The Lown-Ganong-Levine syndrome (LGL) is usually considered in one of the pre-excitation syndromes that include the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW), LGL, and Mahaim-type pre-excitation.
The cause of LGL unlike the other pre-excitation syndromes is unknown. There have been no structural anomalies found in the case of LGL. People who have LGL have episodes of paroxysmal tachycardia (attack of increased heart beats), palpitations, light headedness and shortness of breath, sometimes attacks of faintness (syncope). Usually people with LGL have no other symptom other than the attacks of tachycardia. They are normal at other times. There is no treatment for it unless the tachycardia is affecting their life style. EKG is the way to diagnose it. If they had attacks of syncope, they should not drive.
