Question: what is this syndrome and what are the symtoms? BILATERAL ADRENAL INFARCTION, HYPOADRENALISM AND SPLINTER HAEMORRHAGES IN THE ‘PRIMARY’ ANTIPHOSPHOLIPID SYNDROME

Answer: Bilateral adrenal infarction means that there is dead tissue in both adrenal glands. The adrenal glands are located above the kidneys and they produce many hormones. Hypoadrenalism means that there is a decreased amount of hormones being produced by the adrenals. This is a result of the infarction. Antiphospholipid syndrome is an autoimmune disorder which causes the blood to clot more than normal. This is probably the cause of the infarction. I'll explain. The clot forms and travels to the arteries that supply the adrenal glands. The clot blocks the blood flow to the gland and without blood the gland tissue starts to die off (infarct). This results in the infarction and the hypoadrenalism. You need to speak to your doctor about this. You will probably require replacement hormones as your body cannot produce them.
