Question: What are the symptoms of lactose intolerence? ie how does a person with lactose intolerence feel when they drink cows milk
Answer: Gas, upset stomach, diahrea
Question: Is there a difference between a milk allergy and lactose intolerence? how can you tell the difference? Also does either cause a person to gain weight more rapidly?
Answer: Yes, there is a difference. A milk allergy can be more severe. I think that an intolerance is related to the milk ensyme-Lactose. If it is this issue then Lactaid pills will help you digest it. I think also that the symptoms can be similar after you eat dairy. I would research it and talk to a doctor. I put a link to an article below.
Question: Could Lactose intolerence cause coughing and a Pylem build up? My stepdad gets to coughing and a buildup of pylem during sleep he has to spit this out 10 12 times a night .I there a possiblity this could be caused by L I?
Answer: No, lactose intolerance causes indigestion and gas. And it cannot cause coughing and phlegm.
If your step-dad has a chronic cough that doesn't go away for many days or weeks. Then he may have some serious illness such as a TB infection, or lung cancer, or heart failure. And he should go for a medical check-up.
But if he had this cough only for a short time. Then it may be something a lot less serious, such as a common cold that will go away on its own in a few days.
Question: What are symptoms of lactose intolerence? my tummy keeps making funny noises mainly in the mornings and it since i been drinking alot of milk
Answer: Stomach rumbling is a symptom, as is breaking wind a lot more often and I believe breathing difficulties are also a symptom in some cases. Lactose intolerance can vary a fair bit as far as these things are concerned. Do you feel nauseous when you have drank milk and have you been having bowel problems like stomach pain or diarrhoea lately? These are signs that you might have it. I'd suggest going to a doctor about it if you believe you do, he or she can clarify it for you.
It's not so bad though, Soy Milk isn't as bad as people make it out to be :p
Question: My daughter might have a lactose intolerence and has to stop eating dairy products for a month. Is it alright? to eat eggs or not? Thank you in advance.
Answer: She can enjoy lactose free milk and use a lactaid pill for things like pizza or a small serving if Ice cream.
Eggs do not contain any dairy.
Question: Can I build up an intolerence to lactose products? For 20 years, I could drink milk with no problem. But lately, when I drink milk or eat icecream or even eat butter, I end up hurling in pain in the bathroom for hours. Could I build up an intolerence to milk over time?
Answer: The Lactase enzyme sits at the top of the villi at the entrance of the small bowel. If you are lactase deficient - meaning you don't produce that enzyme, you have a few options. 1. You can avoid dairy product all together for about 3 months and allow that enzyme to attempt to reproduce itself. 2. You can take lactase, will which break it down for you, or 3. You can deal with it - and have your consequences.
There is no permanant way to get the full enzyme amount back, you have most likely been lacking that since you were born. Most people with lactose intolerance just deal with it as a way of life.
Question: Do any medications have a side effect of lactose intolerence?
Answer: No. But dairy products can sometimes prevent curtain medications from being broken down and absorbed. Some antibiiotics.
Question: I need to understand alcohol in conjuction with lactose intolerence? ok my GF sarah gets drunk off of milk because she is lactose intolerent or doesnt have lactose or some condition like that. i dont completely understand but i want too. I know that when she drinks milk or eats icecream or consumes any dairy product it goes to her stomach and doesn't digest due to not having lactate to digest it with, it then ferments and releases alcohol into her bloodstream or something like that... Basically thats part 1 i want to know. the other thing i want to know is does she get the unhealthy side effects from getting drunk off ice cream, like for example it shouldnt destroy her liver if the alcohol never has to travel there because it ferments in her stomach (if it does im not completely sure of that ither) and also can she die from eating too much icecream or will she just get REALLY drunk. is it a real drunk or is it psudeo drunk where it emulates all the charactaristics of being drunk without really being drunk. will she get a hangover? plz no stupid answers.
to daniel R: no. shes not feeding me BS and dont insult my gf over the net, you know nothing. dont answer me with something like that i distinctly saw drunkenness and ive been around alot of drunk so i know it when i see it. and to dealerofdistruction: ty for being knowledgable but i dont think thats it because she takes a pill of the enzymes lactate and can then digest lactose and as long as she takes the pills with any dairy products she doesnt get drunk.
ahem *lactase* my bad. lactase is the enzyme not lactate.
