Question: What methods do doctors use to test for pelvic inflammatory disease? I talked to two different doctors. The doctor I go to said that she had tested me for pelvic inflammatory disease when doing a pap smear by checking for infections, but when I went to another doctor she said the only way to know if an individual has pelvic inflammatory disease is to have a sonogram. So I was wondering what methods doctors can use to diagnose the disease.
Answer: i know papsmear can be used but have to be cultured so it will takes days for the result. wherein sonogram, you can see right then and there if there is anything wrong..
Question: Can Pelvic Inflammatory Disease be caused from something other than an STD? Can Pelvic Inflammatory Disease be caused from something other than an STD? I was recently told that this may be the cause of the pain I have been living with for the past 6 years. Everything I read about says that PID is caused by an STD. I've been married for 15 years and have only had one partner. I'm confused...
Answer: PID is not always caused by an STD. There is quite a list of other things that could cause it so ask your doctor what the cause might be.
Question: How long does it take for a woman who has chlamydia or gonorrhea to develop pelvic inflammatory disease? How long does it take pelvic inflammatory disease to cause irreversible damage to female reproductive organs (infertility)?
Answer: There is no answer to this because if these STD's are treated promptly and appropriately and they are now gone, PID may never develop. And, people with chronic PID still go on to get pregnant and have children so there is no answer to this.
Question: If I had pelvic inflammatory disease or BV would my gno know? I went to the gynecologist today and she said everything looked normal. I heard BV and Pelvic Inflammatory Disease could go without symptoms. I haven't noticed anything and she said it all looked fine. Does this mean i'm in the clear?
Answer: The swabs they took should check for STDs that would cause PID. As long as the tests come back good you should be ok for now, but many STDs don't show up for years so this is why you must keep doing the yearly checks. As long as you do your yearly checks, you will not likely get a PID. This usually only happens when people fail to go for years with an undiagnosed STD.
Question: Please help me if you know anything about Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and it's symptoms!? I have recently been diagnosed with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and i am currently being treated for it. However, i have these agonising cramping/stabbing pains in my upper abdomen that come and go. Does anyone know if this is associated with PID symptoms? Please help, thanks x.
Answer: Symptoms can range from 0 to intense.
If it is caused by chlamydia the PID might not even show any symptoms at all.
It usually doesn't show up until the infection and swelling have made it's way to the fallopian tubes & the lining of the abdomen.
You usually notice the symptoms more when you have your period and the week after.
The main symptom is pain in your abdomen.
That pain can get worse when you are going number 2, having sex, or going pee.
You can also have other symptoms like:
You may also have one or more other symptoms, including:
A sense of pressure in the pelvis.
Low back pain. Sometimes this pain spreads down one or both legs.
Abnormal discharge—such as yellow-, brown-, or green-colored discharge—or an increased amount of discharge from the vagina.
Fever [usually over 101° (38.33°)].
However, you can have PID without fever.
A vague feeling of body weakness or discomfort (malaise).
Headache.
Nausea or vomiting.
Pain during sex (dyspareunia).
Irregular menstrual bleeding.
Urinary symptoms, such as burning or pain with urination.

Question: Does Pelvic Inflammatory Disease affect a woman's eggs? I may have Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, I find out tomorrow if I do or not. I have several of the symptoms and it's rather worrisome. All my life I've been scared that I'd never know the feeling of being a Mother. If I do have "PID" would doctors be able to extract my eggs? Or would they be damaged?
Answer: Getting it checked out is a good start. The symptoms of PID are sometimes mistaken for things other than... it can range from none to maybe just having abdominal cramps and painful urination, intercourse and I think also menstration. Some people dont notice these symptoms of PID until it is already in the tubes and the peritoneum
PID should be treated right away. It can cause scar tissue and lead to infertility. It can also lead to other problems, like pelvic pain and tubal (ectopic) pregnancy.
Sometimes the infection moves into the fallopian tube and ovary and forms a pocket of pus. If this occurs your chances of getting pregnant are slim.
Good Luck and get some rest tonight. Your doing the right thing of getting checked out.
Question: diagnosed with dehydration but in my chart it says pelvic inflammatory disease? In 2003, I went to the ER and was dianosed with dehydration. I had a strong pain in my pelvic area. I looked up my records because I work at the hospital, and the diagnosis says pelvic inflammatory diease! They never mentioned this to me! What did I really have and what should I do?
Answer: If you are still having pain in the pelvic area I would recommend consulting a gynecologist for another opinion to see what they think could be going on now.
Question: what are my chances of having another baby when I have Pelvic inflammatory disease? I had my IUD for 2 years, and I had to have it taken out about a month ago, because I was having severe stomach pains. The Dr. told me that I have Pelvic inflammatory disease, (not b/c of an STD) he also said I probobly would not be able to have any more children. I am only 21 I have one, and I think sometimes I would like one more some day, does anyone know anything about this??? What are my chances of conceiving after PID?
