Question: How do I create a drop down menu in CoffeeCup VSD? I'm trying to create a button so that when you mouse over it a drop down menu appears showing subheadings for the page it links to. Is this possible? Can anyone recommend the best simple web design software out there for PCs? Thanks!
Answer: The best way is in Javascript or CSS. Search Javascript menu or CSS menu.
Question: Has anyone known or have VSD and given birth to a healthy baby without any complications during labor? I was born with a heart murmur and lately I've seen three different cardiologist two of which says I'll be fine during labor and one says i should terminate the pregnancy I'm in my 24th week of pregnancy and by all means I'm not killing my unborn baby...... my question is had anyone given birth to a healthy baby and did u have any problems while been in labor? I'm so worry i need reassurance.
Answer: Not from personal experience, but there was a pregnant woman with a (very serious) heart condition on one of the Discovery Health documentaries a while back. If I remember correctly, they were originally under the impression that a C-section would be required, but their doctor informed them that a vaginal birth was actually far less worrisome. To be sure there wasn't too much strain on her heart, she was given extra epidural medication (not sure if it was just a heightened dosage of a regular epidural, since I've never had one LOL, or something slightly different administered as a spinal), and basically told not to do anything. The urge to push was numbed by the medication, as it usually is when a large amount is used, and they simply let the contractions themselves work the baby down and push it out. She did nothing, and her heart rate did not falter throughout the labor and delivery. It was really interesting.
Anyway, all that to say there are definitely ways to ensure a safe delivery of your child, heart murmur or no, and any doctor that would tell you to abort -- especially at this late a stage! -- is obviously not the most reliable or up-to-date. Your best bet would be to consult an OB/GYN who specifically deals with high-risk pregnancies, since he's likely had such a case before (and most high-risk deliveries are far riskier than that to begin with). I'm certain such a doctor could easily address any concerns you may have and quickly ease your fears. ;)
Good luck with the baby!
Question: My 8 year old son is suffering from VSD from by birth? He does not have a connection of the main artery in to Lungs. The blood goes into the lungs through the hole in the heart. Operation is complicated. What else could be done.
Answer: you are not describing a vsd - ventricular septal defect...which is easy to treat...what's he really got?
Question: What are the chances of a person suffering from normal VSD leading a healthy life? Are occational check-ups reccommended??
Answer: If you are referring to ventricular septal defects the chances are very good. VSDs that are significantly large are closed surgically. Some very small ones close spontaneously in infancy. If the leak is very small the chances are it will do no damage to the heart and life will be normal. Routine checkups are a good idea and antibiotic prophylaxis prior to dental and surgical procedures should be considered.
Question: Is there a possibility that small vsd become large as the child grows? My son was diagnosed to have a .27-.33 mm vsd, he is now six months old I'm worried about his condition...
Answer: VSDs normally do not get larger as the child grows. They normally begin to close. If you are worried give his cardiologist a call and schedule a echocardiogram.
Question: What is the difference between an ASD and a VSD? Please be specific.
Answer: An ASD (atrial septal defect) is a defect in the walls of the atria in the heart, while a VSD (ventricular septal defect) is a defect in the walls of the ventricles in the heart.
Question: How can I ease my worries? my six month old son has a G6PD and congenital heart disease (VSD)? I could not stop worrying, I could not sleep well at night because I keep on thinking on his condition? His pedy just said his condition is not just serious but still I could not stop worrying...
Answer:
Hi,
It's tough to know that your son has two conditions, that he will have for the rest of his life. But look, your son is among the lucky ones who have the right diagnosis, among those babies born everyday with no definite diagnosis of their disease...
Talk to the doctor, he must have explained already these two conditions, g6pd babies, as you know, can live normally as long as they avoid food/medications that trigger the symptoms, and that some congenital heart disease patients have mild structural defects (asd, vsd, etc) and are asymptomatic. They can live long lives as long as they take care of their health.
It's normal to worry, its human nature, because i know you love him and want the best for him. You'll do great!
Nevertheless, remember that you have a growing baby boy, and no matter what conditions he may have, you do have one of life's greatest blessings. :)
Question: What are the chances of a moderate VSD closing? My daughter is ten months old and I am scared about her having surgery if it does not close
Answer: That answer is highly individualized, no child is exactly alike, your best and most accurate answer will come from a pediatric cardiologist, if in doubt get a second or third opinion. Having a sick child can be very scary.......and in this case more so...my neice had one also, hers closed up at about a year and a half. Some close fast and some slow
Question: Iam a patient who have undergone a VSD device closure? I 'd like to ask some advices related to my health I am now taking drugs called clopitab after being operated VSD in NOVEMBER 2008.Iam still having chest and back pain.I don't want to do activities which require efforts . Do clopitab have secondary effects,Is it normal to be pregnant when you are taking clopitab
Answer: The complications encountered in transcatheter closure of muscular VSD using an AVSDO are arrythmias occurred during or soon after the procedure. Fortunately all the reported arrhythimias were transient. However, data on this complication after the deployment of devices is still needed because the potential that Nitinol device might interfere with the conduction or other electrophysiologic properties of the ventricular muscles.
