Question: Insulin Resistance? I think i have Insulin Resistance because my neck is getting brownish/black. But everytime i rub it when it has water on it, it makes something that looks like little eraser shavings and it gets lighter. Should I keep doing this? Is this sweat build up? Perhaps Dirt?
I dont know if this helps but i am 5'4 and 135 lbs.
Oh yeah! I hardly ever cleaned my neck in the shower either because i never thought it needed cleaning.
Answer: There are WAY more sypmtoms to have IR.
What it sounds like is dead skin. HAve u ever rubbed ur hands together and made the joke about hair appearing, those shavings are rolled up dead skin and dirt. Exfoliating on a regular basis will help solve that... just like if u see someone who has some really darkass elbows... its dead skin, dirt and oil, not scrubbed away enuf that it builds up. Investing in a 1$ puff when u get a body wash ( please dont say u rub a bar of soap directly on ur body and call that washing) And change the puff every 1-2 months. For the discoloration it may be a bacterial skin infection like jock itch.. applying some jock itch or athletes foot cremem will help get rid of that ( just look at the back of the box it says for ringworm too)...

Answer: Insulin resistance is when the cells of your body can't utilise the insulin that you produce. The cells can't take in glucose (sugar) from the foods that you eat to produce energy. (Actually, with insulin resistance, you may actually be producing more insulin than your body would normally use ... it's just that it can't be used.)
If you have insulin resistance you are either pre-diabetic or Type 2 diabetic. Both of these conditions can be treated by a number of different tablets. However, as the condition progresses you may find that you'll need to start injecting insulin as well as take tablets which will allow your cells to utilise the insulin.
Because you are unable to use the sugar (glucose) in your system, much of it will be passed out through your urine. Your body is, in effect, starving and will begin to burn up fat reserves. This may well sound good if your dieting, but the continued presence of sugar in your system has a detrimental effect on your organs, so it's wiser not to use it as a dietary aid.
There are several organs that will be affected by raised blood sugar levels. I won't go into detail as I've no wish to frighten you. Put simply, it's best if you can get your blood sugar levels back to as near 'normal' as possible.
To help the situation you can exercise more which does help the body's cells to absorb more of the sugar that you need for making energy. You can also watch what you eat. Try to steer clear of foods that have a high carbohydrate level. (Carbohydrates are foods that are broken down in your body to make glucose (a simple sugar), which your muscles would normally use to make energy.) Most packaging on foodstuffs is labelled here in the UK. Steer clear of pop (soda) too, as this contains an inordinate amount of sugar.
Do you have another doctor in the practice that you can see instead of the one that you're having difficulty understanding? This is really not a good situation to be in. After all, your doctor's advice is paramount if you have diabetes or pre-diabetes. There are simply too many things that can go wrong if you aren't able to bring your blood sugar levels back under control. If I were you, I'd be asking this doctor to refer you to a dietician. You certainly need to know what foods would be best for you, and which ones to avoid.
I wish you the very best of luck.
Question: Insulin resistance? I had a glucose fasting test done in March and my results were 109..so my Endocrinologist says based on that 1 test that i have insulin resistance and that I need to be on a no carb no sugar diet. I didnt have enough time to ask her what exactly the diet would consist of,because she was too busy and had other patients, her words exactly, she said just read the sides of everything you buy...it still doesnt make sense to me.But I was a huge soda pop drinker which istopped, i am now drinking kool aid , juice, and water..Im not sure what I shouldbe drinking (other then the water). She put me on metformin but it made me so sick i couldnt take it...should more tests be preformed or is one glucose fasting test enough to determine I have insulin resistance? Im so confused
Answer: Army doctors are all alike they are too busy to really do a good job. They have the weight of the base on their shoulders. You can't cut out all sweets and carbs. Koolaid, if it is sweetened is both. I prefer civilian doctors for specialty problems. See if you can get referred to another outside endo or at least a dietician but I don't think your numbers are bad. Insulin resistance usually has higher numbers. Yours was normal.
Question: Metformin for Insulin Resistance in achieving weight loss: How long does it take to work? I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance and have been prescribed 2500 mg metformin daily.
Many ppl with PCOS, metabolic syndrome, or insulin resistance lose weight bc their insulin isnt working properly without the aid of metformin or the like. I have been on it for over a week and have not lost any weight.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced weight loss after a couple weeks, rather than immediately.
Answer: Hello ,
one week is a very very short period for metformin to work , it needs two weeks to reach the maximum effect , and more than 1 month to cause any weight loss ,
The action of metformin is greater when the patient starts a healthy diet simultanously , don't forget that ,
2500 mg is a high dose to start with , and 1000 mg (in two doses ) would be better .

Question: How does insulin resistance affect weight loss? How can I lose weight as an insulin resistant person?
Im 20 years old, 5'4, 218 lbs. Ive already lost 34 lbs but its taken almost a year and a half to do so. I think my insulin resistance is the problem. What do i do?
Answer: You should go to the library and read some of Dr. Nicholas Perricone's books, he talks a lot about weight gain and insulin production.
Question: Can insulin resistance lead to kidney disease? My father was recently diagnosed with Kidney disease/failure and I am wondering if insulin resistance may have played a role in it. I have been diagnosed with pcos, which seems to be caused by insulin resistance.
Does anyone know?
Answer: Yes but it is because he just didnt take care of himself and watch his sugars.
I used to have PECOs and then I did the diet I have on my YA profile , the first link under "about me" and then go to meal plan... it last 11 weeks, but you will never be sick with it again.
Email me if you need help.
Question: What is the best diet and workouts for Insulin Resistance Syndrome? I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance Syndrome when I was younger and have put off doing anything about but now I would like to get healthy (seeing as Im still young) and fix my problems. Answer: Atkins or other low-carb lifestyle.
Question: How can someone who has been diagnosed with insulin resistance lose weight without taking medications? Need to lose weight, but not taking any medications for the insulin resistance. I will start walking again and monitoring my food intake (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) but what else can I do to lose the weight. Currently I am not a diabetic. From my understanding it supposely very hard for someone who is insulin resistance to lose weight.
Answer: Go on a diabetic diet. You can find a book on the subject at the library.
Question: How to get rid of the dark skin on my neck from insulin resistance? I was wondering if I QUIT sugar all together. (Yes I can do this, it's not hard for me) How much will this help my insulin resistance problem? Will it take the darkness away from my neck? I just started running and exercising and eating really healthy this past week. I will continue this forever. But I was wondering if I quit eating sugar all together, will this get rid of the darkness on my neck? & How much will quitting sugar help my body? Also, if you have any tips? Thanks!
Answer: Quitting sugar will help, but primarily you MUST treat the Diabetes. Yes, Insulin Resistance is a form of Diabetes Type 2.
You will need a doctor's help to do this. You may need medications.
But quiting sugar, alone, is not the full answer. You ALSO need to reduce the amount of carbs you eat. Carbs turn into sugar during digestion.
Contact you doctor, and have a physical, including blood work to determine the severity and cause of your diabetes. during your visit ASK the doctor to refer you to a Nutritionist or Dietitian who can help you make better choice in the carb department.
Question: How much weight can I lose in 11 weeks with Insulin Resistance? I'm 5ft 9in and around 230lbs with most of my weight around my midsection due to my insulin resistance.
I want to get to around 200 or size 14, I'm size 16 top around 18/20 bottom. And I'm not sure if I'm setting my sights too high.
Answer: If you just cut out soda from your life that would really help alot and walk 10 to 15 mins a day that for sure will work. To bad i dont do that i need to loose weight to.