Why does it make you unable to have children?
Answer: First you need to ask more questions, find out exactly what part was damaged by the PID (fallopian tubes, uterine lining/scar tissue, etc.). Then I would see a reproductive specialist (not an OB/GYN) because they will be able to tell you exactly how they can treat your specific problem. Don't take your doc's word for gold, I have heard from many women (in real life) that were told similiar things and went on to have kids. One of my friends was told her eggs were "bad" (at age 26) and she would need a lot of help getting PG - well she had IVF and got PG with twins on the first try- not only that, but 8 months after giving birth she recently found out she is PG naturally!!! Doctors don't know everything. Do your own research, and seek out the best specialists you can. HTH
Question: How long does it take Pelvic inflammatory disease to cause infertility? I'm talking about the disease that results from Chlyamdia. Do most women that have it have problems with their reproductive organs?
Answer: Is that like somekinda new computer virus?
Question: diagnosed with dehydration but my chart says pelvic inflammatory disease? In 2003, I went to the ER and was dianosed with dehydration. I had a strong pain in my pelvic area. I looked up my records because I work at the hospital, and the diagnosis says pelvic inflammatory diease! They never mentioned this to me! What did I really have and what should I do?
Answer: Make a copy of the report & if you still have symptoms go to your GYN MD.
I'm not sure, but maybe dehydration can cause PID.
There's nothing you can really do if you signed Discharge papers & it happened 5 years ago.
Question: What are the symptoms of pelvic inflammatory disease? Can anyone tell me the symptoms and causes of pelvic inflammatory disease? How long can you have it before any symptoms begin to show? Is bloody discharge a symptom?
Answer: Symptoms:
Fever
Vaginal pain
Abdominal pain
Unusual vaginal discharge
Pain during sexual intercourse
Irregular menstrual bleeding
Pelvic inflammatory disease is often caused by STDs, usually either Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. Though it can also be caused by miscarriages or a coil (birth control device).
Unfortunately you can have it for months without is causing any symptoms. Many woman first begin to suspect something is wrong when they start seeing symptoms. Sadly, this means that the condition is often discovered too late, which increases the risk of infertility, due to scaring of the fallopian tubes.
In answer to your question, sporadic bloody discharge can be a symptom.
I would suggest you consult your doctor as soon as possible.
Question: will pelvic inflammatory disease prevent me from having kids? I went to the doc about 2 months ago and i had pelvic inflammatory disease.they gave me sum med and said it'll go away but it might prevent me from being able to have children....is this true?????????
Answer: they told me this also and yes it is a factor but id treated properly you should be ok and make sure they keep an eye on it,,, I was going to the gyno every three months,,,, I did get pregnant and then it went away and I have been ok since!!
Question: How is Pelvic Inflammatory Disease detected? I was just wondering how PID is detected, can this be detected from a pap smear? Also is it fatal? Do you always have symptoms? I have been trying to conceive w/ my bf for 2 yrs and have BV, I have really bad lower back pain but no other symptoms. I've had a pap smear but not sure if I've had a pelvic exam.
Answer: Pain is a big thing. And yes, symptoms are "required". It won't show on a pap, but the person doing the pap will be able to tell. Not to be gross, there's usually a really bad odor.
Question: I have pelvic inflammatory disease on my left ovary. Is surgery is best way can stop it? I have surgery date coming up for breast lump removal. I have another problem (PID).. Is surgery is the best way can stop the pain and back to normal? I have uterus membrane surgery 3 month ago. I am serving with all these problem at age 20. I have no idea what to do.
Answer: Did they try any other way to help you with the PID. I wouldn't go right with the surgery. I know that PID is a blanket term, but I had it one time, and all they did was give me a shot that hurt like hell and gave me some killer antibiotics for two weeks. They also gave me a pamphlet with stupid ways to avoid it like taking showers instead of baths and not swimming in lakes and oceans.
Question: What are some others ways of getting Pelvic Inflammatory Disease other than STDs? This is rather hard to talk about, but I just recently got diagnosed with P.I.D. The doctor told me its most commonly caused by STDs, but the problem is, I already was tested for STDs not long back, and all was well, so now i'm curious what else could have caused it?
Also, if there are any women here who have had it, what is the likely hood of becoming infertile?
Answer: PID can develop from bacterial vaginosis. That is a drop in the vagina's organisms that are suppost to be there and an increase in the bad ones that are also there. When this happens the organisms spread and cause PID. Since I got PID before I was ever sexually active that is what the doctors told me. The doctors told me after that happened that I would have a very hard, if at all, time getting pregant but I now have two children so I guess they were wrong. Hope this helps
Question: How do you test for pelvic inflammatory disease? I know you would go to the doctor. But how would it be confirmed
Answer: you could find out through the pap smear or even through going to the emergency room. really easy to detect.