Answer: The term you are looking for is Lactic Acidosis. It is a result of high ACID levels in the blood, because the Lactic sugar can NOT be processed by the body. Because of this the oxygen transfer in the body's cell can not occur, therefore they hold the Carbon Monoxide and basically suffocate. She should not be eating anything milk based at all, because it could possibly kill her. This condition has nothing to do at all with alcohol consumption, the process makes a person appear "drunk" while in all actuality the brain cells are suffocating. That is a simple as I can put it.
Question: what causes lactose intolerence and how can it be treated?
Answer: Check into Gluten allergy. It is wheat basically...which is in everything just about..ugh... But if you cut out gluten in your body for a period of time it can help with lactose intolerance. I have seen it with lactose intolerant people.
Question: Is my baby lactose intolerence? My baby is 2 months old and on formula. Her stool is dark green with yellow pieces. I have read that it could be the lactose in the milk, should I change to lactose free formula?
Answer: Talk to your babies dr about it first...dont change his diet on what you read. changing their diet without reason can give them upset tummies for awhile.
Question: Lactose Intolerence? Hello, My 7 mo is still has a lactose intolerence, or so I think. She drinks Soy based formula becuase she can't drink regular one. Now it was time to try little bit of yorgurt and she didn't want to gidest yet, gave it all back in couple of hours. I know after 8 mo or so, babies are supposed to get little servings of dairy. What do I do when she can't have any? What are substitutes? What are resources for me to read on that? I know she might outgrow it or might not. Also dairies are essential for teeth growth. She doesn't have any teeth yet,
Thanks,
Answer: Shes not lactose intollerant (or at least, if she is... it is due to not being exposed to lactose)
She is casein (or cows milk protein) allergic.
You should avoid all dairy (including milk in any cooking, baking, crackers, breads... any of it) for AT LEAST the next 4 months.
Many children outgrow the intollerance, but some don't for a few years. My 15 month old is still intollerant of dairy.
There is calcium in her formula, that is not the reason she doesn't have teeth yet.
Question: what are the signs of lactose intolerence in infants?
Answer: Signs of lactose intolerance in infants include:
wind
pain and swelling in the tummy
irritability
failure to settle
at feeding times, coming on and off the breast
failure to gain weight
diarrhoea.
These signs can also occur if your baby has a food allergy, so you will need to consult a doctor. Lactose intolerance does not cause vomiting but food allergies do.

Question: is it possible to develop lactose intolerance as a teenager? i'm 15 and recently i've been feeling a bit gassy and bloated after eating cheese and other dairy products, and am wondering if i'm developing lactose intolerence? i used to never usuallly feel this way after ingesting milk products, and this feeling seems to have developed over time. i am part asian, white, and maori, so of course i have a very high chance of inheriting the gene. am i developing lactose intolerence?
Answer: I am 18 and am lactose intolerant, and I didn't find out until I was sixteen, until after having the symptoms for a year, so you could definitely have it. You can buy "lactaid pills" to eat with your dairy, and talk to your doctor, too.
Good news, though! Lactose intolerant people can eat yogurt! (Just not the frozen kind...) I was bummed when I couldn't have milk and cheese anymore, not to mention a lot of other food with dairy in them, but there are other products you can substitute with. I recommend Lactaid milk and soy cheese. And for those ice-cream cravings, have sorbet - it's healthier than ice-cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet, and there is no milk in it. : )
Question: Can you get diabetes brom being lactose intolerant? Last year a really bad case of the stomach flu. And all of the sudden i was lactose intolerant. I have been eating dairy products my whole life. I read somewhere that lactose intolerence can lead to diabetes. is this true?
Answer: I've been lactose intolerant since I was 10. It's been twice that many years and I have never showed any signs, nor developed diabetes.
Lactose intolerance is an allergy to milk sugar. Your body rejects the sugar, which is why you get sick. This does NOT mean that your body will reject all sugar although it is possible.
Question: this is a lactose intolerence quesion? if your lactoseintolerent after about all your lif of drining milk could that have messed up my stomach so much that food just runs threw me.
Answer: Yes, unfortunately. Anytime you're constantly challenging your digestive tract like that, it's bound to have repercussions. I say this only from experience. Not lactose intolerance but other food allergies. If you stop with the dairy for good, you're body will start to heal. After 6months you can start integrating a little bit of dairy into your diet. And boy will it taste creamy!
Question: Lactose sensitive and intolerant: does Lactaid work? I have a really super fun :-( case of lactose intolerence and sensitivity. my boyfriends entire family uses lactaid and swear by it. has that been ya'lls experience?
Answer: My Mother is lactose intolerant as well, and she swears by it. She even has the special Lactaid milk you have to shake before you drink.
