Question: Vitamin A in the form of Retinyl Acetate - Can it cause toxicity? I know that Vitamin A in the form of Beta-Carotene is safe, but what about Retinyl Acetate? Especially when taken with Accutane (Isotretinoin)?
(In the multivitamin I'm taking, Vitamin A is in the form of both.)
I'm wondering because I take multivitamin every day in addition to isotretinoin. I remember that the doctor said vitamins are fine, but I'd like to make sure because I've heard someone say that Vitamin A taken with Accutane may increase the possibility of side effects.
Also, does Vitamin A toxicity cause abdominal pain?
Any comment is appreciated!
Answer: Yes
Question: How do you reverse vitamin a toxicity in a bearded dragon? My beardy has been very lethargic since we started using vitamins and after some research we find he may have to much vitamin a. How do I reverse those effects?
Answer: Hmmm, How often have you given it to him? Beardies do need vitamin supplement also if the beardie is young it is more important. Calcium is a must every feeding, vitamins reduce the amount you give him to two times a week. also make sure you are using a uvb bulb with a rating of 10.0 or higher. not much to do if the damage is already done tho.
Question: Can I get vitamin A toxicity from vitamin pills? So, I've started taking centrums to get my daily vitamins, but lately I think I've been getting a little too much beta-carotene. My pretty yellow-orange fingers can attest to it. So, anyway, I know beta-carotene can be flushed out by the kidneys since it's water soluble, but 70% of the vitamin A in the pill is not beta-carotene, which means it's probably retinol or some other variety of fat-soluble Vitamin A. The bottle lists 90% daily value per pill. I'm wondering if I might be getting too much fat soluble vitamin A and if I could get Hypervitaminosis A from taking the pills. I'd rather not have to stop taking them, so if someone could tell me if it's safe or not that would be great.
Answer: The only way you could have a problem is if you do not follow the directions on the label. You should never take more than what the label states. I would suggest talking to a doctor about the yellow-orange fingers.
Question: How long does it take to recover from chronic vitamin a toxicity? I've read that it takes 200-300 days for the body to remove the excess accumulation of vitamin a in the liver, bloodstream, and fat cells. Is this true? My main symptoms include skin dryness/buildup, minimal hair loss, fatigue, and back pain. I've been off any and all vitamins for 180 days now.
(I took around 15,000 iu's of retinol for 1 1/2 years)
Answer: well u probably already damaged your kidneys and liver alot from vitamin a, so ull still have the effects of the damage from the toxcity.
Question: Help! My dogs are suffering from Vitamin A toxicity, how do I help them with the extreme itching? My Ex was feeding my dogs beef liver, and chicken livers on a daily basis, even after being told not to. I have the dogs, they have flaky skin, and are itching. Is there anything that I can give them to help with the itching, and lower the level of Vitamin A in their systems.
Answer: How did you determine that your dogs have Vitamin A toxicity?
If a vet did not determine this with lab tests, I suggest that you take your dogs to a vet to determine what the real cause is for their flaky skin & itching. It could be that you are feeding a corn based dog food, or any number of factors.
Please don't try to treat something if you haven't determined what the true cause of the problem is.
Question: how is a chronic vitamin toxicity treated? will the side effects go away by not taking any vitamin supplements?
Answer: In all cases, treatment of vitamin toxicity requires discontinuing vitamin supplements. Vitamin D toxicity needs additional action to reduce the calcium levels in the bloodstream because it can cause abnormally high levels of plasma calcium (hypercalcemia). Severe hypercalcemia is a medical emergency and may be treated by infusing a solution of 0.9% sodium chloride into the patient's bloodstream. The infusion consists of two to three liters of salt water given over a period of one to two days.
Emergency care for Vitamin A toxicity includes the following:
Supportive care
Hydration if vomiting, diarrhea, or hypercalcemia is present
Oxygen
Monitoring
Stopping vitamin A supplements
The main side effect of vitamin toxicity that may not go away by discontinuing supplements is kidney damage or metastatic calcifications from Vitamin D overdose, which may be irreversible.
Question: can you get vitamin toxicity by taking a vitamin supplement? im talkn abt the " vitol great hair" viyamins whicch have abt 15,000 IU of vitamin A.
Answer: Most people with normal liver function or who are not alcoholics can probably tolerate 15,000 IU of vitamin A daily, but it is close to the dosage of being toxic. Given that people metabolize various compounds at different rates, 15,000 IU may be a problem for some.
The science behind taking megadoses of most vitamins is rather spotty. I've adhered to the adage, "if a little is good, more ain't better!"
Question: how do you heal from Vitamin A Toxicity? I have been taking 30,000 i.u. of vitamin "A" about 4 days a week (recommended by my Mother) for the past 2-3 months and now I have severe side effects.

Question: Identify both deficiency diease and Toxicity symptos for each vitamin. why do you feel this is importan for nr Identify both deficiency diease and Toxicity symptos for each vitamin. why do you feel this is importan for the nurse to know.
Answer: where's the question? well i tell you why this is important to know, if you'v got someone coming in thats is siezuring you ask this persons family "are they taking any pills or supplements" and they answer yes there taking (its been a while since i tried taking nursing classes but i know one of your vitamin/minerals will do this) you can flush the system and save the persons life hopefully! Everything in modiration is what my dev psych teacher use to say, and even things that re so good for you e.g. minerals and vitamins, can become toxic and sometimes fatal if you take to much
Question: Questions about vitamin toxicity? My roommate used to have a really good immune system, but ever since she started taking vitamin supplements, she's been more susceptible to colds & other infections.
1) Does taking multi-vitamins daily somehow depress the immune system? If so, what is the reasoning behind this?
2) What brand of multi-vitamin supplements provides just enough nutrients without the megadoses? She is currently taking Viactiv Complete Women's Formula.
Please help!
Answer: (1) No - if you don't need the vitamins, generally you either don't absorb them in the first place, or you excrete them fairly promptly in your urine.
(2) You should discuss this question with your local pharmacist. The Viactiv should be enough ... and if the doses are mega-doses, she might consider taking it alternate days or maybe once a week.
