Question: Contraception? How soon after giving birth do you need to start using contraception? Im breastfeeding as well and i've been told this delays ovulation. I don't want another baby yet, but still undecided on long term contraception choice.
Answer: Whenever you have sex it needs to be protected. Breastfeeding is not always fail proof. You can still get pregnant when exclusively breast feeding.
If you dont want another right now, you need to be using condoms until you can use something else.
Question: What forms of contraception can you take underage? If you go to your doctors.
I know you can get the condom but what about the pill, the injection and other forms of contraception?
Answer: you can get most kinds of contraception at any age where you are considering sexual activity and you dont need parental permission at clinics etc as they would rather you be protected then take a chance and get pregnant! even if your parents say no to you the doctor can still give them to you- they will most likely give you the pill rather than an injection etc.
my friend has been on the pill a few years and her mum still doesnt know. i started mine at 15 but you can be younger than that,
Question: What is the best contraception method for someone who can not take birth control pills? I was diagnosed with a liver condition a few months ago. My doctor says that the birth control will damage my liver more. He said that my best choice for contraception would be tubal ligation. This is is not an option for me. I am still young and would like to have at least one more child. Any suggestions?
Answer: First suggestion is to change doctors. Any doctor who will suggest a TL over barrier methods is an IDIOT.
As for methods, you can try a diaphragm, Lea's Shield or a cervical cap. Along with spermicide and periodic abstinence, you should be fairly safe (probably better than 90% efficacy if you have regular cycles).
Alternately (although I don't typically advocate them because of personal issues), you could try a Paragard IUD. It has no hormones, and relies upon the copper that is included in the unit to prevent pregnancy. Efficacy rating is better than 99%.
There is also an intrauterine method called Gynefix, which is actually just a set of copper beads attached to the uterine fundus (top) that works similarly to the copper IUD, but doesn't have a plastic form, so perforation is FAR less likely to happen. It also is less likely to cause severe period symptoms common to Paragard.
Question: What are some forms of contraception for a breastfeeding woman? My wife is pregnant and coming up on her due date. We do not wish to become again until at least 1 year has passed.
What are some forms of contraception we can use while she is breastfeeding? We have a stash of condoms, but that's our last preference. :)
Thanks!
Answer: She can talk to her doctor about the "mini pill" it is for breast feeding moms so it doesn't affect the baby, and it doens't make you all hormonal like normal birth control. Just prevents getting pregnant (well you know, 99.9% of the time).
Other than that you can use condoms, diaphrams, and I think that's it, her doctor will go over a lot of it with you guys at her 6 week post baby appt though :)
Good luck & Congrats!

Question: Where can I find information on contraception/ contraceptives for an anthropology report? I am writing a report comparing contraception in America to contraception in a different culture, one that I still have not decided upon. I am in dire need of sources and information pertaining to contraceptives from an anthropologists standpoint.
If you could please direct me to some sources I would be most grateful. I also need to select a culture for which to compare America to in this manner. With that said, if you have any ideas pertaining to what group of people in which information surrounding contraception would be readily available, please include that as well.
Thanks so much
Answer: Here's a few sites that might be of some interest.
There is an article on contraception in Islam at http://www.sacredchoices.org/family_plan…

Question: What is the best form of contraception besides condoms? First off, thank you for helping, but please save the "Dont have sex" and "use condoms" for someone else. I would just like to know the best form of contraception that doesnt involve condoms, basically a way I can go in bareback, release, and not have a baby. I know of such solutions like BC pills, but Ive also heard of spermicide, and the morning after pill. I would like information on all three, and which would work best. Also I would like to know about the ovulation period and which time the girl is least fertile. Thank you.
So I heard BC pills, how are they supposed to be used? And Ive also heard about the nuva ring or whatever, how is that used? I need times too. And I also heard 5 days after ovulation. Is that the first 5 days afters or I should wait 5 days after? Try to be as specific as possible.
Alright so I heard nuva ring and rythm are the best. When does the nuva ring go in? Before or after sex? And please go into mroe detail about the ryhtm method.
Answer: First off, i have to say that you are being very selfish by trying to put all the responsibilty for birth control on the girl, just so you can go 'bareback' and not have to wear a condom. Only one positive here, is that you are trying to figure out an alternate method of birth control. You just have a bass-ackwards way of doing it! IF 'the girl' (as you say) wants to wear the Nuva-ring, it is something that is inserted up into the vagina, and stays there for about three weeks(or right before sex, she can take it out)...then the female takes it out before her period. The ring time releases hormones, and it works like the pill, except you don't have to remember to swallow a pill everyday! Again, if 'the girl' is not willing to go on ANY sort of birth control for you, it is your responsibilty to suck it up, and wear the damned condom! Besides, birth control messes with the hormones in our bodies, whereas a condom is very temporary.
Question: What woman would pay hundreds of dollars for contraception? Do you think women would pay several hundred dollars, an inconvenient trip to a clinic, shame or other feelings, so she could have an abortion as her "contraception"?
If you believe women use abortion as a "contraception" - what percentage of women (who get abortions) do this?
Answer: I think it is very rare. Most women that don't care enough to use contraception often keep the child.
It seems to be mostly women that use contraception but something happened and they panicked.
Question: How is natural family planning not a form of contraception? How is natural family planning any different then a condom or a birth control pill? Your still preventing a potential baby and your not really giving your complete self away, if you know you probably won't get pregnant. When I watched "Theology of the Body", there main argument was that you should give your complete self during sex as an expression of God's love, and that contraception prevents giving your whole self. How is natural family planning any different?
Answer: It's just a nicer way of packaging the same idea. Don't spend too much time worrying about it; sex is a biological function, nothing more. Let your freak flag fly.
Question: What form of contraception do I use on holiday? I'm 16 and going on holiday at Christmas with my family and my boyfriend's family are going to the same place. I'm obviously gonna have sex with my boyfriend but I'm not sure what to do about contraception. We usually use condoms but Im worried incase something goes wrong because I wouldn't really be able to get the morning after pill on holiday. What should I do?
Answer: get on birth control
and bring the condoms
you can go to planned parenthood or a place like that and get free birth control
but since you are sexually active they will give you a pap smear.
Question: How many times do I have to take the emergency contraception pills? I had an unprotected sex with my boyfriend yesterday. I took the emergency contraception pills immediately. They came in a pack of 2 tablets. But i am not sure whether i need to buy another pack another today.
Answer: Plan B should come with a set of instructions. I've never had to take it, but I do believe that it's okay to take both pills either together or 12 hours apart. It would be wise to contact the pharmacy or clinic that distributed you your pills to clear up any questions that you may have. Good luck! Hoping you're not pregnant :)!
