Question: I was diagnosed Cushing's disease last year due to a pituitary adenoma, due in for surgery in April... ? I'm scared, the surgery is going to be performed in Mexico using the transphenoidal method, my adenoma is 6 x 5 mm, located on the left side of the gland, the carotide vein, is near the adenoma, what should I expect?
I heard there is an alternative to surgery, by using gamma knife, is it appropiate to be used in my case?
Answer: The surgery is done thru an endoscope which goes up thru the nostrils to a natural passageway. The surgeon can move the instrument down to the pituitary adenoma near the carotid vein & remove the tumor.
You may need to take medication after the surgery.
If you Google "transphenoidal" click on 1st site "Surgery"
They have a video you can watch of the removal of a pituitary adenoma.
You can also google mayo clinic>>diseases>>Cushing's disease
Good luck
Question: What do we do after the endocronoligist refuses to do anything but lab tests to rule out Cushings Disease(son)? My son meets criteria for all symptoms.Lab tests are only 80% reliable.I believe he needs to see a Pituitary Specialist. His pediatrician said we need to rely on the specialist we saw.We are in Indpls.IN.I would like to hear from someone with personal experience with Cushings Disease.
Answer: You listen to the endo. He knows what he is doing. You need the test results.
You are way ahead of yourself. Even if he does have Cushings, the doctor needs to look for the cause. You are jumping straight to the pituitary, when there is no proof that the pituitary is the cause.
If it is, your son will need an oncologist/surgeon.
