is truly worse than the disease itself.
But, when chemo's gone, the disease is gone too.
I have [had] Diffuse Large B-Cell NHL
Survived it for two years so far.
God Bless you.
Question: My mother just passed away from Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a few weeks before this she started acting strange.? She went out of her mind hallucinating and saying crazy things, does this always happen just can't get that image out of my mind. Anyone have an answer for me.
Answer: Whenever you have something that is breaking down cells in the body, it's like short circuiting something, you never know what is going to happen next. This is an unfortunate thing that we have to experience, but for what it's worth, they don't feel it or know it. I remember I went in to see my grandmother for what I thought was going to be one last time, instead when I got to the door I saw her whipping up and down in her wheelchair while my dad tried to talk to her. I had to walk away, but I also have been left with one image of her in my mind. I think it stays longer because of the impact it has on us, the dramatic things we remember better than the others. Last year my dad passed away, but just before he did when we were all gathered at his bed side he suddenly sat up made a noise and laid back down. Several hours later he passed on. Time helps some, but remembering the good times is even better. As children we end up seeing first hand on our parents things that we wouldn't want anybody else to go through, but so will our children. This is an unfortunate fact of life. But what doesn't break us, makes us stronger. There is some reason in the greater plan that we are the ones to go through this, maybe to comfort others, maybe to make sure we are in contact with ourselves. Good luck and I am sorry for your loss.
Question: I would like to know if any one knows about Mantle cell Lymphoma esp. stage 3 and survival rates?
Answer: Hi. Lymphomas are one of the few types of cancer that chemo really cures--mostly chemo is just a palliative, and it will shrink tumors somewhat. But there's more to the story--
Five hundred years ago, people said the world was flat. Today, people say that if the FDA and AMA haven't blessed something, it can't be real good. Well, here's something I know to be real AND good. It's a little different take on cancer treatment--
In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means:
WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.)
Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body.
It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly.
THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that are currently being used in Europe and around the world, and there are some great books on the subject. I know because I've read about 50 of them from cover to cover. Here's a list of the best ones. Some are out of print and getting hard to find--
"The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825
"The Cure for All Advanced Cancers", ISBN 1890035165
"A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052
"Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701
"Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077
"The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410
"Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966
"Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518
I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems.
You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help.
I am using the things I learned in those books right now to fight off a second infestation of cancer. I've been at it for over a year now, and think I'm going to make it. Use what works for you, and pass on your success. Best of luck.
AMA AND FDA--
The American Medical Association (AMA) and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law and the FDA in this country with heavy lobbying and a revolving door policy. WHY would they want to do this? It's about the money. In 2006, medicine (doctors, hospitals, researchers and pharmaceutical firms) received 2.1 TRILLION dollars--15% of the total earnings (GNP 13.7 trillion) in the U.S. This is astounding! It means MILLIONS of people worked the whole year just to pay the nation's medical expenses!! That's totally astounding, and just too big to care about individuals.

Question: What is the latest on Mantle Cell Lymphoma? Treatments, prognosis etc.?
Answer: Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) accounts for about 5% of all Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. It tends to respond well (50-70%), but relapses frequently/quickly, and survival is generally 3-5 years without stem cell transplant therapy. Most patients currently receive either CHOP-Rituxan or Hyper-CVAD-Rituxan as primary chemotherapy; eligible patients (younger, better health) are frequently taken to autologous stem cell transplant next, usually after receiving CHOP regimen. Hyper-CVAD-R is quite intense therapy, and done without transplant afterwards generally. It can produce response rates >90% and ups 3 year survival to >60%.
There is no standard of care yet; HyperCVAD seems to be the front runner to me (pioneered at MD Anderson). Many of the newer agents, such as bortezimib, are showing great promise in this historically difficult-to-treat disease. The tide seems to be turning...
God bless, best wishes
