Question: can doctors test if heart attack or sudden cardiac death has occurred after the fact? i was having chest pain and suffered from what felt like a serious heart attack, since i have an implanted defibrillator/pacemaker it was ble to revive me before any seious damage happened. My cardiologist says he thinks i just fainted but i have fainted countless times in my life and has never felt this serious. I am scheduled for an echocardiogram in a few weeks will this show if a heart attack or sudden cardiac death happened 2 months after the fact?
Answer: yes i think that doctors can see in the autphsy the doctors can see if the person had a heart attack because of the damage in the heart...hope this helps
Question: how much time does a sudden cardiac death take you off this earth? I know the word sudden is in the name but does that mean 3 minutes?
Answer: The first 30 minutes are crucial. Within this 30 minutes time gap, if somebody could reach you to the hospital, the survival rate will be doubled. From the hospital you will get anti thrombolitic therapy using Streptokynaise injection, which will dissolve the clotted blood from the artery, thus regaining the usual blood supply to the heart muscles.
Question: does Benzodiazepine abuse cause sudden cardiac death? a person who has uses valium and other sleep aids for the last 30 years in addition to drinking about a bottle of red wine everyday. I know this can't be good. so what does this do the body over time? this person is stubborn and I could never get them to stop. They do not look good and I think this is all catching up with them. I do not know much about their current medical history but I have noticed weight loss, and the person is tired alot. I think this person is going to have some trouble soon. any thoughts?
Answer: I have never heard of valium causing sudden cardiac death, but I know it's not a good idea to drink and take tranquilizers. That did kill some people.I think if you are concerned, then maybe get this person to go to the doctor for a check up and find out why he/she is so tired and is losing weight. I have taken benzodiazepine, and never had a problem with it, but all people are different. The best bet is to get a professional opinion.
Question: How common is sudden-cardiac arrest/death in athletic children? How long can they go unattended before dying? If they were to be rushed to the hospital, what would the doctors do in order to try to resuscitate the kid? Can the parent be in the operating/serving room while the child is being treated/resuscitated?
Answer: Children rarely suffer cardiac arrest in of itself. Children almost always suffer cardiac arrest as a result of respiratory arrest unless they have a congenital heart defect. For a child to have a "cardiac" arrest say at a sporting event it would be entirely too late to wait until arrival at an ER to resuscitate, the child would be dead by long before arrival, resuscitation needs to be initiated immediately by emergency medical technicians preferably with a paramedic who can provide electrical and chemical resuscitation. The outcome for such an incident is almost always death, they just are too far gone by the time they are at the cardiac arrest stage.
EMT-Paramedic for 20 years.
Question: question about sudden cardiac death? how likely is sudden cardiac death in a youn man who is not overweight, non-smoker, non-drinker, who has no sign of heart disease and no sign of a heart defect.
Answer: Relax man! You are asking so many questions. Are you seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist? They'll help you more than worrying will. You are obsessing about one particular thing. That is an indication of hypochondria. You need meds and/or therapy. Not more heart tests. :-)
Question: Is "Sudden Cardiac Death" covered under Accidental Death Insurance?
Answer: No. It's not an accident, it's a health issue.
That's why accidental death insurance policies are kind of a waste - MOST people do NOT die in accidents, they die of health issues.
Question: How high is risk of heart attack (sudden cariac death) if basic hearth tests are ok? i heard there is still considerable risk of sudden cardiac death although my EKG/ECG as well as Echocardiogram as well as blood tests (cholestrol levels) look good. ....
...reason being plaque in coronary arteries can be high regardless of good results of above mentioned tests.
is it true? if so, how to early detect such risks ?
Answer: This is one of those statistical things that non-physicians never seem to understand, though it's what we deal with all day every day. The liklihood of any disease is based on the pre-test risks as much as on the test results. If you're older and have symptoms that sound a lot like heart disease, the risk is much higher than if you're young, healthy, and asymptomatic.
There is no perfect test. People have had clean coronary arteries on angiography, the gold-standard test to find out about atherosclerotic plaques, and dropped dead from a heart attack on the way home from the test., and that test in particular isn't exactly a risk-free walk in the park, so you have to have some judgment in these matters and accept that life always carries some risk.
You also have to factor in that some sudden cardiac death is due to rhythm disturbances not directly related to atherosclerotic disease.
Question: Sudden cardiac death in teens? I was reading some where that the rate for this was on the rise. Does anyone know if this is just happening to lazy people who get no exercise and sit around all day?
Answer: It usually happens to athletic kids who were born with a heart defect and had no clue that they even had it.
Question: sudden cardiac death? this occurs only after exertion or emotional stress in sick people right?
Answer: When I was a child, my cousin died of sudden cardiac arrest. He was 28 with no history of any kind of illness. A few years ago a friend died at age 36, He went to the Dr. the day before and was given a clean bill of health. Again, no history of any abnormalities and he was very healthy. A few weeks ago one of my 49 year old co-workers died at her desk. She did have a weight problem, but no history or evidence of heart disease. Below is a web site that can give you all kinds of information.