In conclusion, the initial experience with transcatheter closure of muscular VSDs in selected patients has been very encouraging with the newly designed AVSDO. All the common types of muscular VSDs can be effectively occluded with this device. If further investigation and follow-up continue to produce similar results, this device may become an important component in the armamentarium of the interventional cardiologist caring for patients with congenital heart disease. Although the results of transcatheter closure of perimembranous VSD with Rashkind double umbrella and Buttoned device seems not so satisfactory, a specially designed new Amplatzer eccentric device has shown hope for transcatheter closure of this category of VSD.
Take care always
Question: what are different methods for treating VSD in newborn babies?
Answer: .......
Question: My 11 day old daughter was born with VSD. She breaths really heavy, should I contact the doctor? Or is it normal to breath little bit heavier knowing that she has VSD ?
Answer: My baby was born with VSD and she didnt breath heavy at all... Why dont you speak to your HV to make sure everythings okay... Its possible that she is breathing normal but you are noticing everything because shes your little newborn, which is totally expected!! Good Luck x
Question: Have you ever heard of VSD heart defect ? My 9 year old son was just diagnosed with ventricular septal defect, have you ever heard of this before? Is this a heart murmur? or is this something differant then a heart murmur but comes with a murmur ?
Also do you know if VSD is a hole in the heart or a leak in the heart ? I am a nervous wreck and cant find much information that I want to on it. If it's not a leak or a hole what is it?
Answer: The two ventricles of the heart normally are seprated by a septum, in some children there is a communication betwen these two chambers this communication is called VSD. It is small if < 0.5 square cm , but > .5 cm moderate to large VSD . The murmur resullt from turbelunce of blood through the defect . some VSDs close spontaneously but some don't .Basicly your child need echocardioraphy and if the cariologist need further studies.
Question: My 2months old baby has VSD of 3.4mm, Do we need any treatment for it and what precaution should i take? Its related to cardiology -VSD Ventricular septal defect.
Answer: usually all that is needed at that age is just follow up with your peds and cardiologist.most of them close spontaneously.usually need a repeat echo at 12 months of age.even at that point I doubt they need any treatment unless child develops a complication.take a look at following I copied it from cardilogy text book.
"Small VSD — Infants who have small VSDs and remain asymptomatic at the three to four week visit usually have follow-up with the cardiologist at eight to ten weeks of age. Those who continue to have a murmur, but are otherwise asymptomatic and growing well should be seen again by the pediatric cardiologist at approximately 12 months of age. In the interim they should be followed at regular intervals by the primary care provider. Infants with small VSDs are expected to remain asymptomatic and to experience possible disappearance of the murmur over time.
If at the 12-month visit with the cardiologist, the murmur is gone, repeat echocardiogram is not necessary, unless clinical concerns arise (ie, endocarditis). However, some physicians opt to obtain an echocardiogram to verify closure. If there is no evidence of a defect on examination or echocardiography, no additional follow-up is necessary [1]. Children in whom closure is associated with aneurysmal tissue should be followed every two to three years to monitor the possible development of obstruction to right ventricular outflow [1]. (See "Pathophysiology and clinical features of isolated ventricular septal defects in infants and children", section on Complications).
If the murmur persists at the 12-month cardiology visit, an echocardiogram is recommended to verify the diagnosis and to evaluate the presence of complicating features. These include development of subaortic stenosis, right ventricular outflow obstruction, or aortic valve abnormalities. (See "Pathophysiology and clinical features of isolated ventricular septal defects in infants and children", section on Complications)."
Question: I had Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) - Can I still become a pilot? Basically, I was born with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). I was told that the holes were healed but i went to doctors today, and he referred me to a cardiologist to get checked out a bit more... What is the chances i will still be able to become a pilot?
Answer: Assymptomatic, small VSD's usually cause no reason to disqualify a private pilot candidate. Air Transport Pilots (ATP's) will need a cardiologist's clearance.
Question: If i have a heart murmmer, VSD, can i still join the Corps? My heart murmmer is small, but it wont allow blood to circulate right and i really want to become a Marine.
Answer: A murmur is a symptom. Not a condition. The condition you have is called Ventral Septal Defect. It's disqualifying, even if you have it surgically repaired. The source below is the medical standard.
Question: 2 yr old with pulmonary atresia ans vsd? Has anyone had any experience with this with there own child, that would like to share some info. We know its a problem with his heart and we are going to bristol hospital soon, but i would love to gear from people with similar experiences. Thanks
Answer: Pulmonary atresia is an extremely rare form of congenital heart disease in which the pulmonary valve does not form properly. The pulmonary valve is a flap-like opening on the right side of the heart that allows blood to move to the lungs.
In pulmonary atresia, a solid sheet of tissue forms where the valve opening should be. Because of this defect, blood from the right side of the heart cannot go to the lungs to pick up oxygen.
A ventricular septal defect is one or more openings in the interventricular septum, producing a shunt between ventricles. Large defects result in a significant left-to-right shunt and produce dyspnea with feeding and poor growth. A loud, harsh, holosystolic murmur at the lower left sternal border is common. Recurrent respiratory infections and heart failure may develop. Diagnosis is by echocardiography. Defects may close spontaneously during infancy or require surgical repair. Endocarditis prophylaxis is recommended.
