Question: Natural Breech Delivery V C-Section? I am 34 weeks pregnant with twins, both are breech, my consultant and I have had several discussions about the pros and cons of vaginal delivery versus c-section.
I was wanting to know if anyone has experience of delivering breech babies vaginally, and how other people found having a c-section in comparison to having a vaginal birth.
Thanks.
Answer: hi ive got 19 month old twins and i had a section as twin A was breech..im suprised that your doctor is even talking about letting you deliver naturally as it really is very dangerous to deliver even one twin naturally if they are breech..a breech birth can be very slow and the cord can slip out therefore cutting off the babies oxygen and twin 2 can go into distress very quickly...i wouldnt even try, theres lots of things that could go wrong
Question: Is there any exercise to help the baby position himself properly before delivery and not be in breech?
Answer: my obgyn had told about a position where you get on your head with your butt some how in the air. it didn't sound comfortable so i didn't ask for details on how to do it. but other than that i really don't know. i honestly was glad i ended up having a c-section. i didn't have any complications except for becoming anemic afterwards. i didn't have trouble having sex after as there was no tear down there, the first 2-3 weeks was slow but i bounced back fairly quickly. other than having my daughter, my scar is the only other thing i have to show for it and i'm proud.
please take into consideration for a c-section if your baby is still breech. its not the end of the world and going in prepared can make the outcome and healing process better. the up-side to a planned c-section is having an exact date which your partner can also schedule vacation time around it to help you out. good luck and hope everything goes great for you.
Question: Breech labour and delivery? Is a breech (bum or legs first) labour and delivery always longer than a baby who is cephalic (head down)?
Answer: If a Doctor knows that a baby is breech he will try to turn the baby. If this can not be done then the baby should be delivered via C-section. A vaginal delivery of a breech baby puts the baby at a much higher risk of having problems.
C.J. even in the hands of a professional a breech baby is at much higher risk to have complications. A baby should never be delivered breech if there is another option available!

Question: what do the labor and delivery nurse do during a breech labor?
Answer: they will possibly try to turn the baby or will do a c-section
Question: Has anyone else on here had a breech delivery? naturally and not had a c-section. What was your experience? I had a flood lit room, stirrups, a room full of students with clipboards and a whole lot of yelling from me - so much so that when my baby was born my ears were really ringing!! I was too late for proper pain relief, just gas and air and I actually bit through the mouthpiece as it was so painful! My first birth was so quiet and peaceful in comparisson with bearable pain.
Oh - is it double breech? Never heard that before - how come? Mine was bum first too.
Answer: My sis just had one, at home, suprise breech..baby was head down in the weeks leading up..Her contractions were only about ten secs long..Did you have that too?
Question: Is it normal for baby to be breech position at 20 wk ultrasound? I didn't notice that the nurse marked that the baby was in breech position until I watched the VHS tape last night. They were unable to determine the baby's sex because it's legs were closed. I have to go back in two weeks.
Does this mean that I'll have a C-section? Will baby be breech around Delivery time.
Please Help!!. I want a natural birth. What do I need to do to change this and make the baby move more???
Answer: It is perfectly normal for baby to be breech right now and it doesn't mean you will need a c-section. Babies usually turn between 33-36 weeks to get ready for birth.
Question: now i am 32 weeks pregnanat and my scan shows baby is breech is it correct or i will have early delivery?
Answer: some babies dont turn head down until the last week so you can not go by that right now. its too early
Question: Do breech babies "drop" before delivery? I was just wondering since the "dropping" means that the babies head is dropping into the birth canal and getting ready for birth. Do breech babies drop too?
not turn,, drop down into the birth canal. I mean like he was up high,, and today he's dropped down low but I am not sure he's dropping down into the birth canal.
Answer: I asked the same question :) . I will be 36 weeks Wed and had my appt today and asked my Dr this . She " sometimes ' they do and some don't it's kind of a crap shot. I'm hoping mine turns soon :)
Question: i am at week 37 and my baby is breech , can he turn to normal delivery position?
