Question: Has anyone here conceived twins using ART (assisted reproduction technology) of any kind? I've always wanted twins and i'm still very young and very capable of getting pregnant without any fertility treatments. However, I really would like to have twins. Has anyone ever used any type of fertility treatment or ART to conceive twins or multiples? I've tried researching the internet and I cannot find anything about this. It mainly just talks about couples that cannot concieve without fertility treatments - nothing about getting treatments because you would really like to have twins. If anyone has experienced this or has a friend who has please share. I'm also interested in hearing about how costly and effective the procedures are and if they are at all painful. I did read in a magazine that Julia Roberts did infact undergo fertility treatments because she wanted multiples.

Answer: Clomid is probably the cheapest ART to use. The incidence of twins is only slightly higher than normal, but that is in women who don't ovulate regularly. It is about $100 per month for the brand name, and much cheaper for off brand (I want to say $25, but I don't remember). I don't know if a doctor would give it to you if you aren't having problems, though, and that goes for all fertility treatments. Clomid has side effects, but they go away. Mostly, they are like really bad PMS symptoms. Other than that, I haven't ever heard of them causing pain. You're going to have to talk to a dr about it because he is going to have to be the one to prescribe or do all the procedures. That is your best bet.