Answer: An acupuncturist has a technique that is 80% effective. It's called moxibustion. Ask around. It's pretty simple and does not include needles -- non invasive, easy, relaxing and as natural as you can get. With 80% success rate and little to no risk involved (there's always a risk of the cord wrapping around the baby's neck with any kind of version), go for it. Keep in mind some babies need to be born breech. If your baby doesn't turn, find a doctor who will deliver your baby anyway -- they are becoming fewer and fewer but there still are some. Most likely, your birth does not have to be a scheduled or emergency cesarean if you are informed and engaged in making decisions regarding your labor and delivery. Do not buy into the lie that 37 out of 100 women in America cannot deliver their baby naturally. Check out a doctor or midwife that is sensitive (yes, even this late in your pregnancy) to your wishes and desires. Check out all your options and do what you need and want to do. Make yourself informed and do what you need to do to have the birth that you want and that is safe for both you and your baby.
Check out the listed website. Blessings to you and yours.
Question: What are the differences in healing between a vaginal delivery and a c section besides the scar? my doctor has just told me that because my son is breech we are more than likely going to have to have a secduled c section. I was just wondering how different the healing procsss is for a c section, as i have already had a daughter naturally and know exactly what to expect with a vaginal delivery. my doctor has said that my son could still turn.
Answer: The thing to keep in mind about a c-section is that not only are you having a baby, but you are also having a major surgery in the process! It has become so routine that people forget that little factoid.
A planned section is much, MUCH easier (most of the time) than an emergency one. First of all, you'll be well rested going into it, which is very important in your recovery. You'll be awake with spinal anesthetic, so you'll know when your baby is born, you'll be able to hear him cry, see him, and hold him as soon as you get back to the recovery room. You will have a catheter in your bladder and an IV in, and you'll have to lie flat on your back for a short time. Barring any major complications during surgery, your nurse will get you out of bed for your first walk in just a couple of hours. Sometime after you've been up and about for the first time, she'll take your catheter out and start encouraging you to go to the bathroom on your own. After the immediate post-op period, she'll be in to check on your every two hours at least, and to take your vital signs every four hours. You'll be encouraged to turn your self side to side in bed, get up on your own, shower, and learn how to care for yourself and your baby while you're healing. You'll have a clear liquid diet until you're passing gas, and you won't be able to drink any carbonated beverages or drink through a straw.
You most likely will have more pain with your c-section, but there is medication that you can have, and you should take it to control your pain and keep it manageable.
Your vaginal bleeding will be a lot lighter, as the Doc cleans your uterus out while he's got it open. There is still bleeding, but it is far less than with a vaginal delivery.
Things to remember are to move around early and often, walk the halls several times a day, take your pain medication as you need it, and limit your visitors so that you can get plenty of rest in between walks.
Expect it to take a bit longer to heal, and make sure to arrange to have some help at home for the first week or so.
Congratulations on your baby and good luck!
Question: How likely is it my breech baby will turn before delivery? I am 36 weeks pregnant and my baby is in the breech in the head up fetal position, how likely is it that he will turn before delivery?
Answer: will possibly turn, but this website will give you more info on how to get him/her to turn:
http://www.spinningbabies.com/
floating in a pool, good posture and walking can help.
try the yoga cat/cow position. it's really good to stretch achy 3rd trimester backs, get baby to turn and get ready for labor. good luck, mama!
p.s. doing exercises from the doctor will not "kill the baby". someone's baby might have died unfortunately during birth, but it's not from exercises.
Question: Anyone try having a vaginal delivery after a C-section? My first baby was an uplanned C-section. My water broke at 35 weeks and my son was still breech. My doctor said everything looked great for a vaginal delivery except the breech position. So I am thinking ahead for baby #2 and doing a little research.
Answer: I had a vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC) and gained so much support and information from this group. Birth blessings to you.

Question: Can I deliver naturally if the baby is breech? Are there any moms here who have delivered a breech baby? Does it depend on how the baby is sitting?
I am 32 weeks pregnant, and baby is right side up (I have another ultrasound in a few weeks to check). But just planning ahead.
I have had three healthy, normal vaginal deliveries. I don't want to have a c-section.
Previous babies' birth weights:
6 pounds, 1 ounce
8 pounds, 3 ounces
9 pounds, 1 ounce
Answer: Depending on the position. But you will be very hard pressed to find a OB who will deliver, and you may have a bit of difficulty finding a midwife with experience.
Are you planning a home birth? If so, ask your midwife about experience in this. If she does not, you can ask her if she can refer you to a midwife who is experienced in breech births.
If you are planning a hospital birth...well...I would start planning a home birth if I were you..LoL.

* I know of a few women who had wonderful breech home births, one of which had a rather large baby. It is possible!
Question: Does everyone know that Obama believes in partial birth abortions? This is like a breech delivery. The entire infant is delivered except the head. A scissors is jammed into the base of the skull. A tube is inserted into the skull, and the brain is sucked out. The now-dead infant is pulled out. He is quoted as saying,"If my daughter makes a mistake, I don't want her to be punished with a baby." Since when is a baby a punishment?
Answer: I do, and thank God every day that he does. Yay!
Question: After 2 c-seaction is it possible for a vaginal delivery? I have had both my children through c-seations. my hubby and i are trying for our 3rd, we were wondering if it is possible to delivery vaginally? I have a bikini cut i am not sure if this makes a difference or not. I know with our 2nd pregnancy I was going to be allowed to do a vaginal delivery but she was breeched. I am not sure after having two c-seactions if the doctors will let you have v-back or not. Has anyone ever had 2 c-seations and then a vback? Or do u know of anyone who has?
Answer: It's not good on your body to have a vaginal delivery after 1 c-section, so after 2 c-sections it would probably be even more risky. The thing is, they've cut open your stomach twice so using nothing but your stomach to push a baby out isn't a very good thing to do. Ask your doctor though.
Question: Isn't it against medical practice to tell women that breech births must be done by c-section? I recently had two friends have c-sections because their babies were breech. One was done when she went into labor, the other was done two weeks before the due date (so planned). This really worried me because I do NOT want a c-section unless I absolutely HAVE to have one. They told me that if the baby was breech that they were told they had to have a c-section. Now I have done more research and discovered that that isn't the case.
Aren't Doctors obligated to give all the options possible?
P.S. I surfed a lot of sites, but this one had a discussion forum about women and vaginal breech delivery that i found helpful: http://www.mothering.com/discussions/sho…
Coolbeans: I wasn't sure if doctors were legally obligated to provide the option. I have read that it is legal to have it done but many doctors won't provide the option themselves because of malpractice problems, but shouldn't they then legally have to tell you where you can go? Or is that not the case?
Answer: Unless you can find a midwife who will deliver a breech baby, your chances of having a c-section are high if they can't get the baby to turn before labor begins. To do that they will try an external cephalic version(ECV), which doesn't have a very good success rate and from what I've been told by those who've had it done, it hurts like hell even with the anesthesia. The reason for the c-section for breech babies is because the biggest part, and the hardest part to pass through the birth canal is the baby's head. If they deliver the entire body and then have issues with trying to birth the head that can cause major problems for baby....mainly suffocation.
If you do have a breech baby there are alternative ways to get baby to turn. I know that acupressure or acupuncture work. I use acupressure with my prenatal patients to turn baby and to jump start labor as well. Also, maya abdominal massage can do wonders too. There are also homeopathic remedies that work. I used these and the slant board technique when my daughter was breech and it eventually got her in the right direction. There is also the Webster Technique that chiropractors use to help turn babies with success.
If your baby is not breech then do not worry about needing to find ways to deliver a breech baby. Also, if your baby is breech, you could do research on how to get a breech baby to turn before labor, so you can minimize your need for a possible c-section.
